I really want to believe in this game but i remain sceptical about the devs ability to release this gane with all their promises
Well, you’ll be able to play all this in 3.0, they have delivered up to now, the alpha 2.4 does what the said it did. Go and land on a asteroid and fight on it if you want in zero G.
Quite fun!
The ambition and dedication are undeniables, I egoistically hope it does come together at the end.
I want this game.
My GTX1080 needs it.
By the time this game releases your 1080 will be obsolete. This is a game being built for the hardware of the future and I love them for that. This is the first real PC game since the original Crysis.
You know that this game is developed by old crytek team dont you ? (pre-Crysis2) XD
When will this game finally be “released”?
The campaign is supposed to release by the end of this year though I’d bet it’ll be the start of next year.
The MMO persistent universe will release mid 2018 best case scenario in my opinion.
Been a backer since the 26million mark. They’ve made such progress. Although, i find the development cycle quite long. Have to say that because of the scope of the game, it HAS to take time i guess.
Explain to me how fast the development of an MMO with a persistent universe set in an entire Galaxy that you can fully explore with graphics and environment detail that pretty much rivals or beats most AAA single player games, is supposed to be?
Not to mention that they’ve rewritten most of CryEngine in order to support all of this.
Even the smallest things such as ships having their independent gravity is amazing and incredibly difficult to program, it’s nothing short of amazing.
My whole comment got deleted i don’t know why. But bottom line i’m not trashing the game. On the contrary, i find this to be quite a very nice game and i truly hope people do not loose interest if the game takes another 1-2years of development.
wow this shithe is still alive? good.
KYS.
You must be HVD’s brother. No doubt.
What’s this running on x4 1080s?
Nvidia dropped offcial support for quad SLI on pascals.
i was ironic either way 🙂
That’s sarcasm.
Not going to argue with you there, there’s a fine line between the two.
No there isn’t.
It’s clear to me that you haven’t read any books.
It’s the netcode, has nothing to do with the power of your GPU in a way, everyone has bad framerates in the persistent universe at the moment.
They’ve been having bad fps for two years straight now.
You don’t know much about game development do you? The studio started from scratch, they have studios in various counties now all working together on the game and getting better with the design pipline with each release, faster. It’s not like Ubisoft where they have 800 people already setup to develop a game, have all the fundamental things ready and can pump out games every year because of it.
The performance issues are lot to do with the alpha netcode, if you go into the hanger or single player simulation dogfight module you will get good performance
I know that he raised 126M and never gave us a finished product. And that’s pretty much all I need to know. Most of that money went into his pocket, trips, expensive lifestyle. And don’t you f*cking deny that cause you’ll admit to being a stuck up fan.
Do you have proof of what you’re saying ? I mean not just forum garbage but real actual proof of ROBERT being on a 500 000$ boat with 5000$ champagne bottles and driving 3 lambos ?!?. We cannot say for sure that he’s not keeping money but the other way around is also true. Plz. Are you aware of the cost of such a team like his ? The many offices, the daily expenses, the hardware, the staff. At the end of the day, from the millions et got from backers there won’t be tens of millions for his paycheck. HE DESERVES money , and a good chunk of it just for the principle that he sent the finger to publishers. Just for that, he could take 10mils and imd still be okay with it.
I hate them so much.
I did not go into specifics. I was a co-founder and i know what goes down with the funds and angel investors and so on.
You have to understand the truth is right at the centre of all this.
Because every single kickstarter is a cash grabber a-hole who’s going to gtfo with everybody’s money?
No, i was talking solely about this one. Since it single handily grabbed all that cash.
You were co-founder on SC ?
Mind boggling i know 🙂
Why did you leave.
Ubi games are just copy and paste.
Cough cough…
Assassin’s creed

Far cry4/primal
Seriously they use the same assets, what’s hard about that ? Plus they’re using the same engine everytime. On the other hand, everything CIG does they’re the first to do it (with cry engine). So yea…. I think it’s pretty clear.
I see, I did not know that. Will it have a solo campaign though? The reason I’m saying this is, it seems Mr Roberts here is focused solely on the MP.
Have you read anything about SC before actually posting here ? Squadron 42 has been there since the beginning and is a big part of the project.
“It seems Mr Robets here is focused solely on the MP.”
Dude, they’re even getting the single portion before the multiplayer one. They have nothing to gain from releasing the single portion first, besides respect and fan’s joy. Think about it, you’d be better off rushing the MP portion and start charging monthly fees asap (i think this is going to happen but that’s my opinion). Plus once the single portion is gone gold, re-routing workflow towards the PU will be much appreciated.
Respect? What are you talking about? It’s a consumer’s society and people have payed millions and still are waiting for their end product
To quote olek.
” people that have pledged for this game know it is going to take time”
The scope is so big that it is literally in a category of it’s own.
When i said respect i meant that many game (R6:Siege for example) do not have any single player portion which is a real bummer. Respect wasn’t a good word i’ll give you that. CIG will deliver and all haters will just keep on hatin’. Because haters just…. Hate for no reason.
I’m not hating, I actually want to see this game delivered.
Good then why the bashing ?
Not to mention the prices on each ship. That really pissed me off. That guy is a thief.
Not to mention the prices on each ship. That really pissed me off. That guy is a thief. A well worshipped thief.
I don’t know how some people are this stupid, but I know there are many that feel the same way I do.
What is up with the ship prices ? If you can’t pay then don’t buy them ? Bunch of people bought 300+usd ship because they can. Do you get pissed when you see a dude in a lambo that you can’t buy too? …
Capitalism.
No cause I got a F80 2014 🙂
Good. Is your last name may***** ?
holy fck! a easy bet on GOTY! haha
goVEGAN
And people wonder why vegans are so hated…
*throws bacon at you*
This is the next level of gaming that PC platform deserve.
Annnnnd jaw hits the floor.
I only wish cockpit UI were more physical. Real gauges, knobs etc. would be way more exciting and immersive.
I can’t see why that would be, since in future spaceships everything would be controller via ECU anyway
Looks great but it’s an MMO moving on.
squadron-42 is the single player experience.
Not really an MMO, it is a PU (Persistent Universe). It is the difference between a singleplayer campaign where you go to set locations during certain points of a story versus just being in the world (or universe) and doing whatever you so please.
This also happens to share the same space with other players, but not really on a massive scale like most MMOs. I doubt you will run into other players constantly, and unlike WoW or other mmos where everyone is on one server all at once. People will be in broken off instances that only MIGHT mesh together while occupying the same space based on instances (unless they are on your friends list, in which they will every time). I can’t confirm this 100%, but this is just my understanding on how the PU is supposed to work.

What? The stuff shown in this presentation is scheduled to be in the 3.0 update which will include a lot more other stuff, before the end of this year.
Who exactly is going to lose interest? This is the most ambitious game ever and the market hungers for a game like this, especially after the No Man’s Lies failure and scam.
Also understand that the game as we know it has only been in development for little over 1.5 years, Roberts opened the first studio comprised of a dozen people in 2014, before that the game wasn’t even expected to be same thing it is now.
When it takes a long time people might find other things to do or other games to play, i am not saying everybody will do that. 3.0 is yet another update indeed, one we all want but it is still not the full version. If i am not mistaken, the original release date has been pushed back and the actual release date is probably subject to change. My point is that it takes alot of time, it’s okay since i really love where they’re going with this and from the backers logs, i am not the only one who does but in the end were all eager to play squadron 42 or it’s multiplayer counterpart. From a quick search i found that the hangar module had been released in august 2013, which means it probably was in development end of 2012/early 2013. I think it was at the gamescom show that year that they first showed us the hangar. So it’s been 3 years and a half approximately. Yes the game is ambitious and there see tremendou amount of efforts being put into it. I read many “comms link” and i really like to read monthly reports from all the studios too yet there is still alot of work on the table. And knowing how chris is, this game won’t come out until IT IS how he wants it to be, which is the best thing that can happen, we don’t need half baked games like NMS or any other rushed products.
On another note, have you tried star marine ? I’ve had much fun with it! If you’re early backer enough (account #) you can play and god damn that module is better than soooo many fps we see these days. I expect the same quality from the whole persisten universe.
The release date was pushed back because they got more money than expected and expanded the vision of the game.
The original concept of the game was supposed to just be something similar to Roberts’ first games, just dogfighting in space.
They only opened their studio officially and got their first office in early 2014. And that was a dozen people originally, after a few months it was like 60, then it kept growing.
It’s not been in development by its current 200 employees or whatever for all this time.
I don’t understand at all the stuff you’re saying about losing interest. People back this game knowing it will take long to release, if not then they didn’t read anything. The forums alone have like 100k active posters, maybe more by now.
Ohh you are so right i totally forgot about that. I remember reading it somewhere in the comms link or monthly reports. Damn, my bad about the current development time. People who backed (haven’t precised) might not loose interest since they gave their money knowing that one day it’ll be out. My point is about the ones that haven’t backed and are looking at Star Citizen, not knowing if they’ll get it or not. If you take alot of time developping the product etc, you’ll end up having competition from other studios (NMS, Elite dangerous etc.) while they do not offer the same gameplay as SC does, maybe a bunch of people will get their “space dose” from theses games instead of waiting for SC. It’s all hypothetical, i cannot know that information for sure. SC will imo be for hardcore gamers that like space and mmos, people that are just interested in the dog fighting or star marine will weight in if it’s a good move or not to buy the game and put so much time into it since you know it’s a mmo. I truly wonder how many copies will be sold once the game gets gold.
It was put to the backers, at around $26 million, when it became fully crowdfunded, did they want to stick with the original goals, and stop fundraising, or expand the project to take account of it’s continued fundraising.
Only 5% wanted the original plan, and a whopping 88% said make the best space sim ever made.
I only back fully crowdfunded games, so it was at $40 million when I backed with a $125 Freelancer, enhanced to the Explorer variant for another $20, so great to see it playable at last, it looks a lot wider cockpit than the hanger version.
In reponse to the get tired comments above, I don’t play the alpha’s, and don’t care how long it takes. I want it done right, not fast.
Each update gives me more and more confidence that, it’s going to be right.
Even if the project eventually fails, this is the one game, I’ve backed where I can see where the money is spent.
Most gamers have no comprehension of how long these games actually take to make, and being at the cutting edge of what PC’s can do, at least doubles that time.
When it’s ready, I will be eager to be in the verse, however long that may take.
Elite is painfully boring, I would call it a prettier version of NMS with some more depth. I don’t see how it’ll eventually become similar to SC.
Is Elite’s goal to become like SC? Are they realy reaching for that ?.
Just watched a little bit of ED. The dog fighting seems more arcady. It’s meh overall.
Yea it feels very real. Not that i ever flew a damn spaceship but you know “the physics”
“Arcady”? I think you never played the game at all, and also the game has “Flight assists” activated which helps to control your ship but an experienced pilot without using them (by just pressing a button) can do things like this (that looks far from boring):
youtube (.) com/watch?v=82lCPXm5suU
And also at the time of piloting you have to control your main systems (shields, engine and weapons) on the fly, use subsystems to avoid overheat which you have to activate also manually on the fly so your modules won’t get destroyed, then you have countermeasures and such as well.
And physics, people has the idea that ships in Elite fly like “WWII planes” but they have no clue that in Elite while in “normal flight” you are travelling in meters per second (so like the ship in this video was flying way above 1800km/h), the thing is that it seems “slow” because in Elite the vast scale of the galaxy and the whole environment where you are moving all the time, is so massive that it looks like you are moving slow (space is huge you know).
When combat starts in point “A”, at the end of it you always end up kilometers away from it (around 15/20 or more, depending how the other pilot flies of course). But of course it is space and you have no idea how much of an area it takes you to move and maneuver with your ship.
And again about the “arcady” thing, both Elite and Star Citizen base their physics in real Newtonian physics, but both models (for the sake of gameplay) are not even close as to what an actual realistic model of Newtonian physics works in real life.
Elite and Star Citizen use Sci-Fi unrealistic mechanics to fly between stars, and around systems, heck even SC has a “spacebreak” (like a handbreak in a car, lol) and some other stuff. Then the jumping to one planet to another and break in a second and such is not realistic if you have in consideration mass and inertia alone, etc. (flying at those speeds and then slow down instantly in never realistic at all, not in Sci-Fi movies not in games, not possible to brake in space in a short distance…it will take A LOT of a distance to slow down)
If you really really want something emulating the real world and proper use of Newtonian Physics, go watch some gameplay from a simulator called “Rogue System” (which is going to use combat based in the same model).
One guy alone is making it and he works for racing simulator called rFactor 2 which is one of the most realistic in the market when it comes to physics and tyre model.
Some of you really have no idea about what are you talking about.
Also in Elite aside from combat, when you “enter” in a planet the flight model changes drastically and you feel how the gravity of the planet is pulling your ship down, and also the thrusters are working all the time to keep your ship flying straight to keep an altitude, is not that it flies like a plane like some people think. It does have a computer that help the ship.
Also gravity in planets vary…if you end up in a planet with 6G’s, your ship goes down like a brick. (call that “unrealistic”)
Once they add atmospheric flight (which they want it to do it right), it will also be drag and stuff like that aside from gravity.
Not sure where people get that “arcade” thing about Elite…I like games where proper physics works…If Elite was crap in that regard I would probably be the first to come here and say it.
In the other hand in the current state of how physics are in Star Citizen, I mean in a pre-alpha build, people really think that physics are finished, polished or completed at all? I also own the game and can say that not at all.
There is a long way to go in this matter and sure they are going to work with them as well, since in 2.6 Arena Commander they are going to add improvements to the physics.
Lucky me…I like both games and I am objective, own both and know the main differences between them but I really hate when fanboys from one or the other talk simple and plain bs.
People confuse what “they like” to what “they don’t” and use the wrong term to describe how something feel to them, and then they confuse “what is” and “what is not”.
In resume, the real deal here is to say that both Elite and Star Citizen are Sci-Fi GAMES, and both are arcade with little touches of “realism” using different mechanics, basing it all in how it probably should work in real life.
And then there is the scale of one game to the other (talking about distances in space, the size of everything, how physics and the rest is applied to the world…both are plain different.
Rogue System in the other hand is a proper simulator, still a game though, but in the way how things work, is actually the “real deal” when it comes to space travel in the future. It uses what we know of the real world but with a futuristic ship capable of flying around space.
Want to see how boring that actually is but how engaging can it be? Do some research. 😉
Hello,
Star marine is 2.6 for general public (late backers etc). People with ptu have enjoyed star marine already. If you have backed, check if you are elligible.
Good argument on the rest.
Yes you are right. I didn’t specify. You can use guns since 2.0.0 or something like that but it is not star marine. 2.6 is the full star marine module on ptu. What we’ve experienced so far is just a small portion yet so much better than many fps.
God i’m full of ****…
Yea mb. Can’t wait though ;).
This is the stream VOD.
Look on their channel there’s the full recorded presentation from the source…
Link? 🙂
Seriously it’s the same channel that the above video is on.
Whaaat? Olek is actually nice and helpful. Pinch me! Am I dreaming? There is a god!
That motherf*cker is just horrible. It’s like he’s got his period everyday!
I can’t describe how impressed I am by watching this video… The work they have done/are doing on Star Citizen makes other AAA titles look almost like Indie games. This is what makes PC gaming the number One platform for any Devs. that want to truly show what kind of talent they really have.
If AAA devs actually fully cared about all of their games along with allocating the budget properly rather than blowing most on marketing, then they would be in a much better place in terms of quality, well that and if they stopped targeting low end hardware a lot of the time.
I remember the sony fanboys were like “who cares about your little indie game” meaning star citizen, who is laughing now eh?
Honestly, if this game wasn’t on the PS4 I truly think it would have turned out better, then Sony got their dirty hands on it.
This is the reason I got back to PC gaming. As much as I appreciate the smaller games and multiplatform releases, I got into the PC platform due to the cutting edge and innovative titles that can’t be played elsewhere. I felt a bit disheartened after seeing such drastic change in the industry the moment publishers started favouring consoles over anything else, causing major compromises when it comes to quality on all aspects.
I really hope that the majority of PC gamers realise how special this one game is as it comes together. As always I’m just glad I’ve been part of making this game a reality for while now 😛
