GOG.com feature 2

GOG aims to become a universal storefront, has partnered with Epic Games Store

GOG has recently announced a new updated plan to expand its platform into a universal storefront which would allow gamers and customers to purchase and launch titles from other competing platforms within GOG.

The first partner happens to be Epic Games Store. This would help bring over a number of PC titles to the new store including exclusives such as The Outer Worlds. Epic Games seems to be open to this new idea and we could see more timed-exclusive indie and AAA games on GOG.

Basically GOG aims to become a universal game storefront that will help us buy titles from other stores, apart from being a universal platform as well. This new partnership feature or policy is currently in a closed internal beta test phase, though GOG is working to finalize it. There is no specific release date or ETA given yet.

We don’t have much info on the sales or the exact revenue logistics of this new model but some revenue split deals must have been put into place beforehand. Throughout the internal beta test GOG will be inviting more gamers, expanding the store’s catalog and will also introduce new features. Also it appears that all purchases will be covered by a 30-days refund policy as well as 24/7 online support.

To quote the full press release:

“We created GOG GALAXY 2.0 to give gamers a better way of organizing all their games across multiple gaming platforms into one library. Since its launch, the most requested new feature has been the option to buy games not only from GOG.COM, but from other platforms as well, straight from the GOG GALAXY app.

Today, we’re happy to invite the first group of gamers to test the brand new store we’re working on, and share their feedback with us.

In the new store, we will be welcoming games from both GOG.COM and beyond – including titles previously exclusive only to other gaming platforms. With the internal beta launching today, invited users will have the option to buy games from a selection of hand-picked Epic Games Store exclusive titles, alongside all GOG.COM games. Most importantly, all purchases are covered by our 30-days refund policy as well as 24/7 human support.

There is still plenty of work ahead of us. As the internal beta test continues, we will be inviting more gamers, expanding the store’s catalog and introducing new features. For a chance to be part of this test, join GOG GALAXY today at gogalaxy.com.”

Stay tuned for more!

    1. Yeah, pretty much. I’ll wait and see but my hate for Epic and love for GoG, a good match they do not make.

          1. Yeah man, i should be totally mad about some bs digital stores i don’t even buy games from like you guys. Grow the F up!

        1. I want to buy games with my own hard-earned cash. Also, buying games with my own money means I’m supporting the game devs directly.

Epic’s free games means I’m not contributing to the game devs. The extra cash flow they’re getting is from Epic, not from me.

          1. Sounds like larping as CEO giving wages to the devs… Ok, but why should they care from where the money is coming from? You can always buy the game if you don’t like getting it for free.

          2. if youre so worried about the devs not getting their money then just buy the game? its not like the games are permanently free on epic store..

  1. I don’t want my money in pockets of disgusting looking yellow ching chongs, there’s a reason they have 5cm diks.

      1. Haha, something have always been wrong with dagoat. We just let him roam around freely from time to time. Sorry about that.

    1. Then don’t buy phones, or basically anything.
As a spaniard i love how US is going to sh*t, long live China.

      1. Are you insane or what ? competitive because of what reasons you think you braindead trash ?
They make 6-year-old children work, they force them to work 80 hours / weeks without paying them, they get practically nothing, they have NO environmental standards, the energy that feeds their filthy factories comes exclusively from disgusting coal…. AND don’t get me wrong here, I HATE USA almost as much as them………….

      2. Long live China….
They make 6-year-old children work, they force people to work 80 hours /
weeks without paying them, they get practically nothing, they have NO
environmental standards, the energy that feeds their filthy factories
comes exclusively from disgusting coal…. and I could continue all day long….

  2. But why? The whole appeal of GOG is to get DRM free games. I love that Galaxy let’s me see my entire library through one application, but it’s not a selling point for me to be directed to a worse storefront to buy games. Plus once you have them, the other application has to be running in the background, so it’s just more DRM.

      1. yeah its baffling to see amount of stupid people in dsogaming that criticize nearly everything without any reason

    1. Epic store is still seperate from gog u idiot , if u never want to use epic just don’t enable epic integration in GOG galaxy app , u won’t ever have to see it again

  3. It was better when they just launched other games and nothing more. All this does is allow and already weaker storefront like GoG to have it’s userbase siphoned by EG, just like how MS basically makes use of Sony via crossplay userbase access.

I guess CDP is desperate for money at this point. I’d rather take it out the back of the shed and put it out of it’s misery, if this is how far they are willing to go. Could have gone with Steam or anyone else, but nah, Mr moneybags.

  4. Yet another dumb CDPR decision from the growing list of them… sigh.
Cue the “you were the chosen one” meme

        1. Mostly related to Cyberpunk design decisions and general marketing with western aligned sensibilities. If those decisions are dumb, i can’t tell, but some don’t like it.

  5. Why? Out of all the people to partner with. Out of all the stores. Why? I’m intrigued as to how this will work. Damn GoG. . .

      1. Uhm, GOG users out of all people despises the $hit out of Epic. So please speak for yourself and not us. We are at GOG because we want 100% DRM-Free. I fear for what this might turn gog into. But I’m gonna wait and see and not jump to conclusions. But seriously, cut the $hit!

          1. Thank you for that point. Everyone is acting as if Epic has MORe market share or people buying from them and THEY don’t. with exceptions to Fu Fu-nite. See what i did there? i had to put a disclaimer cause some idiot is gonna respond with, “what about fortnite, it outsells everything”. But yeah, 100% with you. And instead of letting them die, GoG is over here making friends.

      2. ahahah yeah because there’s so much braindead PoT out there, you are right I guess… at least, Covid-19 is making a good cleanup right now

    1. out of all the stores? which ones are there? i mean GoG surely wont partner up with steam steam doesnt need them. and all the other stores i cant think of have mainly games from just one publisher (battle net, ubiplay, etc)

  6. I recommend using Playnite as a solution for the orgy of launchers, you will still need the launchers installed obviously, but at least you have every single game (emulation included) at hand in a singular UI.

        1. Playnite is a really awesome piece of software taking into consideration that its made by a single developer and it has done many things better then GOG galaxy 2.0 but GOG galaxy has edge in other things like better and consistent looking design and automatic syncing while in Playnite the overall look is very inconsistent and have to manually sync it with some app but the support of emulators is really phenomenal in PLaynite

  7. So they want to turn it Galaxy not only into a central location to launch games across services, but also as a way to buy them.

That’s going to be pretty cool once it supports more stores: imagine having a centralised wishlist and then being able to see the price of each game in your wishlist across several stores at a glance (with discounts reflected if sales are ongoing).

If you are store agnostic it would be a great way to easily get a read of the market.

    1. “That’s going to be pretty cool once it supports more stores…”

How is that cool? Centralizing things to a single app, makes no change in that you still rely on separately existing and governed entities, to access said games.

This is like putting perfume on a pig. It’s presented slightly nicer, but it’s still a stinky pile of s**t underneath it all.

      1. How is that cool? Centralizing things to a single app, makes no
change in that you still rely on separately existing and governed
        entities, to access said games.

That’s what you want. That’s the whole point of being on PC. So that you aren’t stuck in a walled garden.

        1. what’s wrong with that ? They are not mixing up the stores , epic games store remains separate from gog and u can hide it forever if u don’t want to use it ,FYI i also hate epic and never used there store but being able to purchase steam store games or uplay games from within the GOG galaxy app is a cool idea…

      2. what’s wrong with that ? 2. It’s a nice idea, but it’s too far behind Steam to be of any use. This is the slow death of GOG as it’s eaten up by Epic.

      1. GOG has always been dying they barely get any use despite everyone and their mom saying how nice is to not have DRM and the such, yet everybody is on steam.

          1. eh personally i dont know anyone that uses it but hopefully thats true. still, it took em how many years to get even remotely popular despite no DRM and really consumer friendly policies?
            evidently they need something else

          2. Poland & Funding CDPR help them out a ton…a lot of people do use GOG…Galaxy 2.0 and the extra funding help them push…I been using GOG since 2012 they came out around 2008 with no Galaxy

    1. or buying a Switch or Iphone from their factories, while they are busy catching with a net their suicidal employees..

      1. and how does that excuse this disgusting partnership between Tencent and Epic ??

Globalization is a cancer, same for the subhuman race, nothing new here

    2. China is one place we should’ve never done business with. We created & fattened that Monster. I never understood how could anyone in the world do business with a country that had a one child limit and it had to be all boys. Are you telling me no one asked, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GIRLS? China is the monster we Fuqin we deserve.

      1. yea they keep invading other countries and making or backing coups all over the world right?? oh wait that was the US, if china is a monster then its a far second

    1. I’m trying to figure that out. I really am! I wished they’d give us more info how this is actually going to work. But yeah, what the Fuq happened to DRM-Free?..

      1. Games on there own gog data base remains DRM free , they just added an option to purchase the epic store games from within the GOG galaxy app itself and its completely separate from the GOG store , if u don’t want to use epic store u can also hide it and never think about it again , they are just trying to unify the library of PC games .Many good AAA games get only released on steam soo yeah it would be a good idea to be able to purchase steam games from within the GOG galaxy app .FYI i never used epic games store and i hate it from the bottom of my heart

        1. The only way i’d accept all of this is if I never have to install steam or epic or any other launcher in order to play those games. There are DRm Free games all over Steam, bring them to GOg Galaxy via a purchase and I’m cool with that. But i’m not into running this 50 launchers in the background Garbage. That’s all rubbish! I stopped buying DRM games Long all i buy are games from GOG. I don’t have FOMO, therefor i don’t have a need to play AAA titles, they are usually garbage anyways. Everytime i buy an AAA game i never finish it, cause it’s garbo. AA games on the other hand, i always finish and replay.

          1. Are u dumb or what ? What exactly are you criticizing ? GOG galaxy 2.0 isn’t forcing anyone to purchase from epic nor forcing it in GOG galaxy launcher , to be able to buy games from epic through GOG u have to install GOG galaxy app itself and then enable epic integration in it which u can always ignore by default . I never used epic but i buy from steam and GOG only and it is actually cool to be able to see all your library in GOG galaxy 2.0 and being able to purchase from different stores within GOG galaxy app. Heck they aren’t even forcing GOG launcher and u don’t like to use the client then what exactly are u worrying about ? Besides as much as i love GOG even u have to admit that Steam is still superior platform compared to GOG . I despise denovu Drm but steam isn’t forcing anyone , its the developers choice whether they want to use it or not .

          2. I only buy games from GOG, unless I know the games on steam that I purchase are DRM free and so far the ones from CDPR are

  8. LMAO, this society is on a cerebral death for sure… there is nothing more to be done to help humanity, the bottom of the barrel has been reached for a long time. The big cleaning has already started, by the way… and this is a good thing.

    1. You forgot the whole campaign that GOG did with FCKDRM…that didn’t age well, when a lot of games in Epic store use DRM…specially Denuvo.
People like options, but they dont like them when they are offered behind hypocrisy.
