Now here is a pleasant surprise. Night Dive Studios has released a new patch for System Shock 2 that comes with various improvements and modernisations, as well as some fixes. This patch is only available for the Windows version of the game, however Mac and Linux will receive it really soon.
According to the release notes, this patch disables by detaulf Enhanced Precision as it was causing issues with Steam Overlay and Windows 10, renames the executable file from Shock2.exe to SS2.exe to avoid old Windows compatibilities being applied on game launch, sets WASD as the starting controls, and sets the in-game UI at a fixed resolution that will scale better at high (1920×1080 and above) resolutions.
This patch will be auto-downloaded from Steam, and you can read its complete changelog below.

Man, Night Dive really takes care of their customers. They go above and beyond for most of their releases.
Now just drop in a VR option and I’ll reinstall.
Man this with graphics mods and VR…holy crap that would be scary and AMAZING at the same time!
sure if your brain doenst explode when you try to drag and drop items to the inventory.
Pretty impressive that they’re patching the game considering it’s 18 years old but it truly is a classic imo.
This is a patch for their re-release from a couple years ago. It’s not for the original DOS version.
There never was a DOS version
I was curious where that comment came from too. DOS games make me think of the 1980’s. I was around then and played more that a few on a 8086 IBM XT with CGA graphics and later on with a Pentium 33 MHz PC with Windows 3.1 but I don’t remember SS2 being one of those. I think GOG uses DOSBox for the really old games but Steam has the game too so I would think it’s a Windows 95/98 compatible game.
System Shock 2 was released in 1999. DOS era very much ended when Glide and Direct3D happened – not to mention 1999 was a year when Glide itself died. Maybe he confused it with System Shock 1, which was a DOS game from 1993.
I just don’t like how they added micro-transactions
wat?
They realy care about this masterpiece.
what year is this?
The patch is for Nite Dive’s re-release not the original DOS version.
