Modder ‘xoxor4d’ has released the first version of his RTX Remix Mod for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that adds full ray tracing/path tracing. Below you can also find three videos that showcase these Path Tracing effects. So, go ahead and take a look.
Now I should note that this mod is not based on the RTX Remix Creation Tools that NVIDIA will release on January 22nd. Instead, it’s based on the RTX Remix Runtime that came out in April 2023. In short, this first mod may have various graphical glitches. If I had to guess, I’d also say that the game’s materials haven’t been updated either.
For a “first attempt“, this RTX Remix Mod is kind of cool. And, in some scenes, you can definitely see the visual improvements of path tracing. However, there are also other scenes in which the game looks kind of flat. So yeah, this feels like a mixed bag. It’s cool, but it’s not perfect.
Again, this mod does not represent the quality of the future RTX Remix Mods. Once NVIDIA releases RTX Remix in Open Beta, modders will have access to better tools. With these new tools, they’ll be able to properly adjust a game’s lighting and overhaul its materials. And I can’t wait for these mods.

Speaking of Path Tracing Mods, I also suggest downloading this one for Doom 2. There are also Ray Tracing/Path Tracing Mods for Quake, Half-Life and Serious Sam. These mods are NOT based on the RTX Remix. As such, we highly recommend downloading them as they look incredible.

Back in the day I remember running CoD4 at 140+ FPS. More than a decade later someone decided to find a way to make it run at less than 60 FPS on modern GPU’s that are significantly more powerful than what I had at the time. Well done…
Also, every last one of those videos looks terrible due to the temporal upscaling… I’d rather just dig up my old CoD4 disk and play it with the original graphics.

And what do you think I’m shilling for? What company do you think benefits from my position against raytracing? Microsoft, Intel, and AMD have jumped on that bandwagon along with NVIDIA so everyone is drinking the kool-aide right now. I seriously think that eventually the kool-aide will sour and you’ll see game developers give up on raytracing as they see there aren’t major returns for adopting it.
Ehh I’m not really seeing the issue here. This isn’t activision replacing all existing digital copies of cod4 with a poorly optimized RTX version of the game, but someone experimenting with RTX remix. The more people play around with this tech the better they’ll get at using it, and the better the mods will look and run.
I for one, encourage more of this, such that we get free community-made “remasters” for older titles that only have better graphics with little to no changes to anything else. Much better than those AAA studio “remakes” where they sometimes modify things for the sensibilities of “modern” audiences.

Major “Nintendo hire this man” vibes. So much of this stuff just looks garish and out of place. The reflections mostly look nice but everything else… ehh. I had the same experience playing the Portal remake, a lot of the “remastered” assets just looked strange and out of place. Like why did the red buttons go from a flat scratched up texture to looking like they’re made out of Jello?
it looks so fake , i mean : a realistic lighting (although the amount of ghosting is too distracting ) with lower textures /polygon assets , an uncanny Valley effect for the environments , it’s out of place !
