AMD has just announced on Twitter that the company is going to reveal a new Radeon RX 6000 graphics card during Episode 3 of its “Where Gaming Begins” event on March 3 on 11 AM US eastern time. Although the chipmaker didn’t specify the exact GPU model, it’s likely going to be the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card.
The company has shared some renders of the card as well, which are most likely of the RX 6700 XT GPU.
The RX 6700 XT GPU is going to be the third entry in the RX 6000 series graphics family, based on the Navi 22 silicon and RDNA2 architecture.
We also expect the company to announce the non-XT variant as well. The new teaser confirms that the Radeon RX 6700 XT does not have a USB Type-C connector, and a quick glance at the front of the graphics card reveals three DisplayPort 1.4a outputs and a single HDMI 2.1 port. The RX 6700 XT appears to have a shorter cooler with only two cooling fans.
AMD has already released its Navi 21 flagship Big Navi graphics cards, the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6800, respectively. The Navi 22 SKU might end up in the RX 6700-series of GPUs. The Navi 22 GPU might initially come in two variants, the Radeon RX 6700 XT and the Radeon RX 6700, respectively.
The Radeon RX 6700 XT will be based on the NAVI 22 XT GPU, whereas the non-XT plain RX 6700 GPU variant will sport the NAVI 22 XL silicon. Coming to the specs, the Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU will have 40 Compute Units, which amounts to 2560 Stream processors/SPs. This is the same CU count as the RX 5700 XT, thus making it an RDNA 2 replacement of this GPU.
The card will feature 12 GB of VRAM, likely being attached to a 192-bit memory bus interface. The RX 6700 non-XT GPU is also expected to feature 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 192-bit memory bus interface. The exact CU count of this non-XT SKU has not been fully confirmed yet, but the card will be a cut-down variant having fewer CUs than the XT model.
This places the card in direct competition with the Nvidia’s RTX 3060 12GB GPU. AMD will also most likely use 16 Gbps memory dies which would provide a total bandwidth of 384 GB/s.
These mainstream/mid-range Radeon 6000 series GPUs might offer more value for money than the other flagship Big Navi cards, but assuming we can buy one at the MSRP rate set by AMD, which seems unlikely.
These cards are aimed at the sub-$500 GPU market segment, and target 1440p gaming. Once again, GPU’s stock, price and availability are going to an issue, given the recent demand/supply market condition, and manufacturing and shipping costs involved.
Though, this still won’t stop AMD from releasing new SKUs, but gamers are helpless in the end if they cannot grab any new GPU due to scalping and other issues. Also, don’t expect these cards to be easily sold in retail shelves at least at the MSRP rate set by AMD. They are going to have a premium price tag.
AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 and RX 6700 XT Big Navi GPUs will replace the company’s existing RX 5700 series models, offering gamers the benefits of the new RDNA 2 architecture. The cards will support Microsoft’s DirectX 12 Ultimate feature set, higher clock speeds and hardware-accelerated ray tracing (via Vulkan, and DX12 mode).
Both the XT and non-XT variants will also feature AMD’s Infinity Cache memory, Smart access memory/SAM, and RAGE Mode. Lastly, Radeon RX 6000 GPUs will also support the DirectStorage API, which might help reduce the game load times.
Stay tuned for more tech news!
UPDATE:
It appears that AMD won’t be launching the non-XT GPU at the same time, and the company might postpone this SKU for the future.
According to a recent report coming via Cowcotland, AMD would allegedly only showcase one GPU in this series, the RX 6700 XT on March 3rd.
Though, you should still treat this as a rumor for now, but chances are there AMD might delay the non-XT variant assuming this GPU will only sport 6GB of VRAM, instead of previously rumored 12GB variant as well.
It won’t make sense for the company to push a 6GB variant in the market now, given the fact that Nvidia has not even announced the rumored GeForce RTX 3060 6GB variant, or any other 6GB Ampere-based SKU for that matter.
“We have some new information on AMD’s announcement on March 3. Only the RX 6700 XT will be announced. There was indeed an RX 6700 in the red program, for March 15th, but it has been delayed (for the moment) and we will therefore only have the RX 6700 XT which will be commercially available on March 18th”. – Cowcotland.
Hello, my name is NICK Richardson. I’m an avid PC and tech fan since the good old days of RIVA TNT2, and 3DFX interactive “Voodoo” gaming cards. I love playing mostly First-person shooters, and I’m a die-hard fan of this FPS genre, since the good ‘old Doom and Wolfenstein days.
MUSIC has always been my passion/roots, but I started gaming “casually” when I was young on Nvidia’s GeForce3 series of cards. I’m by no means an avid or a hardcore gamer though, but I just love stuff related to the PC, Games, and technology in general. I’ve been involved with many indie Metal bands worldwide, and have helped them promote their albums in record labels. I’m a very broad-minded down to earth guy. MUSIC is my inner expression, and soul.

It is pointless and even insulting to gamers to post about new GPU releases at this time Metal Messiah because they can’t be found except at scalper prices
I believe your message is in the wrong place, please send to lisa.su@AMD.com. This not Messiahs problem, his job is to report on the news NOT make the news. Blame AMD & file your complaint there. C’mon man, you know better.
You reply with a link to some anonymous Russian website?
No it’s not MM relevance to reality with his articles about new GPUs but it is annoying to actual gamers that want to upgrade but can’t because of shortages and scalping. What part of that can’t you comprehend?
No one gives a rats A$$ about your annoyance. If I see an article I don’t care for, I don’t read our comment on it. It’s not the writers problem whether or not you’re annoyed. There is nothing here to comprehend, you’re out of line. You want him to put TRIGGER WARNING on the articles now? You think you’re the only one on here that can’t get a boosted GPU. I’ve been waiting since release date to get one and my birthday is on March 7th, was desperately hoping to get one then, IT AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN! You don’t see me crying and telling people what to write. Relax yourself dude, it’s not that serious. You’re a grown A$$ man.
And what’s it with you and Russian this & Russian that, are you mental?
It’s funny to watch you post. Your link that you posted goes to an anonymous Russian website. Can you at least comprehend that? It would be helpful to begin taking you seriously.
btw I don’t need an upgrade anyway.
Well I need the upgrade like a fish needs water. And I’ve been wanting one since release, have the money set aside and ready. I’ve waited so long my Birthday is even coming up in a week and I STILL won’t be able to get one. If anyone should be ranting & raving it should be me but we are adults not 6 years olds. We also have more pressing issues to deal with at this moment as well. You know like a PLANDEMIC that seeks to destroy our way of life and send our a$$e$ right back into the Dark Ages Of Oppression/Depression.
I know you don’t care about that, because you believe all this bull$hit the government tells you. The same government that’s been caught lying & experimenting on your brother’s since forever; all in the name of ceasing power via your “safety”. All those “conspiracy theories” ain’t so theories anymore. They’ve become conspiracy facts.
What card are you hoping to buy?
Well, I wish you a happy birthday and I hope that the next year will be well for you.
It was not a link to any Russian website, rather an Email ID of AMD’s CEO Lisa Su. It appears because of the DOT between LISA and SU words, made the email id a link of some sort.
Which happens to belong to some Russian website’s address/URL
Couldn’t agree more
No offense, but your rant and post was totally uncalled for. Why are you blaming the Journos/authors for this ? Their duty is to be report on news, and mind you this one was OFFICIAL from AMD.
Every Tech/gaming website has posted this news annoucement as well. So what makes you vent out your anger or frustration ? If gamer’s can’t get hold of any new GPU, it’s not John’s, MM’s or any other author’s problem for that matter.
So would it be the author’s fault, if any GPU can’t be found except at scalper prices? Nope. Like someone mentioned below, blame AMD & file your complaint there.
One sentence doesn’t make a rant. I’m not blaming any journalist for the mess we are in. I just don’t think it’s good to post about GPUs that gamers can’t buy. Why give them any free advertising at all when gamers can’t buy one unless they are willing to get scalped?
And no offense taken. In almost 40 years online I have never been offended by anything posted online except one 30 year old pedophile on Yahoo chat 20 years ago that was inviting 7-10 year old girls for cybersex in a private room chat. Eventually the FBI stepped in and took him offline. Maybe a prison sentence too.
There will be some heavy missing on that aim.
0 stock edition!
Another useless product launch, still not possible to buy a new AMD or Nvidia gpu.
And as always you wont find any of them at marketed price point.
Off Topic:
I just read Nvidia’s latest Yearly Financial Statement:
16.7 billion dollars in revenue and
4.3 billion dollars in profit up 55% from last year
The miners will disappear eventually but the scalpers never will. The shortages are permanent until the bloated GPU manufacturers take action or it’s going to kill PC gaming and kill huge profits for GPU manufacturers as well.
to really kill the scalpers nvidia need to cut all ties with majority if not all of their AIBs. and they need to make their own distribution system where they will cut third party involvement. but doing this won’t be cheap for nvidia since they rely on AIB and third party distributor since the very beginning of their business. other wise i don’t really think the scalping issues can be ended.
Gpu prices will never go down.
For just 3k pounds.
On the grey market, of course!
I’ve given up man, been wanting one since release, now my BIRTHDAY is coming up and it ain’t gonna happen. Sigh
I feel you you, bro!
sub-$500 GPU market segment
A little early for an April fools joke, but…
They can announce whatever they want, nobody can buy any of it.
Has the world opened up a can of stupid and poured it all over this site?
You can’t buy a GPU unless you are willing to get scalped tremendously. That is the reality and the real world.
What is the point in posting articles about phantom GPUs at phantom prices?
https://t.co/4R8Tim1JDx?YclPqcaU
This gpu would be worthless if it is not on par with rtx2080 super and rtx 3060 Ti.
I even think just to buy console for gaming and stop gaming on pc because of this rare stock+ridiculous price of new gpu.
