A new set of screenshots from the Unreal Engine 5-powered S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl have been leaked online. These screenshots are from an old/WIP build, and they do not represent the quality of the final product. Regardless of that, though, the game looks stunning, even in these WIP screenshots.
The following screenshots focus on a bar location that players will be able to visit. The screenshots showcase some of the game’s WIP assets, lighting system, visual effects, and NPCs.
Now the good news here is that these leaked screenshots do not contain any spoilers.
STALKER 2 aims to feature an epic, non-linear story. Furthermore, your choices will influence both short-term consequences and global outcomes. The game will take place inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone, and it will have new locations along with the old ones.
The game will be using Unreal Engine 5 and was originally targeting a 2022 release date. In June 2022, GSC GameWorld announced that the game has been delayed until 2023. Realistically, though, I expect this game to slip into 2024.

Anything actually playable on U5 right now? I think the more the tech advances, the less memorable the games become, i think the high mark was Unreal 3 in terms of quantity/quality ratio. Unreal 1 i only have fond memories of Deus Ex, didn’t get to play many games from that period, Unreal 2 have Invisible War which i liked regardless of being inferior to the first.
I’m glad Unreal 5 is happening because the standard lighting actually looks good unlike the garbage UE4 one.
Many other games also completely bork their lighting.

That’s very subjective, but for me personally, it’s either STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, Crysis or ARMA 3
Everything just looks natural with barely any use of post processing effects, to the point ARMA 3 is still confused with real life footage today.
Bioshock Infinite also has great lighting despite being a mediocre game.
You certainly don’t get garbage like this with older games and UE5, even if the bloom, lens flare and brown filter era was absolute garbage as well.
It at least looked better than AAA dynamic lighting made by outsourced retards with clearly no idea what they’re doing and under pressure.

Lighting is a tricky thing and quite artistic skill . So essential that it can make or break a game’s mood . Overly realistic lighting makes game bland in future . It’s not the accuracy that’s at fault, it’s the art design and detail.
Bottom has neither and was done by an amateur dev and clearly rushed out, just like the whole game.

this reminds me of elex 2 that the graphics were technically better but oily plastic and blurry compared to the first game. This is what i see here too, its like it needs sharpening effect on it.

I read the book, then watched the 1979 movie, and then downloaded the game, all with the intention of playing in Russia with English subs, and i found out you cant, f them, im not going to play this franchise until they patch a way to play with Russian voices and English subs.
