The team behind BSNES, an emulator for Super Nintendo, has released a brand new version of it. Version 112 comes with overclocking and input latency options. It also comes with a HD Mode 7 setting that lets you improve the visuals of all Mode 7 games.
Going into more details, the overclocking settings allow you to increase the frequency of the CPU, as well as the frequency of the SA-1 and Super FX chips. Theoretically, this should address the framerate issues in most of the SNES games.
I’ve tried these overclocking settings in Jurassic Park and the results were kind of mixed. While the game is really smooth when the CPU is overclocked, it makes the projectiles and dinosaurs move way too fast. The same thing happened in StarFox. However, Doom and Jurassic Park are running really awful on the original SNES hardware. We’re talking about 10fps or something. Seriously, they are almost unplayable. So yeah, BSNES’ overclocking settings are a mixed bag right now. While all the SNES games are now smoother than before, they are in a “fast-forward” mode.
On the other hand, the HD Mode 7 setting is something that most PC gamers should enable. This setting basically increases the internal rendering resolution of Mode 7, resulting in improved graphics.
Last but not least, version 112 introduces the run-ahead setting. This option can reduce input latency, so make sure to use it if your favourite games feel a bit “laggy“. Do note, though, that this setting will increase the PC system requirements for BSNES.

Have fun!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. So many cool features possible with the various console emulators nowadays.
Mods, VR, overclocking and HD Mode 7 for SNES, HD texture packs, AI-enhanced texture packs, HD backgrounds for Sega Saturn, widescreen hacks, 60fps hacks, Nintendo Virtual Boy on a VR headset, improved texture filtering and anti-aliasing and much more.
100% agree it’s pretty freaking amazing and we also have the hardware to back it all now as well(unlike back in the day when the 1st 3D emus hit the scene and no one could run it).
What a time to be alive hey especially for Guys like us that still love the Arcade games and those old days m/ 🙂 m/. The new Gen Emus with the current and old consoles are pretty insane as well, what the Crews have done on the Nintendo front is insane also the PS3 stuff is really crazy too! LOL I still remember when FB Alpha added transparencies to CPS2 games, now look at what others are doing it’s crazy!
Feels good Man.
Too right! The last gaming device I bought was one these little beauties a few months ago…

It emulates a ton of retro consoles and computers. Been having a blast playing classic games from the likes of Amiga, Mega Drive/Genesis, SNES, Atari Lynx, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, some PS1 games, NES, Sega Master System, Neo Geo, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Neo Geo Pocket Color, WonderSwan, Atari 2600, Atari 7800 and more.
As for using PC then it’s impressive to witness how far Cemu has come, how increasingly refined Dolphin is, how RPCS3 and to some extent Xenia also are coming on and the steady progress being made with Yuzu.
Nice, those units are tiny hey. It’s crazy you can pack all those amazing systems on that little device. I will have to get one of those one of these days it’s on My list. My friend did that with His PS Vita.
Yeah the PC scene is crazy, I am sure in a few years everything will be emulated which we thought would be impossible or not able to run on our comps. PC hardware is pretty insane right now since we have the power so emulation has not many road blocks in hardware.
Well enjoy your new LDK 🙂
The name is just perfect :).
