In March 2023, we informed you about a project that aimed to bring the classic Deus Ex to Unreal Engine 5. And today, we are happy to share a new development video for it. This video also packs numerous gameplay sequences, as well as comparison scenes between the original and the remastered versions.
DXU24 attempts to make Deus Ex fully playable in Unreal Engine 5. This means that the mod will take advantage of some of the new graphical/tech improvements of UE5. For instance, we can expect better lighting. Plus, its ultimate goal will be to offer a first-class VR experience.
Now while the modder claims that DXU24 is not a remaster, that is not that accurate. As we can clearly see, there are numerous lighting and graphical improvements to it. I get why the modder has attempted to stay away from such terms. That’s a way to protect the project from a future DMCA letter.
So, in case you’re wondering, the mod does not recreate any copyrighted assets contained in Deus Ex. It will also require the original game to be played. However, it does feel like a remaster of this classic FPS. I mean, take a look at the comparison scenes. This feels like.
Sadly, DXU24 won’t be a free mod. Instead, it will be held behind a Patreon wall. Again, I get why its creator is putting it behind a Patreon wall. This mod most likely took him a lot of time. Still, this is something that will rub most PC gamers the wrong way.
Speaking of Deus Ex, you can download an Unreal Engine 4 Fan Tech Demo from this link. You can also get the Deus Ex: Revision The Nameless Mod 2.0. And then we have the Helios Texture Overhaul Mod.
Enjoy the video and stay tuned for more!

From the dev update it actually sounds interesting. I just hope it’s forward rendered so MSAA can be used instead of TAA.
Niceee. The real Deus Ex needs every bit of efforts to refresh it, i hope there’s an official remaster/remake at some point.
looks like shidd tbh
It’s Unreal Engine, so it’s going to a laggy bloated mess where it takes 2 minutes to even get into the game.
Expected some low effort asset flip, instead got some gold with actual effort put into it.
Thanks John.
I think Deus Ex needs a proper visual remaster with models and environments redone on a modern engine.
What is the point of reusing almost quarter century old models and environments? I genuinely don’t understand.
for fun, science, compatibility with modern hardware etc.
Got it. So calling it a remaster/remake is deceiving. It’s a small passion project of one guy.
No one is re-using anything. It’s the OG running in this mod author’s translation software to be pooped out in UE5. No one is remastering or remaking anything – the article author is a moron.
And you can d/l remade models and environments from just a few years ago for the OG if a lack of fancy graphics is so debilitating for you.
This is a one man project.
And he will include full modding support so people can do what they want.
Garbage
Requiring payment for this is a surefire way to get sued.
You are completely wrong. He is not redistributing any game files, this will hook onto the original game.
If you bothered to watch the video you’d understand.
Also he will ask 12$ for it, considering the huge amount of work and the fact that he’s a lone developer, it’s very much fair, and it will include mod support so people can further remaster it by changing assets.
Anything that brings attention to the project is good, I suppose. Even hilarious, awful articles like this. I like how the article says that the creator calls it a certain thing, and the author just says ‘lmao it is actually a remaster, he be wrong’ and then complains about a paywall. There is, of course, a Discord for the mod located within the Flat2VR channel. There’s always a fkin Discord because forums are dead.
The tone of respect given to either the project or the developer of it betrays the love of the community which the author’s bio claims to have.
I would hope that this is only the beginning and that the new engine will allow some tremendous changes in the future, including better models and geometry.
It’ll change the original feeling of the game, but I don’t really mind, cos there are already ways to play improved versions of Deus Ex which respect the original vision. (GMDX)
What we need is a real drastic change and make it look like a proper 2020s game.
Personally, I think that EVERY FPS of the 90s-early2000s should get its own “Black Mesa” treatment.
The only thing this shït is doing is fücking up with the atmosphere of the original, nothing else.
Can’t understand this kind of project. Lots of work to make the thing disgusting.
You could never find the words to describe how much I loved you. No matter how beautiful the picture is or how polished your writing is, you read it quickly. To be honest, I think you should give it another chance soon. I will probably try to go on this hike again and again if you make sure it is safe.
I have no idea how I got here, but I thought this post was fantastic. I don’t know who you are, but if you aren’t already, you will become a well-known blogger. Cheers.
