Overwatch 2 feature 2

Here’s what Overwatch 2 could look like in Unreal Engine 5

YouTube’s ‘ARSHER’ has shared a cool video in which he has ported Ovewatch 2’s Château Guillard map in Unreal Engine 5. As such, this video can give us an idea of what Blizzard’s game could look like on Epic’s engine.

Going into more details, ARSHER used Lumen Global Illumination, Nanite and Ray Tracing for reflections. And, at first glance I was like “Okay, this looks worse than Overwatch 2. I can’t believe the actual game looks worse than that“. And boy was I wrong.

Below you can find a video that showcases the original version of the Château Guillard map. And, as we can see, the lighting looks worse than the Unreal Engine 5 fan port. Not only that but the water also looks bad in Overwatch 2. Texture-wise, both versions look identical. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as ARSHER ported the entire map (with its original assets) from Overwatch 2 to Unreal Engine 5.

Anyway, I’m sure most Overwatch 2 fans will find this cool, which is why we’ve decided to share it with you. And come on, it’s been a while since our last UE5 article, don’t you think?

Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, I also suggest taking a look at these other fan remakes. For instance, we have these faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3. Then we have this amazing fan remake of STALKER. Let’s also not forget this Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5. There is also this amazing full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9. And lastly, you can find fan remakes of Death StrandingFallout 4ARK: Survival AscendedFallout 4Resident Evil’s Spencer Mansion, and Skyrim’s Whiterun. All of them are cool, so make sure to watch them.

Enjoy!

  1. Microsoft did a really bad deal buying Activision/Blizzard.

They agreeed to pay $68 billion back in 2022. But back then there was still excitement about Diablo IV, Overwatch 2 and Hearthstone.

But now all these Blizzard games have populations that basically cratered.

Xbox is dead outside of the US. Redfall and Starfield were a mess. They keep doing acquisitions, spending billions of $, but the moment they do that, all the good developers immediately jump ship because none of them want to work for Microsoft.

Then they have Gamepass. But there seems to be a hard limit on the number of subscribers. It’s really mostly for very casual players who are fine with losing access to games over time.

Microsoft doesn’t need to own studios to run GamePass. Microsoft should just get out of game development, Xbox is dead outside of the US, the studios Microsoft owns have no idea what they’re doing since all the good developers bailed, and Microsoft themselves have no idea what they are doing in gaming anymore.

    1. Microsoft is buying studios to prevent PlayStation exclusives. Supposedly Activision had actually threatened Microsoft with that if they didn’t reduce the percentage of Xbox store sales they keep on Call of Duty purchases, and if I remember right Microsoft was afraid that Starfield was going to be a PlayStation exclusive as well.

Basically it sounds like Microsoft is burning money just to make sure that Sony can’t defeat Xbox through exclusivity deals. From what had been said and presented as evidence in court, it sounds like Xbox lost the console wars and now is struggling just to remain relevant.

      1. MS is their own worst enemy. I’m not a console gamer at all but I remember the dislike for the XBox One because MS wanted to force Kinect on Xbox gamers and charge an extra $100 for the console to pay for the Kinect device. Then they had the gall to say they wanted the console to be always online.

Of course many console gamers switched over to PS. Why wouldn’t they? MS corporate culture has continued to be anti-competitive for decades now. That is why govt regulators fight their acquisitions. There was a rumor a while back that MS even entertained the idea of buying Nintendo according to one of Phil Spencer’s emails. Even if MS were seriously thinking about that, regulators would never allow it.

        1. They didn’t actually “entertain” the idea of buying Nintendo, it’s just that someone at Microsoft (I think Phil Spencer but don’t remember) liked the idea but knew it would never happen. They were aware of the fact that not only would regulators in Japan not allow it, but also that Nintendo would never sell out to Microsoft in the first place.

  2. A waste of good technology on abysmal gameplay.
Why can’t we have smart games with deep gameplay instead of this crap for babies?
