Valve is currently hiring a “psychologist” to help develop future games and its storefront

Valve, the studio behind Half Life: Alyx, Team Fortress 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is currently looking to hire one psychologist. As per a new listing posted on their official site, the developer is looking for a psychologist to join their team to help develop its future games and the STEAM storefront.

As the listing reads, “We hire people with broad skill sets who also exhibit deep expertise. Psychologists at Valve contribute to a wide variety of initiatives across the company and are trusted to prioritize their work in collaboration with their peers.”

Valve has employed a number of psychologists over the past years as well, to conduct experiments like sweat detection and eye-tracking for games, and other projects.

Candidates will need to “research compelling new hardware technologies” as the Job listing indicates. Following the success of Half Life: Alyx, Valve is now hiring new staff to craft the future of some of their games.

The said candidate must help the developer:

  • Craft compelling gameplay experiences for future Valve titles
  • Provide insights on human behavior to improve customer experiences on Steam, our game distribution platform
  • Conduct statistical analyses on Valve’s gameplay, financial, and company data to identify patterns of behavior
  • Research compelling new hardware technologies
  • Design experiments to evaluate various gameplay hypotheses and design choices
  • Improve existing playtesting methodologies
  • Develop innovative ways of acquiring data to answer questions about Valve’s products and business practices

    1. Yeah cause went what would you need a brain Fuqr to make games. These companies love throwing away money and giving people a free lunch when it’s not needed.

  1. Whenever I hear “psychologist” and “gaming” in the same sentence, I see it almost always linked with “get gamers to spend money” and not “make the experience better”.

Really hope I’m wrong on this, but I just can’t help but feel like Valve just hired a guy to basically fool people, or get Valve to push F2P/MT crap at the front page (the very last thing I ever want to see).

  2. Newell has never been a stranger to hiring professional help for advice. Back in the day when he started the Steam Sales EA accused him of potentially destroying the market for PC gamer Developers but Newell countered with his Professional Economists that said it would do the exact opposite.

  3. The dystopia is always tomorrow for you guys. It’s funny since you post all the evidence that Steam is just going with the flow of “prog-ess”, and then you say sh#t like “once Gabe is dead this company will be subverted”, but it’s just your own rationalization for still spending money in their store.

      1. I’m not defending anything. I’m saying you are acting like a ret*rd in the comments about it. You are preaching to the choir.

        1. LOL, oh no is everyone on DSOG talking about me behind my back saying I’m a shill? LMAO
          Get a f*kn life loser.

  4. i remember how some disgruntled employe leaked code for counter strike go and some translunatic on twitter who worked on valve was mad because that person got him fired.

    Valve is dead.

  5. Simplified: We are looking for somebody to help us suck most money as possible with least effort possible preferably with some card game

  6. And this is why I am spending my time playing retro games and consoles more nowadays. This industry is going downhill fast and the games being churned out are just not intended for my generation anymore.

  7. Psychologists are exclusively SJW, the soulless communist type. Looks like Valvecucks ramping up the propaganda
