The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Ray Tracing Update releases on December 14th

CD Projekt RED has announced that the free next-gen Ray Tracing update for The Witcher 3 will release on December 14th. As said, this patch will add Ray Tracing effects to the game, and will be completely free to all owners of the base game.

As the team noted, the Next-Gen version will feature dozens of visual, performance, and technical enhancements over the original. Alongside RT, the game will include a variety of mods from the get-go.

We do know that CDPR approached Hulk-Hogan, creator of the HD Rework Project. As such, we can assume that the Next-Gen version will have enhanced HD textures.

Unfortunately, CDPR did not share any additional details about the Ray Tracing effects. However, and since Cyberpunk 2077 will be almost path-traced with its Overdrive RT settings, we can assume that these RT effects will be something more than RT reflections or RT shadows.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Witcher with overload of water puddles… lets hope not!
Would be great if they use global illumination rather than the annoying water puddle crap.

  2. It sounds like a rather limited effort, with the devs concentrating on implementing RT, while the rest will be incorporated mods.

Curious what they will do to the game’s lighting system. I think having full-blown GI is unlikely, but maybe they’ll implement and adjust some of the lighting mods that made the Witcher 3 look closer to the E3 demo before the downgrade happened.

    1. Thank you, there was no Fuqing RT involved in the E3 Demo. Now all I hear is RT this and RT that. RT is the juice that’s not worth the squeeze.
