The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition confirmed

Earlier today, Twitter user lifeflower spotted a Game of the Year Edition for The Witcher 3 that was listed by the German age-ratings board USK. And Eurogamer has just confirmed that this Edition is real, and that CD Projekt RED will reveal more details about it in the near future.

As game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told Eurogamer:

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a gigantic effort for the entire studio, and both the team and me were amazed by the good reception of Geralt’s adventures. Since launch, we’ve released two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which added a lot of new adventures to the already potent mix.

With all the free DLC and updates the game received so far, including significant changes to the game’s interface and mechanics, many gamers have asked us if we’re working on some sort of a Game of the Year Edition. I’m happy to confirm – yes, plans are in motion to release such an edition. We’ll release more details, including the release date, in the future. In the meantime, I’d like to thank every fan of the game for their support – you’re really amazing!”

It will be interesting to see whether CD Projekt RED will improve – at all – the visuals of the original game.

Stay tuned for more!

    1. Highly likely but that’s what they have done in the past witcher enhanced edition’s so people will expect some kind of update to the visuals.

  1. Hopefully it will be free update for existing customers along with DX 12 support, improved foliage etc.

    1. Vulkan, f*ck DX12.

Otherwise, agreed, free update is expected at this point after the free Enhanced Edition upgrades of Witcher & Witcher 2 respectively, so I doubt they’ll aggravate the community now by suddenly turning into money-grubbing-wh*res.

      1. Where are you getting the idea there will anything new they would charge existing owners of the game for?? This is going to be merely a re-packaging at a lower aggregate price.

Blood & Wine was the last dlc.

        1. Nowhere, that’s the point; there’s no basis on which to expect this re-release to be anything other than a free upgrade for all existing customers, just as the case was with the Witcher & Witcher 2 Enhanced Editions.

Granted, some releases have an “upgrade to the [Game of the Year] Edition” cost, but they’re a minority (especially these days), & are generally limited to people who don’t have all the DLC’s/Expansions/whatevers.

          1. Listen… this is NOT an Enhanced Edition. It’s not going to be like W2, as W2 had no DLC’s. This is going to be a GOTY ed. strictly with the base game and both DLC’s included.

They’ve already stated that B&W was the last new content they’d produce. Maybe you’re right, and they sneak something cool in there… but even in that case, it would be on the level of the 16 free mini-DLC’s we got in the first year, and not anything the size of a full one.

Not saying don’t hope for the best, cuz I always do as well (and sometimes get surprised by CDPR), but I have a pretty solid feeling that this new product is going to be aimed at those who’ve yet to experience Witcher 3, and that’s about it.

    2. Why would it be a free update? There’s not going to be anything new, other than a game update, which is always free.

      1. Yea, so far as we know.

They might announce something, but it’s very unlikely, and almost definitely wouldn’t be anything big.

  2. Ubersampling/or better AA options and Dx12 support please. You do have the money CD Project 😀

  3. everything you’ve done to the game so far was awesome and great, well since you’re working yet on final version for the witcher 3, vulkan or dx12 would be more than welcomed

    1. You don’t need to buy it, if you’re an existing owner….

There won’t be any new content.

        1. break what? They don’t break anything, the mods have to be updated to match whatever scripts they modify. And like I said above, for the most part, every mod gets updated in due time.

  4. Multiple times they were asked if they were going to release one. And every single time they said definitely not, what is up with this company.

    1. Can’t cut into existing sales by admitting they’re doing a re-release later on, that’s just textbook 101 Media Industry PR.

      1. I waited a whole year to play this, as I wanted the goty edition, they said they weren’t going to release one lots of times when asked, so I bought it. What a joke.

        1. If you’ve bought all the dlc, the enhanced/game of the year edition may be free for you. Just saying.

          1. lol… do you have some link where there’s going to be a new, 3rd DLC for Witcher3? Are they going to put Cyberpunk on hold for it? smh…

          2. Who cares, they’ve released enough, why don’t they start being straight with their customers, they like lying a bit too much.

      1. What has nativity got to do with, a company refuting multiple times that they were not going to release said product, this time around. A flippant ‘no’ you can ignore, but it wasn’t…

  5. Great news for anyone who knows somebody that’s not played this yet…

Very unlikely there will be any new content at all, however. No Vulkan or any major improvements. Especially if they intend to release it for Christmas.

    1. Yea, so it’s a good thing the modders update their work usually within 24 hours of a patch.

I’ve been running with over 30 mods in my install since last summer, and usually only have to wait a day or so for them to be updated.
