Frontier Developments has rolled out a new update for the alpha version of Elite: Dangerous that adds support for Oculus Rift and stereoscopic 3D. Not only that, but this update comes with support for anaglyph rendering – old school Red/Cyan rendering for those without Oculus Rift or a 3D TV but with some vintage red/cyan glasses – as well as support for TrackIR. Frontier Developments announced today that the alpha phase for Elite: Dangerous is a go. As the company hinted, this announcement follows Frontier’s announcement on 18 October 2013 that the Alpha phase would launch in December 2013. Good news for space fans as Elite: Dangerous has just been funded. Developed by Frontier Developments, Elite: Dangerous promises to remind us what made Elite so great back in the days. In Elite: Dangerous, players will fly a spaceship using a first person from-the-cockpit view, building on the elements from the previous games, with sumptious graphics enabled by the performance of modern PCs – all made possible using procedural techniques.
