Half Life fans, here is something for you today. I know that a lot are still waiting for Half Life and while I’m certain that we won’t get Half-Life 3, a new game based on its universe may come out. Gabe Newell has been answering a lot of emails lately and has confirmed that a new Half Life game may be released in 4-5 years.
When a fan asked Gabe Newell whether he would ever play a new chapter of Half-Life before he dies, Newell responded by saying.
“Just don’t die in the next 5 years or so ;)”
It’s well known that Newell is not trolling his fans when it comes to Half-Life so I guess Valve is indeed working on a Half-Life game. However, I’d recommend tempering your expectations as this could be a simple VR version of an older Half-Life game or a spin-off (similar to Bridge Constructor for example).
When another fan asked what is Gabe currently playing, Valve’s founder responded by saying that he’s playing DOTA, Cultist Simulator, Automation/BeamNG, Resident Evil 2 Remake and unannounced Valve games. Gabe did not clarify on these unannounced games that Valve is working on but perhaps one of them is the Half-Life game?
Gabe Newell also re-confirmed that the three VR games – which have been revealed in 2017 to be under development – are still coming.
UPDATE:
Tyler McVicker, founder and solo producer of Valve News Network, has stated that Gabe’s email about the new Half-Life game was faked. According to Tyler, the only email that was faked was the last one so don’t expect a new Half-Life game in the next five years.
As of now, two people were confirmed by Gabe that the "5 Years" E-Mail was faked. I'll be removing the section of the video that involves the email, changing the videos title and description, along with removing tweets related to it.

I’m not, VR is great. I mainly use it for racing sims and can’t go back now. Visual quality depends on your PC. I’m guessing its pretty expensive to buy a 1080ti and i7 in Afghanibumfukland so I can understand your point of view.

Half life 2 is one of the best videogame ever made, regardless how much you like it or not, and there’s literally no “matter of opinion” here.

You’re talking about a videogame which came out in 2004, which was developed in the years before, there was nothing like it or even close to it for many years in many things, it was a bunch of very good things put together, but if we take any of those things individually you could find better, just not that easily, neither after nor before.
The only thing Half Life 2 did that other FPS games did not at the time was implement a pretty good physics system into the game and develop some visuals techniques including face mocap.
The shooting is awful, the vehicles were done better by Halo, most enemies are bulletsponges unless you use the physics engine and it feels unfinished in some sections, likely due to a hasty release after the Source code got leaked.

The vehicles were done good enough and they fit perfectly into what’s the game and how it’s designed. The source engine leak was before that, and that version of HL2 was basically deleted and remade completely.
HL2 is in the top5 of last 20 years’ best no doubt and people stop talking out of your a** you’re just proving your knowledge of this world is very poor.

HL2 was a masterpiece, end of story. Stop trying to find games that have a better vehicles component or shooting component better, i don’t care if halo has better vehicles, the rest of halo is way worse than what HL2 has, and i don’t care if doom had or has a better shooting component, it’s a fraction of what HL2 is.

HL2 isn’t only a FPS, like those you mentioned, 80% of those you mentioned are arena FPS with linear campaign and no story no npc, basic level design, etc…HL1 reinvented the genre, there was nothing like it back then, and the same thing did HL2, that’s a way bigger and complex game to compare with quake, doom wolfenstein or unreal.
Fear is good but it’s nothing close to HL2 in everything, it came out later, and it was technically worse, the only thing it had better was probably AI the rest is just BS level design and complexity is another planet on HL2, gunplay was only a bit more exaggerated and spectacular, not better.

Nahhh HL2 is one of the best games ever made. The only complaint that I can find is that when other people were “helping me” they were a pain because they sometimes blocked me from movement in tight corridors when it was important that I be able to move quickly.

Nah, that’s Destiny, Uncharted, The Last of Us and any Rockstar game ever made.
I played destiny 2 recently in coop and honestly: Oh my god how boring can one game be. Shooting okay, graphics really nice everything else above and beyond pointless. Also tried Last of Us: I am just too retarded to play these games with controller. But Rockstar games: Hold up now you’re gone too far or being salty because of certain RDR has not released on our system. Hopefully yet.
Played every GTA, Max Payne 3, Bully, GTA Stories, Manhunt and Red Dead Redemption.
Rockstar is overrated as f*k.
What to you like to play then ? Just want to know what’s a good game by your standard.

GabeN has been doing weird sh*t like Dota and Artifact forever now – so for me I dont think it’s possible anymore. Pretty sure that core team is long gone so it will be another Bioware situation. And even if they could and it’s really going to live up to HL3, it had better blow the minds of those who have been blowing minds.
For now, I am not getting my hopes up and I’ll be interested when there is something concrete vs PR. No gameplay or it doesn’t exist. Just PR crumbs for the snarling wolves – which wont last long.

Regardless a hyphotetical Half Life 3 probably wouldn’t be very good or anything like the first two which were already quite different from each other, most of the old blood from Valve is gone.

I wouldn’t equate that with HL3. Micro$hit has openly said they are focusing more on the PC as of late and Halo is a guaranteed money maker for them. As of the update, a legit HL3 still probably won’t be released until deep into the next gen.
It means 4-5, next gen in mind. 0-1 would be current gen, they won’t do that.
Besides that, it’s obvious gabe used that to troll everyone, just like it was in the past.
