Industry insider, Dusk Golem, has shared/leaked some new details about the next part in the Resident Evil franchise. According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 8 was originally meant to be Resident Evil Revelations 3. However, and since the “real” Resident Evil 8 game is a few years away, Capcom has decided to re-title Revelations 3 to Resident Evil 8.
The reason I said RE8 was "years away" earlier this year is last year a RE8 was in development, & that one is years away. But Capcom didn't want a huge gap between RE7 and RE8, so that title got pushed to the side for now, & internal testing and such was super positive on Rev 3.

What’s really interesting here is that Resident Evil 8 will release in 2021. Not only that, but Dusk Golem believes that Capcom will reveal this new RE game in the next few months. The original plan was to reveal Resident Evil 8 at E3 2020. However, and since this event is not happening, he doesn’t know exactly when the announcement will be made.
Resident Evil 8 will be cross-gen, meaning that it will hit both current-gen and next-gen platforms. It will feature a first-person perspective and most of the themes from the previous leaks will be present. However, and as Capcom continues working on it, some elements may change. You can find the previous Resident Evil 8 leaks here and here.
The game has been going through some huge changes to make it more like a "mainline" title, big changes to the story, characters, etc. So specifically what you've heard may not be fully true in the final, but a number of elements remain.
So as I've said, it's a cross-gen game.
— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) April 4, 2020
Furthermore, the game will have more supernatural themes than sci-fi elements. For instance, players can expect hallucinations, occultism, insanity and not being able to trust other people.
the game. The rest I'll leave to be revealed later this month, but the game I am incredibly excited about. And I suggest those weary should be open minded, most who played the game near-finished as Rev 3 think it's terrific. It'll probably be a high quality game.
— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) April 4, 2020
Dusk Golem has also shared some additional gameplay details on the Resetera forum. According to him, the game will have three “stalkers”. The first stalker was present in the Ambassador demo people played in February 2020. That stalker was a Witch that laughs a lot and dissipates into a swarm of insects when you shoot at her.
“She’s kinda’ different than the normal RE stalker types (as are the other two), she is more of a trickster and likes to mess with you.”

Dont know what to make of this.
dont question. consume product. then wait for new product.
Usually people who tell you not to judge have the biggest reasons to BE JUDGED.
Or. OR. He just wants people to not build too much expectations over the game so they eventually don’t find themselves being dissapointed. No need to be overly-cynical, alright?
there was a article on gizmodo saying that cannon is not important and no one should abide by it.
peak “fck the fans” and “let us turn everything into derivative sjw trash”

sooooo boobies?
they switched from neogaf to reeeset era, i think its clear the entire gaming industry is infested with sjws. Even rockstar games c3cked wth rdr 2 and they agreed with the same people who called them misogynistic with gta prostitutes nonsense. This is why one of the Houser brothers who writes the story in gta games has left the studio.
it was like that in the NeoGAF days as well and that place was no better. There must be some really deep ties to sh*t people in our industry going to sh*t places.
its not our industry anymore, just like hollywodo its run by sjws.
Gaming got too popular too quickly and then the people who got shut out because they are literally crazy banded together with like minded crazies with connections and ruined our hobbies because nobody wanted to pay attention to their narcissistic BS. we should have gatekeeped harder.
we didnt gatekeep.
hmm sounds a lot like F.E.A.R
Here comes the next mind numbing trope. The perpetual “stalker”. Let’s not beat a dead horse in to glue or anything. Every negative review I read about RE3R, has large complaints about how bad the Nemesis is implemented, and how quickly boring it becomes.
Corporate logic: It worked in that one game, so let’s put it in EVERY game!
I hate immortal chasers in video games, its IMO one of the worst gaming tropes.
In RE2 RE there is a mod to remove whats his name, but leave the boss fights, makes the game much better and more similar to RE1, exploration, puzzle solving, no one runs after you.
This.
How terrible you gotta be in a videogame to complain about Mr.X
The boss/chaser legit is a slowpoke and he can never outrun you, he is designed that way he is just there to stress you. Even if you face him you can bait his basic attack which is always a right hand punch by getting close to him and turning away
That way you have ~2 seconds to pass next to him since he needs to finish his animation of pulling back his punch etc. He is pretty robotic unlike Nemesis.
Also in RE3R Nemesis rewards you if you “kill him” with weapon upgrades and iirc in the first parts of the game he just needs a single Grenade to die. Also there are so many parts in the alleys where you meet him that have either explosive barrels (instant kill) or generators (stunned for ~5 secs i think)
I do not understand the tenacity of some people with everything being easy or casual, hell if you can’t be arsed to get challenged by a 60$ game just play on Assisted mode and enjoy the story.
You just dont get it, Chasing enemies is BAD game design, its like x360 era Follow Missions [most famous is RE4] and Convoy Missions [too many to name].
The only reason they have chasing enemies is to make smaller game feel bigger and to waste ammunition.
It has no reason to exist.
The game’s main boss is a Pursuer. The original game’s main boss back in 1999 was a Pursuer.
The Remake’s main audience is obviously the Original’s RE3 players so the Remake had to be similar to the Original.
If you do not want a game with a Pursuer those are the majority and they release like weekly, feel free to play them since RE3R is not for you.
Not gonna discuss how chasing is a “bad game design” because it makes no sense to me and this argument came with no facts or information in general to support it.
I have a copy of the original RE3 for PC, and the remake, and I can tell you, they did no favors to the game. The original was kinda a “whatever” game, but this remake is horrible.
I started playing it one day after release, and I am currently half way through the game on Inferno mode, and so bored, I saved and put it away for now. I mean, what’s the point? I already have every item from the points shop unlocked, and every achievement completed.
The game is so short, I can almost do two playthroughs in the time it takes me to do one of the original.
Nemesis is so easily avoided, he’s almost worthless. My main complaint is the airborne zombies that drop from out of nowhere, even in the sewers, when the ceiling is there, and there is no place for them to have fallen from.
Mr X was a common complain for good reason, while it added tension and some challenge for the traversal, after a couple of minutes it becomes annoying…not intimidating or challeging..just annoying (the teletransportation it does ,a cheat, is a immersion breaking disaster)….but you can say that it was what they tried to make with Nemesis in original RE3, just poorly implemented, but the blueprint was there.
You can’t justify what the did to Nemesis, from a constant threat to a generic scripted cutscenes boss. Is like they reversed the roles of Mr X and Nemesis in both remakes, idiotic to say at the very least.
Something being common doesn’t automatically make it valid, with that kind of mindset Fortnite is the best game ever created with its tens millions of players daily, a masterpiece while RE1 PSX is mediocre because it sold 5mil “only”.
Facts matter not arguments for the sake of argument.
The way i see it is simple, RE2R/RE3R didn’t change much in some aspects compared to the originals its the players who changed, they can’t face a challenger anymore. (not talking about story)
In the one hand they complain about game length and in the other hand they complain about challenge. They want to finish the game in like 5 hours and they want the progression to be linear, like the game has 3 parts (RPD/Sewers/Lab) and they want it to be the same difficulty in all 3 and last the same too.
Both new and old RE are assymetrical in that regard.
With Claire at least (the one i can recall) the Mr.X section is ~5-10 minutes tops if you know what to do. Bad players can make it like 2 hours because they can’t grasp if the red key goes to a red door which is highlighed on the Map and if the yellow lever goes to a (?) mark which is highlighed on the Map, again.
With Leon i can’t recall not gonna lie and he met Mr.X more often iirc. Still it does not change the fact that you can sidestep almost everything by either baiting it to rush and, back off and then just run next to it or just walk. Hell even RE2R is beaten just by walking – no running
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAzlPweE5wE
The enemy AI is just dumb not gonna lie, in general the AI in games is super dumb and its the only part which hasn’t progressed (along with Sound too i guess) the past ~10 years.
How was Nemesis in Original 3 not scripted ? Every single encounter was. How is it bad that in the Remake if you gain a lot of distance he dashes, he is supposed to be a Pursuer after all as his title suggests which he had since the Original, if he didn’t have a single tool (his tentacle hooking with which he dashes via buildings) he would be a bad pursuer.
I see complaining but i see no suggestions. So it would be better if you could make fun of Nemesis like we did with Mr.X in RE2R ? Where his threat was just an illusion, where he was a Tyrant who you could outrun by… walking ?
Luckily the developers saw some Speedruns and nerfed the Knife + buffed the Tyrant because if he was like 2R it would be sad.
Personally in every single encounter i just killed Nemesis and got his Umbrella chest like in the Original to upgrade my stuff.
The only reason to run away is either you fuc?ed up your economy and you can’t kill him or you are Speedrunning.
>Something being common doesn’t automatically make it valid
Nice strawman, not once..i implied that. The fact is that design for Mr X makes no sense in terms of the gameplay loop they are trying to force.
You are aware that the speed of Mr X is that slow, so you can handle better the rooms with lickers on it? that’s how good the design is…at the price of making Mr X a meme.
In the originals MR X was a wall, that you have to shot untill stops or “avoid” him, in Remake 2 is baby Nemesis from original 3. In Remake 3 Nemesis is Mr X from the original RE2, but without any choice of approach (big improvements here, that’s sarcasm by the way)
“the games didnt change, the players did”
What kind of justification is that? the original games and remakes are quite different, besides sharing characters, settings and…the brand.
You want a solution for the lack of Scenario A and B (in ways that differ dramatically from each other?) follow the original!!! make the character zapping system like the original, instead of just replaying the same scenario with a different model and resources + 1 room…but that would cost more money, talent and time…and Capcom clearly is cheap.
About REmake3. of course Nemesis was scripted, it was on a Playstation 1!
But somehow, instead of improving and expand to what they did to Mr X and translate it to Nemesis…they just went the lazy way and did scenario battles, add to that that you have no choices in the encounters, so that kills any replayability…EVERY SINGLE RUN OF THE GAME IS THE SAME. And you couldn’t say the same with the original. Thanks for serving my point.
It’s not about terrible. It’s the worst part about REmake 2 and was done for stupid gen Z kids who never actually played RE before 4.
Nemesis always rewarded you with weapon parts. If you incapacitated him each time he showed up in the original, you made the Eagle.
He’s also exponentially easier in the REmake. Nemesis isn’t nearly worth complaining about though compared to the RE2 tyrant because as I explicitly said multiple times on this website alone – they ruined the game mechanic by using it in RE2 when they shouldn’t have, and it shows. RE3 remake is a joke. On hardcore, I literally didn’t see Nemesis once after the flamethrower fight. Not until the cinematic on the subway.
You are referring to RE3 Nemesis dropping weapons parts to create the Eagle as if he is not doing a similar thing in RE3R where he drops weapons parts to upgrade your Handgun.
Hardcore in RE3R is basically the Standard of older RE titles. Nightmare and Inferno is where the fun begins tbh
RE3 is like the cod clone of resident evil games.
I like stalkers, 3 of them is unprecedented even on dsog.
You one of them.
When they shoot at you, you scream Alah Akhbar and bend over a*s towards the sky.
hehe
you’re obsessed with me.
“That stalker was a Witch that laughs a lot and dissipates into a swarm of insects when you shoot at her.”
Sounds like RESKIN of Marguerite Baker from RE7
I’m really not sure why they’re pushing same ideas over and over again.
They see it worked so f*king well for Ubisoft/Assassins Creed they giving it a try.
Plus remember the “Video Game Industry” has been about jumping into banwagons for years, this should not be a surprise for most.
Yes, but one would think that company has some reputation to live up to, persons who care about more than money. It’s really sad to see it happening more and more. God forbid they try something new.
“According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 8 was originally meant to be Resident Evil Revelations 3. However, and since the “real” Resident Evil 8 game is a few years away, Capcom has decided to re-title Revelations 3 to Resident Evil 8.”
With such integrity as this, how could it possibly go wrong?
“What? RE8 is a few years out? We need a main entry now! Grab that thing over there, ya that one, call that Resident Evil 8. Perfect!”
well, the original RE3 wasn’t meant to be a main entry in the series either. It was a side story to the original RE2, but for similar reasons, was changed into what we now know as the third entry. It didn’t even feature Jill as the main character, she was added after the decision to change the game. We know it was a huge success, so maybe this (rev3 into 8) won’t be a bad thing too
Yea that’s wrong.
RE3 featured Jill always. The rest of what you said was accurate – it was never intended to be a main franchise entry. RE3 was made with leftover parts from RE2 and Capcom explicitly said when it was new that it wasn’t meant to be canon, it was just something they made to make more money and get a Resident Evil title on the market while they were finishing Code Veronica.
Yeah, but I’m pretty sure that Jill wasn’t the original character for the game too, I saw it in an interview with the original directors of the game. She was inserted after they decided to turn it into a main entry, so that it would make more sense for the canon and broaden the game’s appeal
If hallucinations mean parts like Far Cry where I have to push forwards through scripted sequences and the ground shifts around, I’m going to hate it.
I think this series is done now, we are not going to get good games from them anymore, they’ve pretty much managed to ruin the whole series for me.
Let’s make Resident Evil…not Resident Evil.
They could just invent a totally new IP with those ideas, easily.
see this is what i never got, why use a license and not make a new ip, do you have to pay some kinda tax? The answer is they want every tiny bit of money they can squize out of the fans.
Pretty simple, an already established IP/Name is an easier seller, the 2 new ACs are another example, MG Survive too, and even God of War 2018 is somehow in the same case…
You need to pay and wait for appoval to register a new IP or trademark + bribes if you want it Express.
So, why expend extra monies on something new, a risk, when you can ride on the name of something that you know will sell.
This is a simple no brainer for the money men, milking cows they know, is cheap and gives them lots of monies more ofthen than not. Only the madlads among them take risk.
so what about indie devs who make their own small games?
They take the risk.
Some do it out of “passion” or hobby funded by their own pocket. Others go for a cash grab in some form.
And this is where most indie games fall into “passion” projects and crash grabs.
As for doing the registration, legally is not mandatory as far i know but not doing so is like renoucing your rights/ownership of whatever you did.
No big company layer would allow that to happen.
Well I hope is not a 5 hour game with a 60 dollars price tag! RE3R is a real disgrace! And its a shame is rated very positive on Steam.
People are so desperate these days!
How can you give a dumbed down, with cut content, cut bosses, qtes, 5 hour 60 dollars game a positive review is beyond me!
Took me 7h20m to finish RE3R on Normal by doing/exploring almost everything (forgot the blue gem i think in the beginnning and a single lock)
How is the game 5 hours ? If you run by everything perhaps and if you do not consider that it has Hard and Very Hard difficulties with a Shop you can grind etc.
How long was the Original RE3 ? Google suggests 6 hours which out of them easily 90mins were the door loading screens unlike RE3R where every transition is smooth as butter.
Remove the nostalgia glasses for a brief moment.
Nostalgia glasses! Is a rushed out, glorified, shoulda been dlc cash grab! And because of people like you, companies think they can get away with it.
RER2 took my like 20-30 hours, probably close to 70 if i wanted all achievments, and those were 60 bucks well spent. And you are here defending a 7 hours campaign with a crap multiplayer main game.
Nah man I loved RER2. No nostalgia glasses here!
Just not a fan of being robbed. And is my money so why do you care?
Go bend over for capcom and shill somewhere else!
its like shadow of the tomb raider compared to rise of the tomb raider but worse. Kinda like rise of the dark spar compared to fall of cybertron. id compare it with arkham city origins but that game bugs aside had the same gameplay content that arkham city had and good story too.
Can’t be arsed about the Multiplayer its obvious it wasn’t made with the same love as it was with the Campaign. If i wanna play a Multiplayer game there are tons out there, RE is for Singleplayer only.
It took you “70 hours” just because you repeated the game by playing scenario B which was butchered and made no sense compared to the Originals. Like Leon and Claire almost never meet, no radio contact, their paths have not changed etc.
You play with Leon B and you do not see any change in the areas since Claire A was supposed to be there.
Scenario B just has a different beginning the first ~30mins in and then it is just the same with just an additional boss in the end, if this isn’t just an artificial way to expand the game time i do not know what it is. Oh and changing the puzzle’s solutions, wow.
For which i do not mind much, RE3R has this artificial replayability too if you play the game to farm the achievements and buy the stuff from the Shop which is something like Mercenaries if you think about it.
I mean it gives you initiative to play the game and an objective its fine. But do not use this to make RE2R look like Witcher 3 and RE3R look like Ground Zeroes.
Can’t be arsed about Capcom either. Didn’t like either 5, 6 or 7. Remade 2/3 are very good tho, 8/10 for me.
“RE3R has this artificial replayability too”
ahahahahahahaha lol no.
“But do not use this to make RE2R look like Witcher 3 and RE3R look like Ground Zeroes.”
ground zeroes was nolinear with replay value.
Can you even run past enemies? The game is filled with scripted action sequencies and has most puzzles removed. The reason it took you longer is because the game is uber scripted with cutscenes and the levels are not nonlinear that you have to go around to do puzzles, so in the old game you know how to optimize your route and use items where needed, in this one its too scripted and linear so custcenes and scripted events add extra time and the linearity of the levels makes back tracking longer.
No nostalgia graphics the game is the cod of re games.
You pretty much can;’t. I tried – giving zombies a wide berth of five or 6 feet – and they just lunge at you anyway even if you press dodge as you’re passing them.
You can dodge the zombies just fine. I had zero issues doing it, sorry but this is a case of “git gud” on your part.
7hs is still short, specially when you remove locations, path choices and multiple endings…yeah, remember the original game better for a brief moment.
Which location was removed ? Clock tower, but you do not mention what did they add to make it last ~7 hours as i mentioned ? Because if they removed areas and it lasted +5 hours at least they did something
They expanded the Hospital for example. But i see none talking about this. Path choices like in the original would not work this isn’t the 1999, the game is for 2020 and its fast paced.
Path choices, eh meh. It was a pseudoway of just expanding the Original’s game time. What i agree on is the removal of Mercenaries something which i don’t see people compaing about.
I would like to play some Mercenaries on the Remake, like it was on RE4 for example.
I do remember the Original, hell i watch its speedrunning almost daily. Its a ~50min game if you know what to do and if you remove the door loading. Also it has tons of RNG.
they removed puzzles.
Exactly. RE3R has literally ONE puzzle – the subway route.
Every single other puzzle was removed. The water puzzle for the walkways, gone. The battery stuff in the parking garage, gone. The puzzles in the church, gone.
The only “puzzles” in the game were the fuses, and the generators. Absolutely ridiculous.
>at least they did something
This is what i get from every justification you gave, good job aiming to mediocrity, good job.
The hospital map is an insult after they showed what they can do with a map like the police station.
The choices were key to the story telling and replayability, and the game was also focus in action, WTF had to do with the game being action oriented and having choices?
>the game is for 2020
Whats the meaning of this? please explain.
This game should be a DLC for RE2 at a quarter of the price, it seems more like a addition to the Multiplayer game that nobody asked than anything else. They were faithful to the original in one thing tho, it feels rushed as f*ck.
One thing is certain, people still replays the original RE2 and 3 games after decades (hell, i would argue that the Remake of the first game is superior to the original), remakes won’t follow this…i can tell you that.
– Parking garage
– Clock tower
– Bar
– Church
– Subway wreck
All entirely removed or pointless sections of the remake where they did exist.
Dayum! I am missing Fernandos’s one liners already.
In the other hand, nice Job Shill your surely are earning it.
Took me 5 hours WITH pausing constantly for screenshots. And 7 deaths, half of which were because of things like “I didn’t know he could do that.” At least 2 of them were “I didn’t know” – one time because an alpha hunter used its RE1 instakill attack, the other because Nemesis crushed me in the last fight because I assumed he would just punch me.
RE is supposed to be a 2 hour game. People complaining about game length have no idea what game they’re playing. I’m on your side that it’s an invalid argument.
4 hour long, 2 of which are cutscenes, extremely linear and scripted no puzzles, half the game is missing and they ruined jill’s character.
There most definitely aren’t 2 hours of cutscenes in RE3R.
There weren’t even 20 minutes of cutscenes.
there is a youtube video saying “all cutscenes” at 2 hours.
They should give Ethan head this time,so modder can mod this game into third person perspective properly…
How is a game a failure if it sells millions ?
stupid much? All games need to sell millions to stay afloat.
All AAA* titles. Games with lower budgets need not hit incredibly ludicrous sales numbers, see: most Japanese titles, indies, the long forgotten AA scene, etc.
sounds like another rush job like REmake3
My heart can’t take another RE6…oh wait, REmake3 is out…i’m dead.
re6 is better than remake 3, at least it has more variety in situations and its singificantly longer.
Well, to be honest..if you have to choose poison, you would pick the one that kills you faster (given that there’s no antidote)
Agree on the variety, Remake3 even has plenty of zombies from 2 minus the damage system, expected…but not at this lazy level.
At least you can laugh at the absurdity of re 6, while you cringe and facepalm at how mediocre and boring re3 is.
Garbage.
Literally NO ONE asked for this., No one likes this. The people who act like “Mr. X was so brilliant hurr durr” and “Nemesis hurr durr” aren’t Resident Evil fans.
The entire reason Nemesis and the Tyrant in RE2 were scary elements of the game is because y ou didn’t know when they could or would pop up, and when they did it was an emergency. The reason Jack Baker was a good mechanic is because he showed up at scripted moments – not all the time.
In the remakes they are always there. Except Nemesis who doesn’t show up at all until you reach plot milestones.
Just an FYI to all the people disappointed with RE3R.
Jun Takeuchi was the director/producer.
The guy in charge of RE5. So, pretend to be surprised now.
