DSOG feature 2

YOU can determine DSOGaming’s Comment Section Policy for 2022-2023 [UPDATE: Results]

And it’s that time of the year again. Today we’re letting you vote and decide for yourselves our Comment Section Policy for 2022 and 2023. This poll will run until Sunday (October 30th) and will end at 21:00 GMT.

Do note that in order to minimize any possible spam or attempt to alter the results, we only accept accounts that have at least 80 comments. Accounts that have been created today or last week are not allowed. Duplicate comments are not allowed. We’ll be also deleting all irrelevant/off-topic comments from this story (so that it’s easier to determine which option has won). You can only vote for one option (if your comment has two options, the first one will be the valid one). Also, if you don’t choose a number, your comment will be deleted. So, and since I’ve seen this in previous polls, don’t start screaming things like “why did you delete my comment” if you haven’t bothered reading this paragraph.

We believe that these requirements/rules will benefit you, our readers. After all, if you cared about our Comment Policy these past years, you will undoubtedly have more than 80 comments, right? Otherwise, what’s the point of voting for something you are not participating in?

This new Comment Section Policy will take effect on October 31st and will last for one year. In 2023 we’ll have a new poll for a new Comment Policy.

Here are all the available choices:

  1. Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers: Our readers can comment on anything they want. They can leave political or racist comments, and they can insult other members (who can defend themselves via the Comment section. Moderators are not required to protect them and they can leave all users to fight each other). Spammers will not be allowed and will be banned, no matter what. Also, comments with spoilers for unreleased games and comments with links to illegal stuff will be deleted (you won’t get banned though. We always had this policy but some of you asked to also include it in the poll, so there you go).
  2. Users can talk about anything other than racist or political stuff. Personal attacks will not be allowed: Our readers can talk about anything as long as it’s not racist or personal attacks. Moderators are free to delete comments THEY feel are racist or personal attacks. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.
  3. Only PC-gaming related stuff: Our readers can talk only about PC gaming stuff. As such, they can’t share off-topic videos (such as music videos), talk about the weather, earthquakes or other disasters (like tsunamis for example), talk about history, or talk about all the other aforementioned categories. In case such a comment passes under the radar, readers can report the comment in order to bring it to our attention. Moderators can also ban users that keep talking about all these topics.

UPDATE:

We had 116 legit voting comments. The option that won this year’s poll was the first option (Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers). Here are the results.

Option #1: 75 votes
Option #2: 39 votes
Option #3: 2 votes

  1. 2. Users can talk about anything other than racist or political stuff. Personal attacks will not be allowed

  2. 1. Unrestrained Policy but with the ability to ban spammers

If someone is feeling threatened because some random people said something bad, they can always block the person.

DSOG is not for snowflakes, we are mature people who honestly identify black as black and white as white. No bullshit, full freedom

  3. #2
Used to be 1 from me every year, But it’s getting pretty bad lately that even when you want to chat about the topic, You need to scroll through all the BS to find someone on topic.

  4. Number 2. I cannot help but feel there’s a lot of resentment of minority groups and aggravation between the people of DSOG, because of this I’ve refrained from engaging with the community.

    1. To quote YOU “^ This is what mental illness looks like.”
Yeah my last name is definitely Jewish. Are all your 16k+ posts this quality?

    2. it’s actually more the “minority” groups are intolerant against any reasonable opinions that they disagree with

  5. #2

I would definitely vote for #1 except that gaming sites have too many emotionally immature people that are starved for attention because they get little attention in real life so they go on this site and cause a disturbance for no reason other than seeking attention.

The 80 comment restriction is meaningless. A person can have 80 comments from commenting on other sites that use Disqus and possibly never have even commented here at all.

    1. So what would you have these emotionally immature people that are starved for attention because they get little attention in real life do instead? Here you have the chance to help such people, but instead you need to feel superior, perhaps due to how real life treats you?

I’m going with option 1, everyone needs a voice and a chance.

    1. And you’re part of the same group that tries to have 4chan removed off the internet too. The better option would be to remove you from this Earth.

        1. Proved what point, exactly? That you censorous pieces of crap talk out of both sides of your mouth? Yeah, I did. Thanks for noticing.

    1. You and all these other fa**ots that desire inclusivity can f*ck off right off this site and out of my hobby. Gatekeeping needs to make a comeback.

    2. regarding these “people” that would “feel welcomed” via option 2 – the question needs to be asked on why they need to avoid or hide any political opinion regarding them that doesn’t pander to them; it’s almost as if they’ve got something to hide or their own political opinions does not stand up to reasonable scrutiny

and we all know what happens when a community needs to enforce a strict speech policy and censor comments to supposedly bring more people in – it quickly becomes an SJW echo chamber who will then make the speech policy even worse

and almost forgot – f**k off

        1. i’m not the mod or admin

and even if i was i wouldn’t ban people

why are you lefists always lying and making things up

  6. As I always did in previous polls, option numba 1, ofc!
This is one of the only places we can have some fun talking to other users, so let the free speech keep flowing and ban the shlt out of spammers!
Snowflakes can go fvck themselves in resetera and such.
And we hate lots of gaymes being made today, that’s the law.

  7. #1. Block button indeed exists. At least we can freely talk how we gonna torrent or emulate the s**t.

P.S. Seems like pathetic OAG losers think they can bury this site or smth. LOL.

  8. #1. Block button indeed exists. At least we can freely talk how we gonna torrent or emulate the s**t.

P.S. Seems like pathetic OAG losers think they can bury this site or smth. LOL.

  9. I’d vote 1, but Latex doesn’t rant here anymore so it doesn’t matter. Can’t wait for another snowflake-sensitive feelings-monitoring curated comment section.

  10. I’d suggest 3.
The comments here are pretty toxic (of course those toxic people are going to be the ones voting.)

  11. Option 2, because lately whatever post I read, some users just responding to threads with racist and political. Even when it does not make no sense. My fave gaming news page and comments are just how ugly women look in games and so on and on. If you don’t like it dont play vote with your wallet I dont need to read this sexsist crap daily.

          1. yes you are allowed but comment about games on a game website ? I think you have a problem understanding about discussing games on a game website. Yes some games add some questionable things to games, but it dosent need to be focused on and you can easily skip these games if they are not for your world view. And you don’t need to stump and bully the persons who belive that its their own choice to sell the product that they belive in. Vote with your wallet.

          2. So I’m allowed to comment about games but I’m not allowed to comment about them? Lay off the drugs.

          3. The question is do you have need to attack people that make games and people that are presented in games. Who really cares about how you or any other commentator feel about any politcal issues represented in games or what is not realistic in a video game or who is ugly women. I just wanna know if game is fun to play or not, what bugs we encountered, what fun stuff we found, what we liked or did not like about gameplay and is story fun. We could ban this unneccesary chat and only discuss games. How hard is that information to recive in you brain ?

          4. So I’m allowed to discuss games as long as it’s in a format that’s acceptable to you? Glad we got this sorted out. Too bad I don’t care whether you approve of the way I discuss the things I care about in games.

          5. Sometimes its not even about the games anymore just trolls attacking everything without any context

          6. the real question is why you are getting so bothered by the people who are calling out the SJW developers and terrible female character designs

i think the answer is obvious

          1. or how about you not read the comments within articles

or you start blocking the commenters that upset you

    1. Because we mostly know where we stand on AAA and corporate gaming and all that’s left to do is trolling.

That said, sadly I don’t visit too often lately, adult life is a pain.

  12. 1 always johnny why is this even a question. U want censoring, go to resetera, but be free. Let us be racist counts to ni**as that deserve it

  13. #1 Watch out for multiples trying to sway the vote, John.

I couldn’t care less about anyone’s feelings, including my own. Plenty of havens out there for you softies.

  14. 1. Even if someone is a racist or annoying, you can always just block them yourself. No need for mods to fret over everything.

  15. Option 1, obviously. Notice how many new accounts are all spamming the other options. They don’t give a sh*t about engaging, they don’t actually use the site. They just want the comment section to turn into literally everywhere else. Piss off back to twitter. This is why the vote system was never a good idea, so vulnerable to being astro-turfed. Looks like this year will be the end of the last free comment section of any gaming site, bummer. It’s been a good run, o7
    John.

  16. #1, of course.

Screw everybody who choose option 2.
Also, I don’t even recognize most of these people, they never comment here.

Edit : seriously, check some of the profiles who say #2. Many of them don’t even comment here. One of them just posted his first comment, another one usually only posts on Destructoid, etc. These people just hate it here and want this website to be changed to suit their agenda.

  17. #1. Block button indeed exists. At least we can freely talk how we gonna torrent or emulate the s**t. Or tell John to stick it with UE5 RTX s**te.

P.S. Seems like pathetic OAG (old angry g4ys) losers think they can bury this site or smth. LOL.

  18. https://media0.giphy.com/media/xTiQyI4ZqiLbb7FgE8/giphy.gif

Option 1, by far. With options 2 and 3 you run the risk of moderator bias that could go on and destroy this website entirely.

For those of you crying about things you don’t like to see, as others here have suggested, just use the block button. Or you all could try growing some thicker skin. Consider it sensitivity training, but the actual good and effective kind where you become stronger, not the crappy kind that’s pushed everywhere which forces everyone to walk on eggshells because some wuss cried about mean words that may or may not have been said.

And if they’re personally attacking you, my suggestion is to not engage at all. I repeat, DO NOT ENGAGE. Downvote if you want, block if you want, and move on. Don’t waste your time trying to have a conversation, because it WILL be a waste of time. That’s exactly what these trolls want.

  19. Option 1. And wow, a lot of new accounts wanting to change the policy, some even with neo n@ze stuff. how strange, shoudn’t they all want the option that allows racism? Not surprised that dummies like @nuktuk1984:disqus fell for the astroturfed “silent majority”.

    1. how strange, shoudn’t they all want the option that allows racism?

ikr? they despise caucasian men after all

      1. Yeah, but John banned Latex without reason, and every year he puts racism for a vote in the hopes people choose more moderation. At least that’s my view

  20. 1
Or have the website owners already become WEF-puppets to push their ESG-rating agenda?

ESG aka push censorship, curb freedom and rights, as a Trojan horse for future Social Credit System?
Bow down to eat ze bugs and own nothing?

If you push censorship you become another 08/15 woke website.

  21. Option two please. Technology and video games are not the place for vile users to share their problematic views, particularly about the Jewish people, DSOG are harboring many anti-semites which will certainly reflect negatively upon your reachability and ad revenue, John.

  22. I don’t feel safe or welcomed by the DSOG community upon witnessing the disturbing content and degenerate racism that lies beneath your articles.

    2

  23. Option 1, as always. I made a comment about this already but it’s got scrubbed somehow. None of the option 2’s even use the site, they are all new names and hopefully this is obvious to you John, as astroturfed BS.

  24. #1

What is the point of coming to DSOG if not for this? To read all those threads of a X mod for a random Y game?

Isn’t almost every website nowadays #2 ? And what is the result of this?

At the end of the day if you want to become more “advertisment friendly” etc you can go for the sell?ut route of #2, but everyone is like this.

#1 all the way. Let the community self moderate, they can block whoever they don’t want. f? the babysitting. Babysitting got us where all the communities are right now.

  25. 2.Users can talk about anything other than racist or political stuff. Personal attacks will not be allowed

  26. #2.

0 natsees has been an will always be my stance.

Just look how much better the site has been without 3xkremen like latex and his minions these last weeks

Also I once again volunteer as mod to ban all natseecel g4rbo from this domain

  27. #2. Free speech never included threats of danger. That’s a basic tenet of the concept.
This site’s comment section is a cesspool.

And wow. The silent majority came out in full force for this one. Kind of surprised but glad to see it. This is the start of a shift towards decency on the website.

    1. Your silent majority are astroturfers, but it was hilarious seeing you upvoting a user named Yids(jews) rape kids.

      1. I believe that account changed it’s name after I voted for it, but yeah, definitely seems like there were a lot of bots.

        1. I can’t check your claim that they changed names midway but your “silent majority” claim that people wants censorship but are too timid to ask for it is bogus nonsense (and not just because option 1 won btw).

  28. #2. I pretty much left this site because of the racism and trash talk, some people needs moderation even though thery’re supposed to be adults

  29. 1.
Jannies cannot be trusted and will inevitably brake 2 and 3 if they are allow in.

Just read the reasons why the ritards vote #2 all closet jannies and drones that can’t help themselves to NOT read some comments on the internet. They will inevitably kill the site or soon brake #2 or #3 if they go into effect.

They even call others “imnature” YET they are the ones that cannot act mature and NOT bother to scroll down, they chose to read the same thing they are complaining about.

  30. Adults vote #1

also, f*ck joggers, feminazis, woke useful idi0ts, commies, bugmen, soy consooooomers, child groomers, troons and most importantly all of the above.

  31. Voting for 2.
I’ve been team 1 for YEARS, but people have been too childish and immature for the last 1 year.
Even now, people eat you up for having the opinion of 2 lol. They are for free speech, but don’t let you have it haha. Just watch the downvotes and the counter comments, that tells you the whole story.

  32. Option 1. If you dont like someone you can block him problem solved.

Newly registered accounts with less than 50 comments should not count. They are FAKE.

  33. john stick with option one. listen these new fake accounts pushing for two, you know who they are. i have never seen them commenting or voting anything but suddenly coming up for this, use your brain.

  34. 1. This site has an entrenched reputation of free speech. You start bending a knee to crowds that haven’t supported you for years on years, and you’re gonna be “just another site”.

    Tread carefully.

  35. 1st as always.

John you should verify if those people even commented before on the site, and how active they are.

  36. #1 for sure. too many bot accounts voting for the other options

edit: every single person who downvoted my comment i have never seen them on here ever.

  37. 2 at minimum.
I assume you want this site to thrive and i enjoy your overall take on videogames, that’s what keeps me coming back… (pc centric, community created content, some slighlty technical news and articles)
But then instead of finding comments further enriching the topic, it’s mostly just an infantile cesspool.
I don’t care about the morals, but it’s just a waste of the site’s appeal and it holds back it’s community potential.

  38. Option 1

Many of the upvotes for those choosing Option 2 are from accounts I’ve never seen here before so it appears as though John’s 80 comment rule is being circumnavigated through underhand means by external forces seeking to influence the outcome.

The vote is being manipulated and corrupted.

To the handful of regular visitors considering switching to voting for Option 2 then I would politely and respectfully comment that no system is 100% perfect in every way. If the comments of a minority of users aren’t to your liking then you have the freedom to block them.

However, if you wish for DSOG to start down the dark path to eventually becoming a hell hole akin to the likes of Resetera, Reddit, Polygon and PC Gamer then voting for Option 2 will initiate that process. Please think very carefully because the road to hell is littered with good intentions.

    1. Chill Bub, we won’t let them. Next year will be the same, users here want liberty, although it comes with the racists and trolls.

  39. Option 1

As much as I hate some of you on here. There is a block button or I just don’t read/engage with you.

As for the fake accounts: They come out whenever there is a raffle or voting time.

  40. BIG #1 vote here. No contest, anyone can block anyone they don’t like. Staff should not take these actions for us.

  41. Number #1, Jon. Please do not let DSOG turn into another effeminate, tampon-filled, woke dump like every other gaming site.

  42. yep all these leftist bots trying to rig this election since they lost the last 2. free speech always ends in a loss for them

  43. Typical bullsh*t from the incel king. You’re pathetic and so are the rancid c*nts that you allow to fester here. Pr*ck.

    1. Most of us don’t take kindly to feminazis and troons, so I don’t see many rancid c*nts around here. That’s reserved for your “inclusive” sites you need to crawl back to.

    1. As I’ve specifically written, during the voting period I’d be deleting all off-topic comments. So yeah, I was deleting your previous comments. Now that the vote is over, you can comment whatever you want to.

      1. If you don’t want people to comment and discuss regarding the choice then why not make a strawpoll instead of counting one by one?

        1. The problem with strawpoll is that anyone can vote, so like the hardcore brigading that was happening in the comments section here by the wccftard users, that poll would be heavily skewed by snowflakes and NPCs that barely visit or participate DSOG.

  44. Noticed how many wccfkek users have participated in the voting and wanted option 2?
This is what censorship does to people’s brain!
2 years ago, before wccfkeks great cleansing, they loved having option 1, now with their jannies removing comments like “idiot”, they’re started to adapt that “censorship is okay” mentality.

  45. You guys have literally any other site on the internet, if you want to be a snowflake, simply switch and go there.
