While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. They’re still using that “independent AAA” sh*t? For the love of god, someone tell these guys AAA is not a title for high quality games, it’s just how high budget games are called. And honestly, going for ‘AAA quality’ when most AAA games are extremely disappoiting, with very few delivering everything they promise, just serves to show how much Ninja Theory still have to learn about what makes a game truly good, it seems they believe that for a game to be good, it needs to be a high budget, AAA game. And instead of just trying to focus on making a game the best it possibly can be, it seems like they’re trying to work around how to make their game look AAA, without the high budget.
Ideally, triple-A budget and triple-A quality go hand in hand. If the budget is there, then the quality should be there. In the video, Tameem Antoniades said that it’s an experiment to see if they can make a triple-A quality game without the associated budget and team size. If they’re going for eye candy and bad gameplay, then they’ll only have themselves to blame when their game gets bad reviews.
