MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries announced, coming to the PC in 2018, gets pre-alpha footage

Piranha Games announced MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries to a packed house of MechWarrior fans tonight via a live stage demo at Mech_Con 2016. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be the first standalone single-player MechWarrior title in development for PC in nearly 15 years, and will feature intense PvE ‘Mech combat in an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice.

Featuring an advancing timeline starting in the year 3015, players will adopt the role of a green MechWarrior mercenary thrust into combat as the Third Succession War continues to fracture the Inner Sphere; the vast region of colonized space surrounding Earth. Victory, prestige, and profit will not only require skill on the battlefield, but in the maintenance and enhancement of your BattleMechs.

Set for release in 2018, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is under development by a dedicated and separate development team at Piranha Games using Unreal Engine 4. MechWarrior Online, Piranha’s existing F2P multiplayer-focused tactical ‘Mech combat game (built with CryEngine) will continue its ongoing live development by the MWO team at Piranha.

Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, said:

“Our main goal with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is to provide fans with a standalone, story-driven single-player experience that allows for a great amount of flexibility in terms of player choice, built on a foundation of the intense, tactical ‘Mech combat the franchise is known for. Along with the release of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries in 2018 we’re going to continue supporting our existing MechWarrior Online game and its fanbase with new updates and regular content releases. MWO is now in its fifth year of development and operation, and there’s still a lot of really cool stuff planned for it. For fans who have been waiting for the return of a true single-player MechWarrior game though, we are really happy to announce MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries.”

Enjoy!

    1. Seems you know alot about the series, will i be able to use mechs without arms? You know with the oversized cannons?

      1. Depends on how faithful the lead designers are to the classic series. Hopefully they opt for a logical removal of “robot hands” for mounted weapons, like MW4.

  1. This game is so overdue. The gameplay already looks great even from such an early version. I hope the FOV is adjustable though, it seemed quite low like console standard in the video.

      1. Normally I wouldn’t either, but the past few years are telling me that the console side buys up their exclusives and refuse to let those go for years, sometimes never, while devs on PC just shrug and take console marketing and exclusivity money, leaving PC screwed.

It becomes irksome when consolites bring up list wars, then when you try to bring up your own, it then becomes moot when devs on PC have been taking that exclusivity money and bringing the game to other systems.

  2. HELL YEA, finally a new mech game that isnt Hawken(although pretty decent). I feel like this genre disappeared for a while. hopefully this will be a step in the direction of a comeback for the genre. I LOVE ME SOME MECH ON MECH ACTION!!!!

      1. It had destructibility, didn’t it? That automatically makes it better than this game which is clearly all static.

  3. Idiots! They messed it up again! People don’t want this They want exactly what MW1, MW2, MW3, MW3 Mercs, MW4, and MW4 Mercs was: A SINGLE GAME, with BOTH a single player campaign AND a multiplayer mode with all the standard bells & whistles! All-inclusive!

Not one or the other. Both, you morons!! This is my MWO sucks, and why this game.. in 2018… will be fun for a week, then FORGOTTEN.

Unless the geniuses at Piranha realize this and don’t make the SAME MISTAKE in consecutive MECHWARRIOR TITLES.
