A lot of fans criticized Cloud Imperium these past few days for a complete lack of communication. After all, the team had promised to launch the game’s closed beta in Q3 2020. And today, Cloud Imperium issued an official statement about the progress of Squadron 42 and its upcoming roadmap.
Let’s start with the obvious, the beta phase for Squadron 42 won’t be happening anytime soon. In December 2018, Cloud Imperium claimed that an alpha phase for Squadron 42 would begin in early 2020. Then, in August 2019, the team delayed the beta phase by 12 weeks. Since we haven’t even seen an alpha phase for Squadron 42, it’s safe to assume that the beta phase has been – unofficially – delayed, again.
It’s also worth noting that since December 2019, the team has not released any new materials for Squadron 42. In December 2019 we got a cinematic teaser trailer. However, and since then, we haven’t seen any new tech videos, gameplay teasers, or new screenshots.
What’s even funnier here is that since March 2020, the team has been working on a new roadmap that it cannot share yet. Let this sink in; the studio has been working on a roadmap – which is still unfinished – for four months. I mean, this gets a bit ridiculous at this point.
But anyway, Cloud Imperium claims that this new roadmap will give its fans better visibility into what teams are working on, share the progress of more teams, and go so far as to indicate the size of the projects for its tech, features, and content teams. This new roadmap will drastically change how you follow the development progress for both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. The new roadmap will also focus more on breaking out teams and features so you can interactively see what is being worked on across all teams, as opposed to what features will make X release.
Lastly, Cloud Imperium plans to deliver the following communications in the immediate future:
- Give an explanation of the goals of the new Roadmap and what to expect from it
- Show a rough mockup of the proposed new Roadmap
- Share a work in progress version of the Roadmap for at least one of its core teams
- And then finally transition to this new Roadmap

Prepare a new sentence for after the release. Looking for how you can circle-jerk on a released game and still call it vaporware/scam/ponzy… all terms that are already false in 2020 🙂
The Kickstarter ended in 2012, with an estimated delivery of 2014. Here we are, 6 years later… still waiting for that magical release.
Still have nothing tangible other than a store selling ships for thousands of dollars. Reports that they’ve gathered over $300 million so far from
chumpsconsumers. A budget well beyond what GTAV had, and GTAV has been out for less time than SC has been bilking people.too much ambition can be dangerous
they sure show ambition for this preview of a roadmap, I’m surprised you didn’t have to pay a fee to view it…
So dangerous it can be used as a business model to goad mentally unstable people into giving you money.
More bullshit excuses from Cloud Imperium.
They have roadmaps for days! All they do is make fancy trailers to sell virtual ships, that is their business model. Like you watch commercials on TV for products, same way you do with Star Citizen for virtual items.
The only difference is that is you actually get to use the products you buy on TV.
Yet Star Cultizens will still keep spending tens of thousands of dollars on ships…for a game that began development 8 years ago, and has been in alpha for barely 2 IIRC.
the titanic.jpg
“its been 84 years”
makes me feel like it’s some sort of elaborate tax dodge
Guys at the top are probably enjoying a large salary, and they are keeping hundreds of people employed, so even if it utterly fails, they still had something to keep them busy for a decade.
meanwhile we get shafted. I also backed Elite Dangerous about the same time and though it had a smaller scope, it’s fleshed out over time and is rapidly getting to the point where its as ambitious as the original pitch for SC/S42 – and i’ve owned a final copy of that for years 😐
Not all have spent to have the game, got it for free from a drive i got from work (optane). If the game takes off i would consider spending some however, its massive and its detail lack competition. Its really a next gen title in the making. That said the BIG question is if it ever gets there….
Roadmap for a roadmap.
They also delayed the announcement of the delay KEK
Kickstarter for a roadmap for a roadmap?
It’s a scam people, give up.
Scam? Try money laundering.
Oh C.I., I’M SO ANGRY!!! Please have some more money directly from my wallet so you can post an update faster!!!
Perfect parody of a republican voter.
I have bought couple of the cheaper ships and can’t wait for the roadmap update!
As wise as ever
Talk about a stupid bot.
Still no sight of some excellent news!
I’m surprised Joe Blobbers hasn’t showed up yet to defend this decision. Perhaps he has finally seen through this scam.
LOL… Scam is as valid in 2020 that it was in 2015… remember: “collapse 90 days top for sure!”… by the same internet experts rushing to throw scam 🙂
Enjoy the scam Blobber!
Enjoy your hate Napo… Like it or not, SC do get patch quarterly, and SQ42 will enter beta. There is no question about if but when.
Thousands of backers are playing every day and ten thousands are joining after each free for all weeks per year letting everyoneplay/test the current alpha.
Bugs, crash? yes for sure this is an alpha don’t expect a game with all possible gameplay and fully polished after many fix patch.
As long you understand it, this is fine. Some patch are more stable than others depending on the quantity of codes changed/added.
Meanwhile, 3.10 is going to be released in few days. In few weeks CIG will provide consolidated roadmap on SQ42+ SC… and those 45$ (nothing more needed) is still the best spent money vs times spend playing/testing alpha versus Triple-A costing more.
Also 3.11 and 3.12 add two new gameplay: tractor beam and the beginning of salvage required tech with free form tool cutting.
and SQ42 will enter beta ….
there isnt even a alpha …
there is no road map …
there is no game ….
BFG trolling at its best… You know it is visible even for the blindest reader?
SQ+SC share the same tech. There is a SQ42 alpha: this is SC, playable since years, receiving quarterly patch and surprisingly enough the past patch and upcoming ones are precisely preparing SQ42 beta.
All others specific SQ42 assets are hidden till release. No spoilers.
Don’t like it? stay on the fence… or shoot vaporware/scam like some resident trolls around 🙂
Worst scam ever 1.2 million individual can test/play anytime plus several weeks for free by everyone each years. 🙂

Cool story.

The world is not collapsing, SQ42 features implementation have been done thought SC roadmap since March as well as multiple video made by devs explaining correlation between SC and SQ42 features. But let’s pretend there is no information or progress… lol

PS4 already preparing to move into PS5 and Star Citizen that claimed to be “PC mastah race exclusive game” still unfinished. How long the players must wait? After PS7 released? lol
They should focus on completing the base game rather adding more contents to it. I mean, they can update it, its online game afterall. Building universe 1:1 is super ambitious without procedurally generated contents like No Man’s Sky.
The promises of the dream is gone once the product “officially” releases though. Being unfinished allows people to cling onto something.
Not really, it is supposed to be an MMO, you can always add expansions to keep the game fresh.

All aboard the scam train #5000000 !
Where are all the apologists now?
We told you. We told you over and over and you wouldn’t listen. Fools.
I had hope, did the $50 kickstarter thing forever ago. Sad to see this happen. Appears to be feature creep more than anything else.
Same. Got one of the starter packs year and years ago that had Squadron 42 bundled and figure I’d just see if it becomes a thing or not. While the online and coop have been a bit of fun here and there I’ve never been too invested. Still just gonna sleep on it this one and see where it goes if anywhere.
you’d think twitch scammers would be smart enough to see through scams… does the guy have any viewers or is he one of those sad larpers broadcasting to an audience of 0-3 people for months?
Can’t wait for a complete rework of the new roadmap in 2022 (might get delayed to 2023).
Someone in a recent interview asked Mark Hamill what was the latest news on Squadron 42 and he said something to the effect, “I don’t know, I filmed my part over 5 years ago.”
There’s no way they can get away with delaying a freaking single-player game everytime they get to the end of a roadmap. I can’t imagine the amount of money that they burned just to get big Hollywood stars to be in the game 6 years ago (and then brought them back everytime Chris Roberts changed the script).
If CIG can’t even respect a roadmap that they’ve made then they can’t be trusted to deliver any game. Also no, they can’t hide behind COVID, it’s been 6 years, FFS.
This is clearly a scam but I’m sure the CIG fanboys will find a way to explain the huge mansion that Roberts bought.
They have been getting away with it for years now.
The people who payed are in a cult like community.
Q-citizen.
The true cult are haters and uneducated individual about game development cycle and finance.
There is a reason why free weeks to everyone drag in 10 thousands new backer each time. None of those guys have a cult, nor original backer like me who pledged for a starter package and did enjoyed the ride since years. Best $ spent on a game.
A successful Pyramide Scheme then.
Waporware, scam, ponsi had non sense back in 2016. Words have a meaning 🙂
Worst scam ever with +600 (500 internal) employees working hard to deliver quarterly patch, tested/played by 1.2 million individual backers.
To burn money, they would have to actually develop a game, but maybe their cgi ads cost tons of money?
same with me they can scrap the whole Universe just give me the singleplayer
so in other words…. SQ42 is cancelled
“the team had promised to launch the game’s closed beta in Q3 2020,” no, they hadn’t. They’re gonna test it internally during Q3 2020, not release a beta for backers. There’s not gonna be a beta for backers. But yeah, the way they’ve handled this entire project is a f*king dumpster fire. Let’s hope it’s worth it in the end.
Imagine paying money for this sh*t. This level of incompetency makes me laugh so hard I can barely breath.
I mean really, are you all really surprised? If so, you need to get out more. This has been a hallmark of this company since its inception.
Star-citizen, a huge demo still for what next gen could very well become. Will it reach the finishing line… no idea. Got the game+free ship from an drive (optane) that i got from work so hope it will take off, its scope/detail are insane to be honest – Truly next gen in the making
At best SC is an alpha 0.01 barely playable demo…with beautyfull graphics!
Too mutch bugs to be realy playable.SC gone be out in 1 year or 2, finished at 40% with tons of bugs…
Modders gone try to fix things and the game gone die. They should have stop to add things 2 years ago…And finish Squadron 42.Then focus on the multi player.
They should have learn from “No man’s sky” finish the game first then add stuff.
But too mutch money,no control, what do you expect…
They should have started with SQ42 imo, far more manageable size of a project – Once that was done go for SC and by then much of SQ42’s code etc would make SC far easier to handle. IE take it in steps… instead of a huge leap like they do now.
Woah woah woah. SP delay, yeah, a bit frustrating. But SCAM? It’s not a scam when people throw money at you. They quite literally had to make sh*t up for all the funding they were accumulating. In this industry, when money is flowing, you better damn well secure it. Job security for 3D modelers riggers animators and the such it a godsend. With that much money a having a roadmap for the future and being precise with it is a good thing. (just ref the abominations Disney produced. 2 years to write, film and release a sequel (ep7) to the largest scifi IP of all time). Sure it sucks cuz well… we are all waiting. But thats the issue with crowdfunding. I have not played it for over a year. I only bought a small ship. I don’t understand people dropping thousands of dollars on it. Different strokes…
“I only bought a small ship.”
COPE
Yeah. the 40 buck one. maybe I got PWNED though.
Delayed the announcement of the delay. Next level!
im so glad i didnt fund this……time it releases everyone will be retired and not care.
btw the devs are funding there retirement also with all the money given..lol
With new consoles coming, next gen games will look better.
This shyt took to longer.
They should have scrapped 42 long ago and made a purely multiplayer experience to speed things up.
Biggest scam in gaming history
pls just release it exlusive on console, then make console peasants mad,, PC don’t need this trash..
Remember people, one of the developer said back then in 2014 that he had played all squadron 42 missions!
All 42 of them? lmao.
I’m sure he did. There were no missions, sooooo, technically he was telling the truth.
It will never be released.. Lost hope years ago.. All you people who paid to this overly pretentious project, should join together and sue their a**es off..
People say it’s a scam, but it’s just Roberts being well known for horrible, god awful mismanagement, and it shows in his previous games, his movie production. The man needs to not be in charge of running the show, and things would be sorted out easily.
And then it will be sh*t game no one needs)
money laundering game haha
I bet that kuck Gullible Nelva is still shilling for it over on his terrible website.
This scam is just like a religion at this point.
Brainwashed sheep will say this is the best game ever made, even if there’s no game, as the whole world can see.
I really hope SQ42 can see the light of the day, but I kinda doubt it will ever happen, sadly. It has a great potential.
https://youtu.be/lwjcY5AjOPE
It’s basically Half Life 3 minus the scam part.
New backers don’t care about hater video’s that do not reflect the game. I can pick any game bugs and pretend it reflect it is current state or lake of progress…. for sure nothing happened since 2018 lol
Remember Fallout 76 (total crap… a broken copy of Fallout 4), Anthem (to be
re-worked from scratch)… they were released as done and polished…
Because date is everything for publishers and their followers… not counting the gazillion of “something of game Remaster” publishers announced for the upcoming years.
since 3.9 have been delivered and 3.10 PTU for all phase
+ 188.801 new account registered
+ 30 M$ new pledges
Not even during a brand new concept ship event.
… because of course all players are total moron not able to see what they test and decide that even during a patch debugging, it is worth to join. All moron but the handful of raging haters 🙂
i rly wanna se your dumb face when this game just colapses cuz Cloud Imperium isnt makeing games … they make money …
the writing is on the wall and anyone witha a half braincell can se that this game will never be finish …… but hey …..
this is you

Nobody care about dedicated hater troll lol… keep coming. SQ42 beta
is coming, you can jump in all direction and pretend the tiny vocal
minority is driving the project.
+1.2 million individual backers growing by ten thousands at every free for all weeks.
Try harder 🙂
That’s why my favorite space sim games is Freespace. No fancy trading, diplomacy or any of that nerd sheit.
Cloud Imperium:”We sell dreams and hope. Please click the $ button to fund your dream and hope to become reality”
this is the kind of stuff that antitrust and class action lawsuits are made of.
whatever they’re doing it isn’t actually trying to produce the game at this point,
and are so far beyond what the law provides as *good faith” it’s not even funny.
they should have their feet held to the fire at this point, just my opinion.
Wasn’t there a rumor about money laundering at one point?
obviously something’s going on
I mean… really.
As usual on this site, the same haters will drop the same comment: vaporware or scam.
Worst scam ever with +500 devs working to deliver quarterly patch.
The same guys saying “collapse 90 days for sure!”… back in 2015 🙂
Hate more. 3.10 is going to be released in few days. In few weeks CIG will provide consolidated roadmap on SQ42+ SC… and those 45$ (nothing more needed) is still the best spent money vs times playing/testing alpha versus shallow copy/paste Triple-A costing more.

Blobber said the same thing every year on every random article on the internet! The result is still the same, no game, let alone games.
Enjoy the scam Blobber!
I hope they get sued to Oblivion.
*Misleading article?*
They aren’t working on a roadmap for the roadmap. They are working on the roadmap for the roadmap of the roadmap. It’s an obvious yet subtle distinction. The truth is they decided to add in ray-tracing with the hopes that they could sufficiently accelerate those rays to cause time travel thus finishing the game before the Kickstarter even started… but then they realized that wasn’t financially viable since they couldn’t keep selling ship DLC on a game they’d already finished hence they dropped the roadmap to the roadmap of the roadmap plan and are currently transitioning back to a roadmap of the roadmap…
Thus they are transitioning instead to a Schrodingers Cat roadmap where the game may or may not be fun to play if or when you actually play it. Thus it remains the most alive and most dead game ever to exist… or at least that’s what the roadmap to the roadmap is scheduling a meeting to discuss…
