STALKER 2 is in design document phase, announcement was made to find a publisher at E3 2018

Sergiy Grygorovych, head of GSC GameWorld, surprised everyone when he announced that a new STALKER game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, is currently under development. And while the team targets a 2021 release, it has not secured any publisher yet.

In the 222 episode of the “How to make games” podcast, Epic Games’ director of publishing, Sergey Galyonkin, revealed that STALKER 2 is now in its design document phase and that the game was announced early so that GSC GameWorld could find a publisher at E3 2018. As Galyonkin noted, GSC GameWorld will use the media’s attention and hype surrounding the announcement of STALKER 2 in order strike a publishing deal.

Galyonkin  also revealed that the team that is currently working on STALKER 2 is a separate that was not involved in the development of Cossacks 3, and some of its members have worked on the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.

Out guess is that GSC GameWorld  will go radio silence for the next couple of years, however, we kind of hope to hear at least something about STALKER 2 at this year’s E3 event.

  1. >announcement made to find a publisher

Welp, goodbye PC game, hello console designed crippled game.

    1. There are many PC centric publishers like Paradox, Focus Interactive, Devolver, THQ nordic so there is hope 🙂

      1. The only one out of these that os truly PC centric is Paradox, the others makes
most of their games designed for consoles and controlers.

        1. Designing a game for PC and releasing a game for PC with good support aren’t the same thing.

A game designed for PC is meant to be played on a PC, with console versions being merely an afterthought. It’s whole control scheme, UI and gameplay mechanics build from the ground up to take full advantage of a Keyboard and Mouse. You can tell me CDPR is a PC centric developer all you want, but all their games after Witcher 1 were, and will continue to be made with controller’s limitation in mind, the gameplay mechanics were simplified and the UI and invetory sistems simplified for easier navigation with a controller.

That’s why you almost never see PC strategy games making the jump to multiplatform, because if they did they’d have to overhaul the entire game’s mechanics, controls and UI to accomodate for a controller’s limitation, and that would probably cause a major backlash from consumers. The ones that do usually die, like Command and Conquer.

Stalker is one such game that would see its gameplay features, mechanics, UI and inventory sistems streamlined and simplified for controllers. They can add unlocked framerate, mod support, support for multiple graphic cards, a billion graphical options and all that sh*t, the game’s entire core would still be built for consoles and controllers.

      2. If I see it being mentioned for consoles after they find a publisher, I’ll know I was on the money.

      1. Do tell me of a publisher that will make sure the game is designed for PC, I’m willing to wait.

  2. I did good when I set my hopes below ground when he announced it.

Let’s see what happens in the future then. There are and there will be other games to play through these years…and hopefully Gunslinger mode will get finished by this year for CoP.

  3. It was certainly a surprise to me. Not something I thought would ever happen. I hope they do a good job on the game and it should be a financial success. Maybe more Stalker goodness will follow after this game if it turns out well.

  4. I can’t wait for this title! Just the idea of playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 after so long in hiatus is like a dream come true at this point.

  5. There must be a reason they are going this way instead of crowfunding, pretty sure they can get the money from the fans if they ask for.
