Anthem Next, or Anthem 2.0, has been officially cancelled

In February 2020, EA and BioWare announced Anthem Next (also known as Anthem 2.0). This new version of Anthem was meant to overhaul its gameplay mechanics. However, BioWare has officially announced its cancellation.

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise. After all, and during the past few months, we haven’t heard anything about Anthem Next. In fact, Chris informed you about its possible cancellation a couple of weeks ago.

BioWare claims that the cancellation of Anthem Next is mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the team stated.

“2020 was a year unlike any other however and while we continue to make progress against all our game projects at BioWare, working from home during the pandemic has had an impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.”

In short, Anthem Next was never a high priority for BioWare and EA. Otherwise, the team would be focusing on it, and would simply delay its future (and unreleased) projects. That’s the harsh truth, and BioWare fans should remember this when both the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect games come out.

Bioware concluded that it needs to laser focus its efforts as a studio and strengthen the next Dragon Age, and Mass Effect titles. The team will be also continuing to provide quality updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic.

And that’s that, Anthem is no more.

“hey guys, the only reason we’re cancelling this is so we don’t overwork our staff, because we care so much about their welfare!”

Imagine having a low enough IQ in order to believe this

  2. I bet Anthem 2.0 was nothing more then an idea that didn’t even get a single piece of concept art. I really don’t believe they were working on this at all

    1. It did get a “Full Bioware planning document” written though, a single piece of paper with the words “make game gud” written on it. Actually tell a lie, that was just them reusing the planning document from when they started Anthem and all that ever got added to it before they just had to make the game.

  3. What the hell?! EA said they would revamp the game by spending years of work and investment on Anthem so as to revive it!

  4. maybe they should skip their yearly FIFA / NBA/ MADDEN titles and actually make something out of Anthem and Bioware.

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  6. … WIth that said, we’d like to take this time to Announce ANTHEM 2. Pre-Orders will be available this friday on steam & our Own origin Client. Who’s Excited?…. ???

  7. Say it ain’t so Bioware say it ain’t so!!!! (no one saw this coming, literally no one haahaaha)

thank god we are done with this

  8. Sad what happened to this game, I tired it early on and the flight, world, exploring and combat are all actually really well done. Why they focused on micro transactions and made the main base not pre load and let you transition in real time is beyond Me, same with forced 1st person and slow movement in the town. Insane if you ask Me.

You know what would of saved this game if they would of done the same model as Valheim and not been greedy with micro transactions, always online and forced server MP. Let’s be honest who actually needs to play with more than 3 – 5 other players, pretty much no one. Anthem was locked to 4 in a group anyways so drop in co-op would of been perfect(should of been no company server’s but P2P) and allowed them to focus on SP as well which is what would of kept it alive for years to come if they kept adding to the world like say WoW.

Had potential but they ruined it, feels bad Man. Well let’s hope Valheim selling 4 Million in a month will finally show AAA you don’t need forced MP, servers and always online.
