Microsoft has fixed the Cortana High CPU usage bug, addresses new security vulnerabilities

Earlier this month, we informed you about an optional update for Windows 10 that caused high CPU usage on some systems. Thankfully, Microsoft has just released a new update that addresses that Cortana high CPU usage bug.

As Microsoft noted:

“Windows Desktop Search may not return any results and SearchUI.exe may have high CPU usage after installing KB4512941.

Fixed on Sept 10: Addresses an issue that causes high CPU usage from SearchUI.exe for a small number of users. This issue only occurs on devices that have disabled searching the web using Windows Desktop Search.”

Moreover, Microsoft has addressed some new security vulnerabilities. As the company stated, the Windows 10 KB4515384 update provides protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities are known as Microarchitectural Data Sampling, and affect the 32-Bit versions of Windows. Thus, owners of 64-bit versions of Windows 10 are already safe from them.

Lastly, Microsoft has released security updates for some of its programs. These include: Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, and more.

It’s also worth mentioning that Microsoft has addressed two zero-day security vulnerabilities. These two vulnerabilities are elevation of privilege (EoP) flaws. The first one impacts the Windows Common Log File System (CLFS) driver while the second impacts the ws2ifsl.sys (Winsock) service.

As always, users can install the KB4515384 update via Windows 10’s Update system. All you have to do is check for new updates, and let Windows 10 download it. Alternatively, you can install it manually via Microsoft’s website.
