TOXIKK – Retro Arena FPS – Now Available On Steam Early Access

Reakktor Studios today released the beta build of TOXIKK, their back-to-the-roots Arena FPS title, on Steam Early Access. TOXIKK is inspired by the big shooters from the late 90s and early 2ks, and plays as if today’s military shooters never existed. This basically means that there is no leveling, no regenerating health, no perks, no cover systems, no classes, no configurable weapons and no iron sight aiming.

TOXIKK offers players fast and precise movement (with deeply configurable mouse controls), double jumps, dodge jumps, booster pick-ups, nine iconic weapons to be carried around simultaneously, secondary fire modes for every weapon, vehicular game modes, jump pads, health-packs, lots of vertical gameplay, optional mutators (incl. instagib) and everything else that made these kind of games so addictive.

The game also features a configurable Bot-Mode to let you train your skills offline.

In order to celebrate this announcement, Reakktor has also released a new trailer that can be viewed below.

Enjoy!

  1. Highly recommend this arena shooter! Really fun, and even though it is in early access and low on content it has really minimal bugs, dedicated servers, and will be getting biweekly content patches. Fantastic modern spin on unreal tournament 2004!

  2. How are the servers? Btw, I don’t live in America so I don’t know if I’ll get a good connection on this one.

  3. Some bad signs I gathered from youtube videos:

    1. There is mouse accel which you can only deactivate via ini file.

    2. There is motion blur.

    3. VSync is on by default.

These things needn’t be in an arena shooter at all. Only a minority of people who play arena shooters would even consider activating these features. Having them is questionable and having them activated by default is downright worrisome. The devs cannot be the hardcore gamers they claim to be if they think these are the features expected of their game.
