Monster Hunter World has already set three records on the PC, biggest Steam launch in 2018

Monster Hunter World has just been released on the PC and it has already set three new records on Steam. According to its stats, Capcom’s monster hunting title is the biggest launch for a Japanese title in Steam’s history.

Monster Hunter World currently has more than 240K concurrent players, surpassing Dark Souls 3 which held that record with 129K concurrent players.

Monster Hunter World is also the biggest Steam launch in 2018, surpassing Kingdom Come Deliverance which was the previous biggest launch on Steam in 2018 with 95K concurrent players.

Last but not least, Monster Hunter World is Capcom’s biggest PC launch ever. Guess that the presence of Denuvo was not enough after all to put off those PC gamers that were thirsty for this kind of games.

  1. Lol, half of the people i know dont even care or know what Denuvo is. I actually just for a test asked like 50 people on my steam account,(out of 1000) cuz i cant be bothered to ask more, and none of them had any idea about it. It was just the top level people and the people with most games.

People with 200+ games on Steam, not some casual people that buy 1 or 2 every 10 years. The reason i hear about it was the Witcher 2 and 3 (Devs were bragging how they had no protection)

    1. A casual player is not someone who buy few games is just someone who buy casual games (simple and easy games)

    2. Most people don’t care about the technical details of video games from what I’ve found talking to them and getting into arguments with people over the technical side of video games.

I’ve spoken to five people who’ve been playing games for over two decades, and I found that they known borderline nothing about the technical aspects of video games. These are guys who purchase high end hardware too, they legitimately know nothing about video games outside of what the games about. They couldn’t explain what a frame-rate is, what frame-time is, or why they both matter. They don’t even know what the graphics options actually mean, or why some of them matter.

This isn’t a surprise to me at all that the people you know don’t know what Denuvo is, because it’s not a big deal to anybody who doesn’t focus on the technical aspects of gaming. DRM has never been a big deal to anybody but the technical minded people.

      1. They wont care and they wont know until someday, they want to play one game and they will not be able to play it.
Did people care about the state of GFWL and the future of the platform when it was running five years ago? THey didnt, they started to care the day they tried to log on and the platform was gone.
Does people care about 46% of potable water has been gone in the last 20 years? No, they dont know because they dont care until the day they dont have any water to drink.

      2. Yeah same. Thats all i was saying myself actually. I just replied how i know people that cant install a game that literally wants you to click install and done.. People with good computers, tons of games (both on steam and other places)

I dont blame them or judge them but yea.. thats how things are. Its a shame, cuz its not that hard to read here and there. I learn it all by myself too. My friends refuse to even read the gfx options, and every time i tell a few of them.. they can make the game better looking and still hit 60 fps (cuz they play on med, instead of high) they REFUSE to even go to the option menu ;p I got stories that will shock you too 🙂

    3. I have more than 200 games on steam, getting to 300 and I do care about Denuvo because I want to play any of those 300 games in the future without worrying about if Denuvo servers are still up for then.
The fact your friends are just a bunch of corporate sheeps doesnt speak well of you or your friends, Actually If I ask my Steam friends about what IMF is, 3/4 of them will not know what it is, when technically is an International Organization which is convincing governments to extend jubilation age.
Does the fact that most of my friends ignores this makes the fact we have to work until we die a good thing?
I didnt know ignorance make despicable things good, 90% of my Steam friends doesnt know about bombings on Syria and Yemen, the other 10% doesnt give a kr4p so I think that makes those bombings a good thing, right?
Dont judge me, its your flaw logic.
I really would like to see your answer, how ignorance makes bad things good, explain me this please.

      1. Well, i dont defend anyone. What im saying here is: don’t be too shocked (you and the article maker) why the game is selling so well even with Denuvo. Some people dont care, some dont know, some boycott it and ignore protected games with Denuvo (aka avoiding them) and others just want to play games cuz steam makes it super easy. You will be shocked how many console people went to PC cuz of steam. Cuz of cheap games. Cuz of sales. Cuz its pretty much plug and play now. You find a game, click install and done. Valve made PC gaming easy for everyone i guess, and that means.. alot of people that are not computer friendly are on Steam. Thats what i was saying i guess. It’s not too shocking.

I mean, if they add it to Battlefield 5 (will it have it?) I’m sure it will still sell a TON of copies… On top of Denuvo, EA is pure evil..
I usually avoid EA games, cuz they pissed me off with the death of Dead Space and C&C.

P.s. I actually have friends that can’t even install a game, that literally says.. install.. next.. next.. pick a folder.. next.. done. They CAN’T 😀

    4. Lets make an example of this, ask your friends if they know what climate change is and if they care…

      1. Well, considering how this year.. the summer just came, like this week.. and its august, people are starting to wonder about the climate ;p

But ye, knowing my closer friends, if the game works properly, they wont care (if it hits 60 fps i guess) Can’t speak for the rest tho

      1. Yes, World is a dumbed down monster hunter, that’s why is so popular in the west right now. Capcom casualized everything in World to appeal casual audiences.

I’m very salty about that because I really liked the MH series

  2. “. Guess that the presence of Denuvo was not enough after all to put off those PC gamers that were thirsty for this kind of games.”

The performance is the problem, you could say denuvo is responsible for it, but its a mp game filled with issues like many other mp games.

  3. Yet Capcom delayed this release for the PC I just don’t understand it why couldn’t this game also come out on the same day as the console it would have sold just as well I just don’t get it with these companies man look at Red Dead Redemption you don’t think that’s going to sell like crazy on the PC but yet there’s not even released yet

  4. PC gamers are so hateful towards monsters. It’s sad. Monsters just want to share their culture with us by killing us.

  5. I’m NoT bUyInG DeNuVo gAmEs! lol with Denuvo or not games well sell well. Now stop hating on Denuvo cause it does nothing to performance..

      1. i’m happy as long as you can’t torrent games anymore you scum XD Denuvo will stay and you really have to deal with it for now…

  6. It’s almost as if they couldn’t care less about the Denuvo whiners. Guess they’ll have to pirate some other game.

  7. This game is brainless, the monster design is amazing and the cat helper is pretty cool but technically the gameplay is a eternal grinding for materials and items.
Sorry if this sheeps will be surprised when in the next years if they cant play the game because Denuvo servers arent there.
After seeing how much PUBG has sold and how much money Fortnite does on PC, Im not surprised. PUBG just sold 27Millions of copies without needing DENUVO, so does that mean people actually care about Denuvo? Just using Denuvo lovers logic.

  8. It has also set a new record for being the biggest CPU burn-in test with 3d visuals in history. Congrats CAPCOM!

  9. I read they needed more time to optimize the game to take full advantage of 32-cores with HT to have parity between the PC and console.
