And it was bound to happen. The moment PureDark started implementing a DRM to his DLSS 3 mods, we knew that someone would attempt to crack it. And, in just one day, crackers were able to provide a working crack for the DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod of Starfield.
I seriously can’t believe what’s happening right now in the PC gaming space. On one hand, you have Bethesda collaborating with AMD and skipping the best upscaling technique. On the other hand, you have modders trying to make some money by releasing paid mods. And now we have people cracking paid mods. What in hell?
Anyway, for those wondering, we can confirm that the crack for the Starfield DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod works. However, we won’t allow links to the actual file. I’m pretty sure that most of you will be able to find it on your own. We’ll be also deleting comments that link to it (so don’t waste your time and effort).
As I wrote in my PC Performance Analysis, Starfield is one of the most multi-threaded PC games we’ve seen to date. For what it’s worth, our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D did not bottleneck us even at 1080p/Ultra. However, we are certain that older CPUs may have trouble running the game with over 60fps (let alone 100fps). And that’s where DLSS 3 Frame Generation comes. By using DLSS 3, RTX 40 series owners can significantly improve their performance.
Speaking of Starfield, I also suggest downloading this mod which resolves the game’s elevated black levels/washed-out graphics. You can also use this guide in order to increase your FOV. Then we have an easier-to-use FSR 2.0 to DLSS 2.0 Mod (that a lot of RTX 20 and 30 series owners will appreciate. You can find it in the pinned comment).

He released the DLSS 2.0 mod for free as a show of good faith. Indipendant devs needs supporting and we should be going out of our way to help them. $4.50/8.50 for the mod is trivial and a lot less then some morons spend on weapon skins or horse armor.

That’s a nice idea, but the publishers and developers of the game itself tolerate modding because it is free. If they got wind of a modder directly profiting then they would take legal action and crack down on mods for the game in general (see Nintendo and Rockstar).
I feel a bit convoluted, call me entitled, but in my opinion it would be better for a modder to getting paid for research purpose and then released it for free when finished. Pure Dark did the right thing with his paid DLSS2 model, he just a bit to far by locking DLSS3 mod by released it only to his community and then adding DRM on top of it. Its just unethical, imagione if nekotekina (from rPCSX3) lock the emulator for his patreon only and then adding DRM on top of it… I dont know, when passion are not the main purpose seems a bit off for me

The commenters here and on Reddit are feeling entitled and know-it-all. If it’s that easy to mod DLSS and Frame Generation, why is no one else doing it? You can buy 40-series RTX cards but can’t dish out a one-time 5$ fee to access all his DLSS mods. You can buy a 100$ early access to a game but 5$ is too much for someone doing what the devs should have been doing in the first place? If it was you in PureDark’s shoes, you would do the same if you have his skills. Hell, you might even be worse than him and put a higher price for your mods. You keep yapping his mods should be free and the NVIDIA SDK which is available to the public is not his property, then do it yourself? Release your own DLSS and FG mods.

Here’s the thing. You have to stand against sh*tty behavior or it becomes the norm. Do you apologists really want to pay for mods in the future that may work today but when you go back to replay a game in a few years they don’t work or paid mods that might not play well together with other mods?
The bottom line is re-direct your focus to the real problem. Developers that limit a game’s potential due to being too lazy or selling out to AMD to implement necessary features is the real problem.
Don’t buy Starfield until Bethesda gets their head out of their a*s and stops sh*tting all over you.

I honestly read that wrong and I thought that the Nvidia lock of DLSS3 has been cracked and is now working on all RTX GPU’s we all know Nvidia is just saying bullshit and that they are just locking it up on the RTX4000 series to make it look like a better buy than it actually is who knows it might come soon as people has been able to finally unlock the BIOS encryption and we can no do BIOS mods again so if Nvidia won’t give it to us maybe hackersmodders can.
I have no problem with modders paywalling their mods; in fact, I would like to see more modders get paid for their work. However, putting DRM on a mod is literally the most hypocritical and scummiest thing ever, and I’m glad the mod got cracked!

this dude releasing a mod with a DRM is just asking for it to be cracked, i’m certain he would’ve been better off asking for donations and patreon support than pissing people off, the word DRM & MOD just rubs people the wrong way, this is modding career suicide
I can’t believe mods are now Paywall locked remember when that Reshade RT addon was supposed to come out for free yet here we are many many years later and it is still locked on his patreon with no free version in sight.
