PHASE ZERO, a new Resident Evil-inspired 32-bit horror game, gets a free demo to try

Resident Evil fans, here is something for you today. SPINA Studio has released a demo for its new Resident Evil-inspired 32-bit horror game, PHASE ZERO. The demo is available on Steam, and you can download it right now.

If you haven’t heard about it yet, PHASE ZERO is a brand-new game that brings back the classic horror game style from the late 1990s. It uses 32-bit graphics and fixed camera angles, just like the old-school PlayStation 1 games. It’s made as a tribute to famous horror games like Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, and Dino Crisis. So, if you enjoy scary games with that retro feel, this one might be perfect for you.

PHASE ZERO is being made to look and feel just like those older games. It has pre-rendered backgrounds, which means the environments are made ahead of time like a painting or photo. This gives the game a unique, old-fashioned look that fans of classic survival horror will recognize right away.

The game also uses fixed camera angles. This means the camera doesn’t follow the player like in most modern games. Instead, it switches from one angle to another as you move through different areas. This creates a more cinematic feeling and adds to the tension, especially in tight or dark spaces.

Another thing to know is that PHASE ZERO keeps the 32-bit art style, just like the games that came out on the original PlayStation console. So, don’t expect super detailed 3D graphics. Instead, expect something that looks a bit pixelated and low-resolution, in a cool, nostalgic way.

From the gameplay footage we’ve seen, the game will also use tank controls. This means that pressing “up” moves your character forward, no matter which way they’re facing. You turn your character left or right to change direction. Some players love this old-school control style, while others find it a bit hard to get used to. Either way, it fits the retro theme of the game perfectly.

In PHASE ZERO, two survivors try to escape with their lives as mysterious creatures roam the streets of Flint Peak. Players will face horrific monsters, solve puzzles, and escape the town in this classic survival horror.

The demo will allow players to step into the snowy nightmare of Flint Peak and experience the first 30-40 minutes of it. In the demo, you’ll play as Guy, a mechanical engineer who wakes up in a hospital just as the grotesque outbreak begins to tear the town apart.

IGN has also shared a video, showcasing 10 minutes of gameplay from it. So, if you are not in the mood to download the demo, you can take a look at the video.

The devs have also shared the minimum PC requirements for the game. PC gamers will at least need a quad-core Intel or AMD CPU with a clock speed of at least 2.5 GHz. They’ll also need 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 or AMD Radeon R9 280.

In other words, the game will run on wide range of PC systems. This is to be expected. After all, this is a tribute to 32-bit games.

You can go ahead and download the demo from this link.
