Square Enix has released a brand new update for Final Fantasy XV. According to the release notes, this patch adds support for AMD Phenom II processors and fixes some bug issues with NVIDIA’s Ansel tech. Furthermore, this patch also – partially – fixes the performance degradation issues we’ve already reported.
Now the reason we’re saying that the performance degradation issues have been partially fixed is because these issues remain when the high-resolution texture pack is enabled. Without it, the game now runs completely fine, even after more than 30 minutes of gameplay.
As we’ve already said, this issue is re-producible. As such, we’ll share a video this weekend showcasing that performance degradation issue.
This update will be auto-downloaded from Steam, and you can find its complete changelog below.

It’s funny how SE is doing patches for this game like any normal developer would… Yet I still don’t think Nier has had 1 single patch on PC yet…
You know what’s even funnier? The fact that they have patched the Steam version of Final Fantasy XV, but not the Origin version.
That all comes down to EA btw… Kinda like how GoG has the 64 bit version of Crysis but Steam or Origin do not.
They might be forgot that PC version exist…
I wonder why. Do they think the PC version is good enough being on par with the console? Were sales poor on PC? Did they simply contract Nier out and that studio no longer has access to the game?
the performance degradation while playing is the main reason im holding on buying the game, thank you for keeping us posted John!
you really do notice a difference. I have been shocked really. Now I just need a newer GPU to get the game to play maxed out and hit at least 60 fps for the min
they need to fix the memory leak next, DSO does this mem leak happens on the pirate/no denuvo ver. too?
i don’t know if it’s a memory leak, but the game just stutters into oblivion in my rig regardless of graphic quality
is this a joke? can phenom 2 even run this game?
According to official specs, Phenom II CPU is below the min system requirements, because of lack of instruction set support, but if the Devs have now added compatibility, then it seems that this processor will run the game.
There might be performance degradation though, depending on what settings the game is being played on, imo.
Phenom IIx 4 and x6 run game just as well as the FX 4000 and 6000 lines and many people have those chips. however i wouldnt combo this cpu with anything higher than say a 1050ti.
I just happen to have upgraded from a 1050ti to a 1070 with a phenomx4. I expected to have to upgrade my rig after that, but I got a very decent boost to performance on recent games. This just shows CPUs are very overrated nowadays, and a good phenom is still enough for a few more years.
I’m really struggling to notice… oh i did notice the shadow in that ornament lol
This game actually requires SSE4.1 instruction set support, which Phenom CPU´s lack, but I will credit Square Enix for this patch, for enabling the support on older gen CPUs.
AMD Phenom II users don’t have to upgrade now, just to play this game, though I don’t find this as an excuse for not supporting a 10 year CPU, just because of instruction set.
Btw, all processors listed on the “system requirements” page support SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and base AVX set, of which the Phenom II supports neither.
So it doesn’t seem to be the developer’s fault.
Though, it’s kind of odd, because lot of peeps are still on old Hardware, but it is not impossible to implement instruction set support either, as Square Enix just did via this patch.
Well why need to Upgrade though. Yes those Cpu’s are old, but still have enough Horsepower to play these games if they add SSE support which Apperently is not a Miracle to do !
That’s what I was also trying to say as well, the exact same point, but in a different way.
