It appears that a prototype version of Sleeping Dogs from 2011 has been leaked online. And now, PC gamers can download and play it. So, if you’ve been curious about it, you can get a taste of it for yourself.
This 2011 prototype version has different animations, different voices (text-to-speech), and UI from the final version. This prototype was created during the game’s changeover from the cancelled “True Crime: Hong Kong”.
Since this is a prototype version, you should keep your expectations in check. You will most likely encounter a lot of bugs and glitches. Still, this is something that may interest some of you.
You can go ahead and download the prototype from here. This is the X360 version, meaning that you will need Xenia in order to play it.
I’m almost certain that NexusMods will soon take down this mod. After all, it did the exact same thing with Gears of War: Redux. So, make sure to download it while it’s still available.
In case the NexusMods link is no longer available, you can download the prototype from here, too. Since this is a MEGA link, I don’t know how long it will be available. So, as I said, download it as soon as possible.
Sleeping Dogs is a game I really enjoyed. Its story reminded me of Infernal Affairs, a movie I really love. And yes, I’m one of those who believe that Infernal Affairs is miles better than The Departed.
The game also had a great combat system. It lets players fight enemies from any direction with attacks, grapples, and counters. These moves can be used with or without weapons. Players can also chain these moves with character movement to create different attacks.
One of the coolest features is the environmental attacks. Players can drag enemies toward objects in the area and use them to take down their foes. Melee weapons such as knives, tire irons, and frying pans are also available, but they break after heavy use.
Gun combat mixes a cover system with gun fu. If players vault over cover during a gunfight or disarm an enemy with a gun, time slows down for a short time. Players can make this effect last longer by chaining headshots.
Guns are rare, and players can usually carry only one firearm at a time. Handguns are the exception, as other guns cannot be saved for later. Once they run out of ammo, they must be dropped.
For those who don’t want to download the prototype, I’ve included a 30-minute video below. This should give you an idea of what it’s all about. So, if you are not in the mood to download it, you can instead watch it.
Enjoy!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
