This mod for The Witcher 3 adds more depth and increases the quality of almost all character faces

Tahril has released an interesting new mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As its title suggests, the “Character faces improved” mod aims to overhaul the game’s character faces. The modder has edited the textures so he can improve the depth and add more details to them.

Now what’s really interesting here is that the modder was able to retain the game’s aesthetics. As such, all of the modded character faces look similar to the original ones. In fact, it’s a bit hard to distinguish the visual differences while playing the game.

However, and in order to provide a proper visual comparison, the modder has shared the following screenshots. As we can clearly see, the textures now have more details at higher resolutions.

In short, this is a mod that even the game’s loyalists fans will appreciate. This mod is around 763MB in size and you can download it from here.

Have fun!

  1. I know is subjective..but calling this an improvement….i dunno, now the characters look like they have aids, like dolls or nothing like the original artist made them to be…

  2. I won’t comment any of the aesthetic choices made in this mod, because that’s subjective.
However, adding light and shadow to an albedo map… well, that’s just madness.

  4. This doesn’t improve anything, it gives every character some ugly white makeup.

Also the moron who made this doesn’t seem to understand how game textures work, he’s painting shading onto diffuse maps, which are supposed to be flat/neutral to work properly.

  5. Thing with w3, while it still packs some awesome graphics, skin is one of those elements that was lacking. Maybe shaders or whatever it always looked “plastic”. A mod alleviates somewhat the issue but acts more of a bandaid rather than a true solution.

  6. This mod is idiotic.

The author added a specular shine to the diffuse texture of the characters faces.

TW3 uses PBR which had a special kind of diffuse texture called an albedo, which is just the diffuse with all the lighting info removed (no shadows or highlights from external light sources).

The mod author doesn’t seem to understand that you’re not supposed to have any lighting info in the diffuse on purpose.

  7. in the tv show
jennefer is supposed to look like a hot middle aged slavic woman yet she looks like a tech support scammer
triss is supposed to look like a hot red head yet she looks like she’d be deported from US
fringilla is supposed to look elegant and slavic yet she looks like she just had her ebola vaccine
sjw at its finest ladies and gentlemen, they didn’t leave even one sorcerer white.

      1. none of these characters are real.
she’s supposed to be older than triss, she’s supposed to have big tyts and be beautiful unlike the sand n*gger who plays her in the show.

        1. I get it, but who cares. She looks good enough. And not supposed to be middle aged. NO way she is middle aged in the game. Anyways, the show has bigger problems like it being boring and sh**ty overacting.
