NVIDIA announces Quake 2 RTX, first official screenshots and details
Back in January, we informed you about a mod for Quake 2 that added real-time ray tracing effects. Created by former NVIDIA intern Christoph Schied, a Ph.D. student at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany, Q2VKPT was the first playable game that is entirely raytraced and efficiently simulates fully dynamic lighting in real-time. Bethesda has released a new gameplay trailer for RAGE 2, showcasing some of the weapons and abilities combos that will be present in it. RAGE 2 feels more like a “Bulletstorm” than a “RAGE” game, at least when it comes to its combat mechanics, so I guess that’s a good thing (as there were a lot of people wishing for a new Bulletstorm game). Earlier this week we shared a trailer for Quake 1.5 and today we are happy to report that its debut beta version is available for download. Quake 1.5 is a Darkplaces addon mod for the original Quake that utilizes Seven’s SMC 5.30 as a base and has been expanded to include new features such as weapons, gore, and enemies. Mod enables real-time ray tracing RTX effects in Quake 2 for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs
Back in October 2018, we informed you about the Path Tracing mod for Quake 2 that could run on the new high-end gaming graphics card from NVIDIA, the GeForce RTX2080Ti. Unfortunately, though, that Path Tracing renderer could not take advantage of the RT cores, resulting in really low performance. Thankfully though, a group of people has released a new special version that takes advantage of the RTX GPUs. Quake fans, here is something for you today. Modders ‘bloodshot12’ and ‘Kollech87’ have released new videos for their upcoming mods, Quake 1.5 and Quoom. As its title suggests, Quoom is basically a port of Quake to the Gzdoom Engine and will feature 3 episodes with around 30 levels.
