Earlier this month, we informed you about an upcoming fan remake of the Resident Evil 3.5 Hookman Demo in Unreal Engine 5. And, a few days ago, YouTube’s ‘Luli Studio’ shared a video, showcasing 8 minutes of gameplay footage from it.
For those who did not know, the Resident Evil 3.5 “Hookman” demo is basically the E3 2003 demo of Resident Evil 4. In E3 2003, Capcom showcased a supernatural-focused version of RE4 featuring Leon S. Kennedy.
This was what Resident Evil 4 was originally meant to be. However, Capcom decided to cancel it and create the RE4 we all now know and love.
In the E3 2003 demo, Leon was exploring a haunted castle, suffering from hallucinations (blue-tinted scenes, living dolls), and fighting the near-invincible, teleporting Hook Man. The demo had an over-the-shoulder camera, red laser sights, and intense lighting/shadow effects.
This first video focuses on the “vibe”, the dense atmosphere, and the asset tests of the Castle Version. The next gameplay video will focus on the terrifying Hookman Hallucination version with Leon.
What’s also cool here is that the artist plans to release a playable demo for it. Not only that, but the demo will have the option to choose which of the two versions (Castle or Hookman) you want to explore first, right from the main menu.
There is currently no ETA for when the demo will come out. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive.
In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a remaster of Unreal Gold and a cool fan remake of Doom 3. Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground also have some awesome fan remakes. There’s even a fan remake of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation that features Angelina Jolie and Christoph Waltz. But that’s not all. Fans have also made remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. A former Infinity Ward and Wargaming artist has also remastered Half-Life 2’s train station intro in Unreal Engine 5. Oh, and there’s a video showing MGS2’s iconic intro in UE5.
