GlitchStorm feature

GlitchStorm is a new classic arena shooter in Unreal Engine 5

Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament fans, rejoice. GreyArea Games is currently working on a classic arena shooter in Unreal Engine 5, called GlitchStorm.

GlitchStorm targets a 2024 release date, meaning that it’s still in a very early development stage. Still, the following gameplay footage looks promising.

As you’ll see, the game already has most of the major features of an arena shooter. It has almost all the weapons you remember from Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, and its movement and shooting mechanics feel already great.

Moreover, you can also see the benefits of Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen in this game. Even though the game has a lot of placeholder objects and textures, it already looks great. This is mainly to its amazing lighting system.

All in all, this has a lot of potential. So yeah, if you love arena shooters, make sure to keep it in mind. And contrary to other games, this does feel like a classic arena shooter. From what I can see, it doesn’t have any special Heroes or any other modern crap.

Enjoy!

  1. Q1, Q3A and UT fan here:
Ok, lighting and shadowing in UE5 plus clean and grayscale palette, the usual shortcut to great graphics…

But it doesn’t have the right theme, the look or feel don’t convey at all it’s an arena shooter. Bad choice of a theme however you wanna spin it, it doesn’t, and also feels terribly unfinished even if the devs are probably gonna say it’s just the intended look.

Every attempt at the genre since the classics has been pure jank maybe except by LawBreakers (despite it’s failure) by Cliffy B.
