NVIDIA has announced Doom Eternal RTX, an update for Doom Eternal that will add support for both Ray Tracing and DLSS. Although NVIDIA has not provided any additional details, from what we can see, this RTX patch will implement ray-traced reflections.
Unfortunately, this patch will not add any ray-traced global illumination, ray-traced ambient occlusion or ray-traced shadows effects. Or at least that’s what the comparison video hints at. And, to be honest, these new reflections are not what most PC gamers were expecting from Doom Eternal RTX.
In order to showcase Doom Eternal RTX, NVIDIA shared a video showing the first gameplay footage from it. In order to capture this footage, NVIDIA used an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080Ti. The game was running in 4K (I’m assuming it was also using DLSS) and the RTX3080Ti was able to push between 75fps and 110fps.
There is currently no ETA on when the Doom Eternal RTX Patch will become available. NVIDIA stated that Doom Eternal RTX Patch will release in June 2021.
Enjoy!

Doom Eternal with RTX reflections looks good but still there is a room for improvement after they migrate game to DX12 Ultimate. With more modern API they have access to additional new features like machine learning, VRS Tier2, mesh shaders, sampler feedback and more.
Can’t wait for true next-gen Doom or Quake created in DX12 Ultimate on future ID Tech 8. Now when MS acquired ID Software they have unlimited access to DirectX source code
dry yer eyes. no one is forcing you to use it!
“The game was running in 4K (I’m assuming it was also using DLSS) and the RTX3080Ti was able to push between 75fps and 110fps.”
It says right there in the entire footage, at the performance metrics DLSS: Off
DLSS 2.0 creates garbage quality graphics IN MOTION, no thanks. RayTracing is not worth the performance hit. Just play max graphics without RayTracing at 4K 144FPS.
Do you have any examples because I cant tell the difference except in Death Stranding that uses DLSS1. in fact in some games iv noticed much clearer and more detailed textures with DLSS on.
Sharper edges and textures doesn’t mean better. Native res will always look better.
When papers, signs, and boards are barely visible in native resolution, and DLSS makes it readable, yeah, it’s better.
I said much clearer and more detailed not sharper edges and textures. In this case being able to make out text on a sign or a pattern on clothing with DLSS on while even native 4k does not have that detail is most definitely better.
Tried in Metro Exodus at release (I think it was DLSS1) and Control (both versions of DLSS, Demo at release and Ultimate from Steam), every time I noticed tons of blur both in motion and static, and get feeling like textures was downgraded by one resolution down, hated visuals but liked significant FPS bump, for me personally that blur is unplayable so ended up with crystal clear textures and medium ray-tracing on my 2070, I am always go to options and switch off blur effect where its possible (for almost 15-20 years I assume)
I only tried DLSS 2.0 via GeForce Now (so streaming at 1080p) in Control and Cyberpunk. And the blur/ghosting was horrendous, even at max Quality setting.
Liar.
You had blur and ghosting while using a game streaming service and you’re blaming DLSS?
It ghosted more* using DLSS than without DLSS is what I’m trying to say. But yeah, that’s my only experience with it.
The detail on the textures might increase when you are standing still, but when in motion the overall quality of the graphics goes down thanks to noice, shimmering, artifacts and many other minor effects. You can look up these issues on YouTube for yourself, I am not here to convince you, I just speak the truth and those with understanding will do with it as they see fit.
Iv looked at videos on Youtube and cant see this reduction in quality except in videos showing DLSS1 where its noticeably blurry compared to native and DLSS2. Iv played the games myself and cant see it either. I reckon when AMD release a comparable tech to DLSS it wont be shimmery and blurry any more and you’ll all sing it praises like us lucky NVidia card owners who already have it.
Yeah I agree, most games utilize ray tracing in a poorly implemented way and not worth the performance sacrifice.
I use Nvidia GPU, I will never ever use RayTracing or DLSS 2.0 because they are garbage and useless features. Anyone who doesn’t play in native resolution is a fool.
Raytracing is 100% worth it. Reflections completely change the immersion experience when used properly.
If you don’t see it, you need to see an ophthalmologist or a neurologist, because something’s wrong with you.
I am not sacrifcing 140FPS for sh**ty raytracing at 50fps, f*k off r**ard, you are not a true gamer.
Funny how NVIDIA has more skilled players than gaming press
Those are probably actually pc gamers, a lot of them. The press these days is made up of playstation or nintendo fanboys who were born with a controller in hand. They cant play a pc game with m/kb in this way
while playing there is no time to notice & watch all those …..not worth it….with 60+ fps hit
Time to replay this game again on my 3090.
While AMD’s FSR is still a big unknown, I hope Doom gets an update with this feature enabled too. FSRs biggest advantage is being cross platform, enabling super sampling even on older cards. We still have to wait a few more weeks before we can see how AMD manages to keep image quality up to par with DLSS2.
Considering the game reaches upwards of 120 frames on even the lowest of the new gen cards, I see no issue with the implementation in baseline resolution, for those who enjoy it.
Why do I need to verify my age to watch this video? F*k off YT, I’m not giving you my credit card number.
uBlock Origin chrome extension disables age gates
I have that addon but it doesn’t block the age verification thing on Youtube.

Either you are joking or you have windows 10 the mother Russia edition on your PC. All you need is a google email to view the content lol.
WTF are you on about moron? I’m not using Windows or any proprietary bullshit software on my computer. Everyone from the EU and EEA will be forced to verify their age. Now stop posting if you have nothing of value to contribute.
It does.
Credit card number?
You need to verify your age by giving them your credit card number or sending them a picture of your ID or driving license.
Lol wtf are you going on about? You click the button saying you wish to proceed…
You are obviously not getting the same thing I’m getting. I get the following text when I click the verify link:
“Choose how to verify your age
Use a credit card to verify immediately
You won’t be charged. Any transaction fee will be fully refunded.
Use your ID
Submit an image of a valid ID like your driver’s license or passport. It may take up to 3 days to verify your ID.”
It looks like only Europeans are getting this.
Nah, I’m European and that has never happened to me on YT.
I just installed FreeTube to watch those videos and it works.
Been waiting a while for this
it’s JUST reflections? RIP
Most RTX global illumination is only a slight improvement compared to what shader artists are doing, if at all. Shader artists can’t emulate reflections like RTX can, and so reflections are one of the best things a game can implement.
And I was expecting them to give it a full RTX update as the engine can handle it…yet here we are.
Good reflections…little to no GI change since the original lighting and visuals were stellar already!
You whine like a little baby.
Looks awesome. Playing Control and toggling RTX on and off, you can see a world of difference in how reflections change immersion. Implementing reflections is the biggest change they can make. Global RTX illumination is a nice touch, but since shader artists do such a good job with lighting, it makes sense to prioritize reflections. Ambient occlusion and shadows would have been welcome though.
Making raytraced reflections only for a fast paced game like this is kinda dumb tbh.
