YouTube’s ‘Digital Clowntree’ is currently working on an RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for American McGee’s Alice. While there is no ETA on when the mod will come out, you can find below a WIP video for it.
American McGee’s Alice is a third-person action-adventure game with a dark fantasy style. It was released on PC in 2000 and was made by Rogue Entertainment. In the game, you play as Alice and follow a set path through the story. Alice can talk to characters, fight enemies and bosses, and solve puzzles. She can walk, run, jump, grab onto ledges, climb, swing on ropes, and swim. She can also glide through the air using her dress like a parachute when she floats over hot steam.
Now, as you will see, this RTX Remix Mod is in a very early development stage. Right now, it manages to enhance the game’s lighting and shadows. However, there are some visual issues that most of you will be able to spot in the blink of an eye. For instance, Alice’s hair looks like plastic. There are some issues with the individual polygons of each character, too. Some parts of their bodies glow, whereas others have a different look from those right next to them. In a way, they remind me of the visual bug that could happen in Doom 3 once players enabled self-shadowing.
Since the mod is not available for download yet, I hope the modder will be able to fix them. Right now, it’s a cool concept demo. It has a lot of potential. From what I can remember, the game already looks better with this RTX Remix Mod, even in this early stage. Still, though, it needs a lot of work.
These past few weeks, we’ve shared a lot of RTX Remix Mods. So, you can find mods for Black Mesa, Star Wars Republic Commando, NFS: Underground, and Manhunt. You can also find some for BioShock, Morrowind, NFS: Underground 2, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Max Payne, Unreal, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
In January 2024, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, and Midnight Club 2. Be sure to also check out some early RTX Remix videos and screenshots for Fallout: New Vegas, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, COD 2, and Half-Life.
Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for Painkiller and Left 4 Dead 2. Oh, and don’t forget to try this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Lastly, you can download these amazing Path Tracing Mods for Doom, Doom 2, Quake, and Serious Sam.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Geometry is too shiny. Gives Tomb Raider 1 vibes. This shows nicely that you can"t just put RayTracing on anything without manual adjustment
Destroys the look and the atmosphere of the game completely as always.
Even when RT is implemented by worthless devs, it looks like garbage and I always turn that sh*t off.
i remember a gamespot forum comment pointing out how this game has better texture quality than cod4.
Looks really weird, whether it's displacement mapping or POM it just doesn't go well with such angular geometry, i'd rather take the new lighting alone but even then it needs heavy manual tweaks to get it right, wait and see

Oh cool!
(btw, mods that eliminate the 4GB memory limit have existed forever)
not fully, the game still cant handle alot of vram and it crashes and also utilizes alot of cpu. I want a openmw for new vegas, infintie mod limit.
LOOKS WORSE
Thanks John for posting my mod! Believe it or not, this was a lot a work to get the first level to this point as this is an OpenGL game so everything is a mess in remix until I made major tweaks to even get the base textures and some of the animated meshes to appear at all.
I then went a little crazy PBRifying and up-scaling everything and doing my best to get the displacement to make these flat textures have some depth. I plan on replacing the characters with high-res assets so they don't look as blocky and plastic. Though not sure what I can do about the world's low poly geometry without remaking the whole game with new assets. Also the second level is still completely broken so not sure how far I'll get with this game..
So cool, even or especially knowing the limitations… This game was a piece of art!
Yeah, if the speculars in wood, rocks and brick walls were a bit less reflective, that would be a whole step forwards.
And if you could get it running on some other levels that would do it much more justice and probably wouldn't highlight as much the need for higher environment poly count…
The chars aren't too bad, it's mostly the envs in this particular level that don't help, don't fret about replacing 3D assets. You already did the important part, upscaling + PBR.
Loved it! Very commendable effort!
Much appreciated! Just started to get the second level to work a bit more and then will go back and improve this on the first level. Here's the second half of the first level I just posted to youtube: https://youtu.be/A7syqvZGwrk?si=b047XRc_GUQuFzdb
