CD Projekt RED has announced that its The Witcher series has sold – so far – 25 million copies worldwide. CD Projekt RED has also reported 584 million PLN in sales revenues and 251 million PLN in net profit for 2016. These figures basically translate to 140€ million in sales revenues and 60.24€ million in net profit for 2016.
Furthermore, CD Projekt RED revealed that the cumulative revenues from sales of The Witcher 3 topped 1 billion PLN (240€ million) in 1.5 years.
Adam Kicinski, President of CD PROJEKT, said:
“For years we have consistently prioritized quality and focused on a limited range of products. The persistently strong sales of the entire The Witcher series vindicate our approach and contribute to long-term appeal of our releases. Between the launch of The Witcher in 2007 and the end of 2016 we have sold over 25 million copies of The Witcher games.”
CD Projekt RED claimed that it will continue to expand The Witcher brand this year with GWENT. The team is in the process of organizing the game’s first major tournament, with a 100 thousand USD prize pool, and another crucial round of beta tests will commence in Spring for GWENT, with the retail release to follow in the second half of 2017.
CD Projekt RED is also working on its new RPG, Cyberpunk 2077!

Wonder how long it will take for this games to go public
what do you mean?
I meant the company
INVESTORS ARE WAITING €€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€
F*ck that. Just what we need; a board of directors whining about how underpriced the Season Passes are.
Worst thing to ever happen to U-BE-SOFT, EA, etc. was going public, & becoming slaves to corporate suits constantly howling about how to make higher profit margins, in order to make their sh*tty stock more valuable.
You know. If CDProjekt hadn’t downgraded the game completely and released a superior version for the PC, then they could’ve right now released it(with little effort) for the PS4 Pro and Scorpio and everyone would have been happy. But NOOooO, parity.
I don’t think PS4 Pro and Scorpio could handle that version of Witcher 3. No way.
While the CPU is weak, the GPU is not that bad. I think at 30fps they could’ve handled it, maybe not at ultra. The ps4 already runs the regular game at medium-high-ultra settings at 1080p 30, so a PS4 pro should be able to do the older version at medium-high 1080p 30 even if the older version required more than twice the GPU power of the current one. The graphics looked GPU intensive not CPU so I think my assumption is fair.
ps4 pro GPU is a downgraded RX 470
Theoretically, sure.
However, does Unity have Dynamic Lighting? For example. There’s a lot of variables that make a big difference, in the end.
Unity only used dynamic lighting for the characters I think. But regardless, the complexity of the world and architecture, the sheer number of npcs and clutter push far beyond anything Witcher 3 ever tried. Anvilnext is downright mindblowing.

And even though the lighting was baked, there was still so much more going on.
Good point ^^
scorpio? it comes next year with ps5 even so witcher 3 at its first trailer would be near impossible to run, f’ing hate consoles and pairty excuse.
true
Good.
Then we’d be able to stop talking about “can it run Crysis”, & we’d finally have moved on to “but can it run The Witcher 3”, instead.
I mean, seriously, it’ll be 10 years this fall, & we’re still using that, instead of anything else, for f*ck’s sake.
So what? I didn’t notice the downgrade and I don’t even care because the game looks amazing! What if the game wasn’t downgraded and your PC couldn’t run it, then what? Maybe you’d be pissed off for it’s poor optimization. Instead on focusing on such matters, enjoy the game!
So we are back to being stupid! *sigh
“CD Projekt RED is also working on its new RPG, Cyberpunk 2077!”
Let’s hope it releases before 2077 ( ?° ?? ?°)
Meanwhile other developers are focusing on Denuvo.
A few years ago Ubisoft’s CEO claimed that 93%-95% of PC gamers were pirating their games. I don’t know how they tracked that but one thing that can’t be tracked is how many of those PC gamers would be buying their games if they couldn’t get them for free. That’s why they spend money on DRM. I suspect the majority of pirates wouldn’t be buying their games because they are too poor but it’s unknown to the Publisher so they play it safe and put the DRM on their games.
you bet more than half of them were console sales from witcher 3
42% of sales are Steam sales. 4.5 mln for Witcher 2, 3,27 mln for original Witcher and 2,84 mln for Witcher 3, thats excluding expansions. Add to this GOG sales, Witcher 2 sales of physical copies and etc, PC has over 50% share here. Mostly because TW2 and TW were not available on consoles, but still.
What is this sorcery? A game selling 25 million copies without spending a dime on DRM? Impossible!
All the lighting was pre baked though in Unity. The original Witcher 3 demo seemed to have dynamic lighting , which is a lot more intensive.
When witcher 3 was announced and when I looked at the reveal trailer I was so excited and actually thought this would be the next crysis( graphics wise).
Then they reveal that it’s on consoles too and at that moment I knew all my hopes for “that” witcher 3 was gonna get crushed.
My fault too. Got all three Witcher copies on Steam, GOG and even had a key from a 970 backthere… haha
goVEGAN
Eat Meat
I do eat..almost weekly…girls meat! haha
Ahh i see you’re a man of culture
Good for CDPR. One of the best developers around imo. I don’t know how many of those sales were for consoles but even if 1/3 of those sales are for PC it would be considered good. The lesson for publishers is to make a high quality game and people will buy it.
Last I heard something like 40% of total sales was on the PC platform ^^
Not that it’ll make a difference to Square Turds, U-BE-SOFT, or Electronic Assh*les, regardless, they’re far too fixed in their moronic ways to give a sh*t about changing.
42% of sales are Steam sales. 4.5 mln for Witcher 2, 3,27 mln for original Witcher and 2,84 mln for Witcher 3, thats excluding expansions.
Sh*t, good point.
Also, it’s worth pointing out, that’s also excluding GOG numbers, which, undoubtedly, are sizeable.
Nice 😀
You do know there’s more about a game than just graphics itself right? Have you heard of something called optimization? If the downgraded version of TW3 requires a GTX 1060 to run at 60 fps/high/1080p can you imagine what a non-downgraded version would require?
hate to agree but yes, unity is still one of the best looking games ever. nothing will ever ever top the interior details that game had. incredible stuff.
good for them, and GOG
i hope that one day, we can all enjoy a DRM-free gaming experince with no non-sense good bang for the buck expansion/DLC standards
the witcher 3 blood and wine had more content than any of 2016’s games and it was only a 20$ expansion
had it been an EA/UBISOFT game they would’ve charged 60$ for it and called it a new game
the sole fact remains, CDPR is the BEST gaming company to date and to PC gamers in general, i’ve never seen a company who’s so focused on consumer satisfaction so much
unlike what we have today on steam, early access and microtransactions galore
CDPR restored my faith in the gaming industry
…and no company deserves it more, I hope CDred never lives long enough to see themselves become the villain. Amazing company
