YouTube’s ‘Haraldinowitch’ has shared an video, showcasing the intro from Grim Fandango being rendered in real-time in Unreal Engine 5. This video should give you an idea of what a faithful remake of this classic adventure game would look like in UE5.
For comparison purposes, I’ve also included below the intro from the remastered version of Grim Fandango. As such, you will be able to compare them.
As we can see, this fan remake features higher-quality textures and 3D models. We also get 60fps animations (whereas the original intro was locked at 30fps). The fan remake also has better shadows. The only downside is the exterior scene. The buildings in the background look bad, even though the staircases and the road have better textures.
Anyway, for a fan project, this Grim Fandango UE5 Remake looks pretty cool. Sadly, though, Haraldinowitch has not released it to the public. As such, you won’t be able to run it on your PC system. Like with a lot of UE5 fan remakes, this serves as a proof-of-concept/showcase video and nothing more. It looks cool, so don’t sleep on it.
If you’re into Unreal Engine 5, you’ve got to check out these other awesome fan video remakes. Here are some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. Then there’s this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. We also have a fan remaster of Unreal Gold in UE5. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9.
Need for Speed Most Wanted, Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Death Stranding, Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s Solitude, Grand Theft Auto 4, Fallout 4, Silent Hill 4: The Room, Resident Evil 1, Skyrim’s Winterhold and Skyrim’s Whiterun. There is also this Studio Ghibli stylized teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5. So, lots of UE5 fan remakes, right? Well, since they’re all really cool, we suggest giving them a watch.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Really fun point and click adventure classic. If you like that genre then this is definitely a must play game. You can usually pick up the remaster on GOG for $5 on a good sale if you’ve never played it.
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Better graphics and fps are a given, but here, to me, it conveys even more CHARM than the original which to me is an absolute rarity, it’s always somewhat lost with remakes but this kept the same art but upscaled, like a remaster.
