If you have been following the latest tech news and Nvidia’s roadmap since past few months or so, then you might have heard rumors that Nvidia was allegedly prepping to launch more SKUs in the current Ampere GPU lineup.
Now according to a report coming via Wccftech, it appears that NVIDIA is reportedly preparing a new RTX 30-series variant positioned around the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3070 GPUs. The company is rebranding the RTX 3060 as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra, and all the 12 GB SKUs will be branded as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra.
The source claims that the Ultra tier branding is a higher spec’d variant than the Ti and rumored SUPER SKUs. Called as GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra, this new GPU is reportedly carved out from the same 8 nm “GA104” silicon as the RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 3070 cards; but it features a slightly different core configuration sporting 12 GB of GDDR6 memory (more VRAM than the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, and the RTX 3080 cards, respectively)
The memory interface might have been beefed up as well, as the source claims, but it is still unclear whether the memory bus width has been narrowed down to 192-bit, or if the same 256-bit wide memory bus will be used.
First pictures of a custom GeForce RTX 3060 ULTRA graphics card designed by ASUS have been shared by Wccftech, which confirms the ULTRA nomenclature. The SKU spotted is the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 Ultra (ASUS TUF-RTX3060U-O12G-Gaming), which is a 2.7 slot triple-fan custom design with 0dB technology.
Wccftech reports the card’s MSRP pricing to be around USD $449. It might be possible that NVIDIA could feature three graphics cards within its GeForce RTX 3060 lineup, the Ti, the Ultra, and the standard SKU. The Ultra variant is expected to be announced on the 12th of January at NVIDIA’s CES 2021 keynote.
For comparison, the RTX 3060 Ti is built on the 8 nm process node, and is based on the GA104 graphics processor, GA104-200-A1 variant, and the card supports DirectX 12 Ultimate. The GA104 graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 392 mm² and 17,400 million transistors.
Unlike the fully unlocked GeForce RTX 3070, which uses the same GPU but has all 5888 shaders enabled, NVIDIA has disabled some shading units on the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti to reach the product’s target shader count. It features 4864 shading units, 152 texture mapping units, and 80 ROPs.
Also included are 152 tensor cores which help improve the speed of machine learning applications. The card also has 38 raytracing acceleration cores.
NVIDIA has paired 8 GB GDDR6 memory with the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which are connected using a 256-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 1410 MHz, which can be boosted up to 1665 MHz, memory is running at 1750 MHz (14 Gbps effective).

Hello, my name is NICK Richardson. I’m an avid PC and tech fan since the good old days of RIVA TNT2, and 3DFX interactive “Voodoo” gaming cards. I love playing mostly First-person shooters, and I’m a die-hard fan of this FPS genre, since the good ‘old Doom and Wolfenstein days.
MUSIC has always been my passion/roots, but I started gaming “casually” when I was young on Nvidia’s GeForce3 series of cards. I’m by no means an avid or a hardcore gamer though, but I just love stuff related to the PC, Games, and technology in general. I’ve been involved with many indie Metal bands worldwide, and have helped them promote their albums in record labels. I’m a very broad-minded down to earth guy. MUSIC is my inner expression, and soul.

this has been a very good running joke
prices are high and Nvidia thinks well we will keep adding more cards
How about an RTX 3070 with 12GB?
And a 3080 with 16GB
aaannnnd, its gone….The card is going to be out of stock globally. Good luck buying one of these puppies. “D
I have imagined they would cost more. More VRAM after all. And it’s NVIDIA.
instead of making more variations of cards… how about pumping stock up on the ones already released. like wtf

What a waste of VRAM. A card that is clearly not suited for higher resolutions gets excess VRAM to drive up the price. Stupid.
How about a 3060 Ultra Ti that is completely identical to a 3070 but has one tensor core deactivated and costs 10 bucks less? How about a 3060 GT that is between the 3060 (if it exists, I don’t even know) and the 3060 Ti? How about a 3065 Ti? There’s a lot of room for additional tiers still.
What an a*s backwards lineup, Nvidia really got rattled this time.
Rip the low budget guy.
More VRAM than the 3080. What!?
