EA enters next-generation fight: Frostbite 2.0 is built for PS4 and X720

Following Crytek’s and Epic’s statements about their next-generation game engines, Electronic Arts decided to step in and talk about DICE’s Frostbite 2. In an interview with Gamasutra, EA Games’ label executive, Patrick Soderlund, said that Frostbite 2.0 is built for next-generation hardware and that the PC version of Battlefield 3 was just a small treat of Frostbite 2.0’s capabilities. This Battlefield 3 Machinima makes us wish for some BF3 mod tools

Mr Kees de Koning created an interesting machinima for Battlefield 3 that involves a race with lots of explosions. This machinima is basically a cross between Blur/Split Second and Battlefield 3. And after watching it, you’ll definitely miss the mod tools that were released for Battlefield 2 and are nowhere to be found in Battlefield 3. Battlefield 3’s fanbase is huge and there is a huge potential for some mind-blowing mods or total conversions. Unfortunately though, DICE thought otherwise. And no, that ‘Frostbite 2 is too complicated for modders’ thing is the worst excuse we’ve ever heard. Enjoy the video! Is this the first screenshot from DICE’s Frostbite 3.0 Engine? [BOGUS]

Hayssam Keilany, creator of iCEnhancer, shared an interesting new screenshot from what appears to be DICE’s Frostbite 3.0 Engine. According to the image, this is a shot from DICE’s Internal Test and showcases a wall and a Depth of Field effect. As the headline reads, this is a shot from Frostbite 3.0’s Pre-alpha build. DICE and Electronic Arts have not revealed anything about Frostbite 3.0 and we are not sure whether this is a legit shot or not, so take it with a grain of salt. Truth be told, the font of the letters seems a bit weird so this might be bogus. [UPDATE] After further investigation, it seems that this shot is bogus (mainly due to the font of the headline). Instead of deleting the post though, we decided to keep it. We don’t agree with Keilany’s attempt in using such a headline, but guess that’s a way to get everyone’s attention. Not that the shot itself shows much to prove that is indeed from a next-generation scene, but still. Continue reading Is this the first screenshot from DICE’s Frostbite 3.0 Engine? [BOGUS]

Battlefield 3 Conquest in Real Life

Israeli Animation College Production created an amazing video, in which they showcase Battlefield 3’s Conquest mode in real life. This is really an amazing live action video as it looks quite similar to Battlefield 3. There are explosions, tanks, helicopters and… the running animation of the medic class is simply lovely. There are some montage issues (and the tank vs heli sequence could be better) but still, it’s an astonishing fan-made video. Kudos to Israeli Animation College and this video made us wish for a Battlefield game with this kind of image fidelity. Damn, next generation can’t come any sooner. But anyway, enjoy the video everyone! Continue reading Battlefield 3 Conquest in Real Life

Battlefield 3 gets some dubstep love; new emotional fan trailer for DICE’s FPS

YouTube’s member ‘SIBentertainment’ created an emotional, dubstep trailer for Battlefield 3. It’s funny but SIBentertainment’s take is amazing and PatrickReza’s Dubstep remix of ‘Kleerup Ft. Lykke – Until We Bleed’ is a perfect match for it. There is nothing more to add really, other than it’s a must-see video. It takes real talent to create as emotional and memorable – in just a few minutes – as this video. Naturally, some will like it, som won’t. Either way, we highly recommend spending five minutes watching it. Enjoy! Continue reading Battlefield 3 gets some dubstep love; new emotional fan trailer for DICE’s FPS
