Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – SweetFX vs Vanilla Comparison [UPDATE]

Assassins Creed IV Black Flag v4

Ah, the beauty of SweetFX. It’s no stretch to say that SweetFX is a useful tool that all PC gamers should be using. As we’ve already said in our Performance Analysis, Nvidia’s TXAA tech does an incredible job eliminating jaggies. However, this AA solution blurs the whole image, thus resulting in inferior image quality. Therefore, we decided to counter this blur side effect with the power of SweetFX. Ubisoft: “If we didn’t care about PC, we wouldn’t bother making our games work on it at all”

Assassins Creed IV Black Flag

All hell has broken loose yesterday when Videogamer reported that Ubisoft does not care for PC optimization. As we said when we reported that story, that quote seemed to be taken out of context and it appears we were right. As an Ubisoft employee commented on that story, Ubisoft actually cares about the PC. After all, as Ubisoft’s employee claimed, the company wouldn’t bother making its games work on the PC platform at all if it didn’t care about it. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s Produced: “On PC, usually you don’t really care about the performance”

Assassins Creed IV Black Flag v3

Man, what a train wreck this is. As we informed you yesterday, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has major issues on the PC. While the game runs better than its PS4 and Xbox One cousins, it does not take advantage of more than two CPU cores. On the other hand, its GPU requirements are off the charts and if that wasn’t enough, Nvidia and Ubisoft are preparing a PhysX patch for it. Continue reading Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s Produced: “On PC, usually you don’t really care about the performance”

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – PC Performance Analysis

Assassins Creed IV Black Flag

Last month, we had the pleasure to interview Ubisoft who confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag would be better optimized on the PC than its predecessor. As Ubisoft claimed, the scheduler used for the rendering was ‘rewritten from the ground up and in AC4, the engine will use all the cores it needs until it sees that using more cores brings no more gain.’ Well, it appears that information was incorrect as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is plagued by performance issues and runs identical on tricore and quadcore CPUs. Not only that but the performance difference between a dualcore and a quadcore is around 5fps at best. Continue reading Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – PC Performance Analysis
