It’s no secret that the 2020 Remake of XIII was a big disappointment. Thankfully, though, PC gamers can still play the original version. And, for a limited time, GOG is giving away free copies of XIII.
XIII was one of the first cel-shaded games that meet commercial success. The game features comic book like narration, aiming to bring the experience of the acclaimed comic book to life on your computer.
Now as with all of GOG releases, XIII is DRM-free. So, basically, you are getting a free copy of the game without any DRM at all.
You can acquire your free copy from here. Since this is a limited free offer, we suggest getting your free copy while you still can.
Have fun!

the better version is free? good
Better? The only definitive version!
The REMAKE should be avoided like a plague. Full of bugs and gameplay glitches. The original is far better, and still remains a good old school FPS.
The original version of the XIII video game is still remembered as both a novelty and a cult classic. Unless PlayMagic follows through with its intended roadmap of updates and bug fixes to make this game more enjoyable, the remake of XIII will only be remembered as an uncomfortable attempt at reintroducing the series to a new generation, one which is sadly more likely to turn new fans away than draw them in.
I’m starting to feel now that the whole gaming industry is slowly on the verge of collapse.
Remake. Reboot. Remake. Reboot Rinse and repeat.
Hey, I own the original, but am unable to install it on Win 10 and my Win 7 pc is too lame to run it properly, so that ones a no go. Any suggestions?
Oh, actually I don’t have this game with me right now, I lost my CD retail disk long back, but I used to play this game on Windows XP and 7 OS.
Never tried on Windows 10.OS, but what error message are u getting during the installation process ? Do you have the game on STEAM, or it is a Retail disk ?
Have you tried installing in “Compatibility mode” under Windows 10 OS ? But since you told you are unable to install the game, then there are 2 outcomes.
First the installer either closes itself, and/or you might get an error or warning message during the installation process.
BTW, what are your Windows 7 PC specs ? Because this game is not very demanding on the hardware, so you should be fine even if you have a low-end RIG.
GOG version fixes compatibility issues
“I’m starting to feel now that the whole gaming industry is slowly on the verge of collapse.”
I’ve felt this way for the better part of 4 or 5 years now.
Never under estimate the stupidity of the average public, as they continue to fuel this abomination of an industry though. It won’t be collapsing anytime soon.
At this point, I would openly welcome a complete collapse. A complete reset and implosion of all the major cancerous companies, and liquidation of their IPs to smaller entities.
That is kind of a subjective question but yeah if you like old school first-person shooters then it is worth it. By 2003’s standard this game is still much better than the recent AA/AAA FPS titles we have been getting lately.
I mean I’m not saying the game is really awesome, but it’s not THAT bad either. There are a lot of missions to complete, and some levels are too linear and scripted, but for the most part the game can be fun to play, at least in my opinion though.
You also get 16 different weapons as well !
Btw, since the game was made using Unreal Engine 2, the graphics are also okay. Though, the game is still technically flawed to some extent, and the actual gameplay can be pretty mundane and monotonous at times.
Definitely not a very polished FPS, but overall the 2003 title is still better than the new 2020 Remake, which is an abomination.
I agree,, Btw, speaking of the DOOM franchise, Id Software plans to create more rich stories; even if Doom Eternal bids farewell to the Slayer saga.
The latest “Ancient Gods Part 2” expansion for Doom Eternal the Slayer’s story arc might have come to a conclusion, but it’s not the end of the Doom franchise. Doom Eternal will not be the last Doom game in the series.
This is coming directly from Doom Eternal producer Marty Stratton via a recent interview with Polygon, and 3D Juegos.
Though, I doubt the next DOOM game will live up to everyone’s expectations, and will also continue the same old school Doom formula, because I have a strong feeling ID Software may ruin this series.
I would even go as far as to say that ID has already ruined the series with Eternal. I’m not sure it’s possible but if they could somehow incorporate dash mechanic from Eternal into DOOM (2016) but make it less overpowered (maybe limit it to one dash and extend the cooldown) then it would be near perfect.
It is true that playing 2016 after Eternal the former feels sluggish due to lacking that freedom of movement that dash brings. Maybe that felt so jarring when you compared both games head to head. I need to replay it now that a year has passed since I played either of them.
But IMO Eternal has its own heap of problems with needless platforming to ammo limits and more childish enemy design.
it is free so what do you have to lose? Price is unbeatable and worth it.
Much better than the dreadful remaster
Did you play the game though ?
Years ago on the ps2 when it released had a good time not an amazing fps but the visuals makes it stand out and help this game stay timeless
Original is better than the cheesy remaster and highres already with dgvoodoo wrapper.
I tried the original on steam when the remake was launched, and had to refund it.
Even with all the mods there was no way to make the game run well enough to be enjoyable.
And I really wanted to, played the game back when I was a kid.
I tried it on GOG a while back, but refunded it.
The framerate was bad and it had terrible mouse lag.
Maybe a mod could fix it though.
I played the original a decade ago, and it was bad as in very bad (especially compared to the FPS games you could find at the moment; and i’ve played stuff like RTC Wolfenstein & No One Lives Forever & Soldier of Fortune 2). To think it was UBISOFT that published this… I thought back then that this was likely being given on Cereal Boxes.
