During its New Horizon event, AMD showcased its upcoming Vega GPU running Star Wars: Battlefront’s Rogue One DLC. AMD’s new GPU was running the Rogue One DLC in 4K with more than 60fps.
This was the first time that AMD’s Vega GPU was showcased to the public. It’s also worth noting that the machine that was used was also powered by AMD’s new CPU, the Summit Ridge.
Earlier today, we also shared a video, showcasing DOOM running in 4K with more than 60fps on AMD’s Vega GPU, so be sure to also check it out.
Enjoy!

Apparently its an early engineering sample without any sort of drivers. Its merely brute forcing the power here. The idea is that once it has drivers in place, with a model thats more release ready the power and/or efficiency should jump considerably. Competition is nigh.
Source?
AMD’s check
So pretty much nobody’s words, seeing what they managed to do in the past, *cough*polaris*cough*
give them the chance. As a nvidia/intel customer, I WANT THEM to succeed. Otherwise the aforementioned companies will sit on their shyte and do nothing revolutionary.
Yes of course, i too want them to succeed, but if they keep making the same stupid mistakes and stupid shows like yesterday’s they’ll accomplish nothing good
Yes they do have to conquer consumers.
My gtx 970 runs Star Wars Battlefront at 4k with 60fps.
I mean, we don’t know the settings they used. For all we know a simple 960 would run it in 4k/60fps with dumbed down gfxs.
Just for reference, I have an MSI 1080 and i7 3770k. Doom on 4k Ultra I get right around 60 – 70 fps, while the AMD “490” is holding steady at around with some mild drops to the 60 range, not sure what CPU they are using, but probably a bit better than my older i7.
Just as a reference I’ve got 1080 Strix OC Edition @ 2100Mhz, i7 4790k. Imagine the fps in all the games out there.
Sure…
Sorry I wanted to reply to marek lol
😀
assuming the cpu is the new one thats gonna be 650-900$ as its powerd against intels 1000$ cpu….
not impressed after with amd… if 490 is like 400$ref 450$ aftermarket ill bite, if not, back to nvidia.
I was waiting on the 490 and considering cf 480’s, but got a decent deal on the 1080. Seems the 490’s performance will be close/around the 1080. At $450 range def would be a good deal.
I have the same CPU and considering to buy 1080 Ti. How good is this CPU with 1080 in 4K? Is it capable to get 100% of GPU load or it is a bottleneck in some cases? From your experiences, will you buy more powerful GPU like 1080 to i7 3770K? Thanks for answer.
Just as a reference I’ve got 1080 Strix OC Edition @ 2100Mhz, i7 4790k. Imagine the fps in all the games out there.
If it’s 20 – 30% over reference 1080, than it should be in this performance level. I hope 1080 Ti will be 30% better than 1080.
What kind of FPS do you get in Dishonored 2 Ultra 1440p? 1080Ti will sure bring a 20% improvement but it will be priced almost like the TItan. This has been discussed before on dsogaming.
I don’t own Dishonored 2. But yes I expect 20-30% FPS over 1080. And I don’t think it will be priced like Titan. I assume it will be 900-1000$. I depends how good competition we will have from AMD Vega.
Well what i meant was, that titan will fall to that price by then.
I’m not the best person to ask about bottlenecks. 🙂 Running Deus Ex at 4k, all 8 cores are going, between 30 – 50% and the GPU is hitting about 80%, 35 – 40 fps. If that gives you any idea.
That’s only 1 game and there could be other circumstances for that result. But thanks. I will see when the 1080 Ti will be released. And that result was under DX12 or DX11?
DX11. Doom at 4k, nightmare settings and 8xTXAA, getting around 60 – 70 fps, GPU at around 60% all cores around 30%. Any games in particular you want me to check out?
Not a game particularly but something with DX12 and DX11 like Deus Ex. I assume that if developers use multicore in DX12 implemention, it should have better use of GPU and GPU load should be better. The same with OpenGL and Vulkan. So I would like to see comparison of DX11 and DX12 in new Deus Ex and OpenGL vs Vulkan in Doom. All in 4K and with the same settings. Just renderer is changed. From what you just write in previous comments, it is seemed like CPU is bottleneck and it’s not capable to use performance potential of GTX 1080. Even in 4K resolution.
I have everything on ultra
how stupid do you think people are? a 970 gets sub 30 fps at 4k on “ultra” settings in Stars Wars Battlefront with a 970 you clown.
I think the vast majority of people are stupid.
You’re lying. But of course you’re welcome to prove it with a video.

Exposed!! LOL!!!!
really? so next gen gpu and 800-900$ cpu to do what a 970 and what im guesing is a 6700k(at best cpu) can do?
im worried for amd….
Star wars Battlefront is like one of the only games that i own that runs at 4k at 60fps. So I don’t know why AMD is using it as there benchmark.
It would be more impressive to see a Vega running a “nvidia game” (or a game that is notoriously terrible on AMD) at better or near 1080 levels.
seems like alot of not so smart people who believe what people like you type
Realy? 4k 60 fps on max settings with 970?
:)))))))))
?????????????~
what are we guessing the price range/release date here?
want a new gpu in jan-feb, already have a 480. dont want to go crossfire, might as its cheaper than a 1080….
like feb-march 400$ maybe? anyone hoping or have rumors or such?
Well Guide-Dogs are an untapped market.
Too short lived for the investment. To maximize usability you need to use mini horses.
Someone hire this man!
i hope they just release the card already without creating too much hype around it. especially when some people expect the impossible from AMD.
There wasn’t any stutter, but I did see screen tearing.
My old 980 could almost run battlefront at 4k 60fps , but had to turn shadows down to actually hit that target, whilSt my 980ti can manage this feat. Pretty sure this gpu should match a 1080, but is that enough?? Unless they intend to heavily undercut nvidia, it seems slightly underwhelming….again.they’ve yet to show a game running 4k 60fps that’s not designed to run 60fps on consoles. We need to see games like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate or Tomb Raider doing this for some perspective.
it also won’t satisfy the highest end users, leaving nvidia to dominate the enthusiast market again, charging extortionate prices again due to lack of competition.
If they drop this card sensationally low priced and it offers significant improvement over 980ti i might bite, but I’m pretty sure Nvidia going to drop a 1080ti soon and whatever follows will be miles ahead.
I’m not personally even bothered about these enthusiast cards any more, I’m more excited by possible upscaling technology hitting pc as i play from distance these days rather than with mouse and keyboard (I’m done with online fps games).
However, AMD seem to have given up on enthusiast crown
Of course they have, knowing there are people like you (nVIDIA loyalists) who go from a 980 to a Ti, what chance do they have to win you over? Give their high end cards to you for free, seems that is what you want, am I right?
“If they drop this card sensationally low priced and it offers significant improvement over 980ti i might bite, but I’m pretty sure Nvidia going to drop a 1080ti soon and whatever follows will be miles ahead.” – Yeah seems I’m right.
Let us not pretend you are interested in a GPU unless it has the nVIDIA stamp on it.
Dude, I could only dream to own something remotely close to a 980ti, because poor national economy and all… can I have yours for free, pwease? You won’t need it anyway. :3
The GPU isnt out yet, and i can see the haters, lol, like they own them
Its really simple, GPU comes out, you like it you’ll buy it and if you dont like it then you wont buy it
That is nothing, that DLC has nothing to render, just a black space and some bases and models wtf, shows us really demanding games and then we will talk.
Yeah that was the first thing came to my mind too, they basically showed an empty area with not much happening at all.
I was running above 60fps with a 60hz monitor that is why you are seeing stutters and screen tearing, enable v-sync and it will solve that.
Purposefully chose an empty map. The performance differences between the proper ground maps with dense foliage versus the flight combat maps is massive, especially this one that is in god damn space, there’s almost no geometry.
Crappy of them to be so manipulative.
Dang, my SLi780ti’s are holding up pretty well.
Meh, show bf1, Or something that everyone knows runs like poo like Ark
…and no frame rate counter.
Fury X can run 4k at nearly 60fps why does amd think this is a big deal again?
