Max Payne 2 feature

Take a look at Max Payne 2 with RTX Remix Path Tracing

Here is something for our Max Payne fans. YouTube’s ‘Digital Floundry’ (I know, catchy name, but he should be careful otherwise Digital Foundry may close his account) is currently working on an RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne 2.

So far, the modder has finished the Prologue. Every texture has been upscaled four times with PBR materials like height, shine, roughness, normal, glow, and metallic effects. The modder is also almost done with Chapter 1 (the warehouse level).

As always, do note that everything you are about to see is a WIP. The mod is in a very early dev stage. Still, it looks really cool, which is why I’ve decided to share it with you.

Digital Floundry is also working on an RTX Remix Mod for Dead to Rights. He’ll soon post a demo for it, and I’ll be sure to share it with you once it’s out. Until then, you can watch two videos from it.

Digital Floundry used to go by the name Digital Clowntree. He’s the same person who made the RTX Remix Mod for American McGee’s Alice. I’m not sure why he changed his YouTube name. I honestly liked the old one better. The new name kind of makes his channel feel like a DF knockoff. Anyway, the important part is that the demo for the American McGee’s Alice RTX Remix Mod is now out, and you can download it from this link.

These past few weeks, we’ve shared a lot of RTX Remix Mods. So, you can find mods for Black MesaStar Wars Republic CommandoNFS: Underground, and Manhunt. You can also find some for BioShockMorrowindNFS: Underground 2Star Wars Jedi OutcastMax PayneUnreal, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.

In January 2024, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2,  Grand Theft Auto: Vice CityManhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most WantedTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, and Midnight Club 2. Be sure to also check out some early RTX Remix videos and screenshots for Fallout: New VegasTom Clancy’s Splinter CellCOD 2, and Half-Life.

Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus ExTomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for Painkiller and Left 4 Dead 2. Oh, and don’t forget to try this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Lastly, you can download these amazing Path Tracing Mods for DoomDoom 2Quake, and Serious Sam.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

    1. They're still working on them from what I've read, which was one of the reasons I held off on working on these games but Remedy is just taking too long

    2. They're still on the way yeah, I think they were mentioned on a recent T2 investor call. It's remedy working on them but I think they only started on the project once Alan Wake 2 had launched and I'd imagine their live service meme game has drawn away some of their resources.

  1. i love how it makes every ps2 game look like doom 3 and chronicles of riddick. Also lol at digital foundry having a video of a raytraced stripper.

    1. lol I was thinking the exact same thing as I was uploading this video.. though the DF parody of the channel name and that I'm floundering to make these sh**ty mods seems to be lost on most people and just think it's a SEO trick to get clicks.

  2. Has anyone actually finished a full game with Remix yet? All kinds of demos but I haven't seen anything "go gold" ……

    1. It's because practically every game you try to use Remix on ends up being fundamentally broken in some way so they cherry pick parts of the game that they can make look really good and put "demos" out. It's what I ended up having to do with Alice as the rest of that game is a lost cause until someone with the right coding knowledge decides to create a custom OpenGL to Direct X wrapper to fix it..

  3. Thank again John for posting about my mods! I'll post more Max Payne 2 videos and a demo if anyone wants.

Honestly initially held off on working on this game as there's another modder that's been posting updates on the RTX Remix discord channel for years now and I believe they're already almost done with the whole game..but I got impatient and did the first 2 levels over the weekend thus it looks rushed.

  4. Max Payne looks like a plastic doll. no PBR material, no subsurface scattering and no tessellation. Looks awful to me

    1. I did give his clothes PBR materials but removed the roughness map from his face/hair texture as it was making him look plastic. If you apply "tessellation" to characters it causes the 3d model/mesh to be misaligned and they end up looking glitched. Still trying to figure out how to generate proper subsurface scattering and diffusion maps for skin and marble surfaces etc..

  5. Welp YT banned my channel and apparently any future channels I attempt to make because I apparently wasn't explicitly clear enough in my bio that I wasn't affiliated with Digital Foundry in any way.. So kind of lost all motivation work on any mods further if I can't share them with people
