Last week, we informed you about Microsoft’s plans to release the map making tools for Halo 5 on the PC. Well, get ready everyone as it appears that all future Halo and Gears of War games will be coming to the PC. Or at least that’s what Kotaku claimed.
As Kotaku reported:
“Developer sources have told us that Microsoft’s new mandate is to release future games – including the flagship Halo series – on both platforms. The recently-cancelled Fable Legends, which was playable across Windows 10 and Xbox One, was one of the first games to implement this strategy.”
As always, take this with a grain of salt. Moreover, this does not mean that Halo 5 will be coming to the PC. The report is about all future Microsoft games and not those that have already been released on Xbox One as exclusives.
Still, and if this report is legit, we can safely say that Gears of War 4 will be coming to the PC!

LOL DISKLESS.
LOL DISKLESS.
LOL DISKLESS.
– Oh f*ck me I can’t stop –
LOL DISKLESS
LOL DIS-
What we really need is a handholdless console. No, not what you’re thinking. I mean, a console where no game holds your hand. And also it comes with mouse and keyboard support. And also you pick the hardware parts.
are you 5?
Close, I see an Xturd Steaming pile Conslow coming soon….
dont you have a skin to buy some where.go play your esport.
Valve and Microsoft hate each other. Heard of Steam OS? Heard of the Windows Store aka GFWL 2.0? It’s more likely that Trump will nominate Hillary to be his VP.
Where in the quote does it say Gears of War? Or even in the article?
lol
The Gears bit was removed as it was an error (as in not official).
windows store..
Yup. Definitely.
That’s great news. Windows Store = Cross Buy between X1 nad PC
MS said that will merge Windows Store and Xbox Live Store in one shared store with cross buy.
Still requires an upgrade to Windows 10.
Still not upgrading to Windows 10.
Still not interested in using Windows Store.
Still not interested in Microsoft’s walled UWP garden.
Still not – yeah, you get the point.
If you don’t like games like Forza, Gears, Halo then don’t buy it. Simple.
windows 10 is honestly fine
I thought windows 10 is meehh then I tried ahh best windows now for me 3sec boot time lol, and more tools to use on pc I say try it youl love it
So what kind of world are you going to live in? 10 plus newer versions of windows will be the same basically? If you think linux or mac have a chance then lol, been hearing that since the mid 90’s.
Right now I think myself & most people are just waiting to see what happens next with Microsoft. However, the more pressure they put us under to “Install, Upgrade, Comply!”, the more I see annoyed people speaking up on forums over all the “Microsoft-sponsored harassment” as one guy put it.
Right now Microsoft still believes Windows 10 can be a “long-term investment” in the same style as Windows XP & Windows 7, & they’re making the mistake of fighting hard to make it that, instead of just letting it evolve as it does, all because they set ridiculous public expectations for adoption rates.
Unfortunately for them, even with all their nagging & “carrot-dangling”, adoption rates continue to be sh*te, the controversies aren’t dying down, & that continues to scare the piss out of them. Windows 10 was supposed to be the answer to Windows 8. Instead, it just made things even worse.
As such, the way I see it, either Microsoft misses its adoption rate goals hard & subsequently releases “Windows 11” to save face with the public, or they continue blindly rampaging down the road they’re already on, until something (anything, really) that’s not called Windows starts eating into their OS shares.
I suggest you try it, maybe on another partition or something. It’s a direct upgrade from win 8/8.1, which was a direct upgrade from win7, ok you may not have liked the metro sh*t, neither did i, but in terms of performance and everything, was an upgrade. Don’t mind that stuff about privacy regard w10, it’s mostly bullsh*t, and also, even if it was true, why would you be so worried about it?
Something about EU Privacy Laws & how they probably don’t cover us willingly giving our data to Microsoft, who definitely willingly hands it over to the NSA.
Hey, just because they get all our data, doesn’t mean we have to make it easier for them to get all our data. Not to mention how Microsoft can still force-update your PC, even if you tell them not to.
As for the Spyware, there’s plenty of articles detailing how Microsoft still collects a lot of data even after you tell them not to, so yeah….. not quite as bullsh*t as one would think.
I don’t care for the aesthetics either, anyway. They were a major turn-off with Windows 8 (even after they fixed the Start Menu), & they continue to be with Windows 10.
I concede they both have performance gains, but they’re just not worth the trade-off, & continue to not be. Not even with DX12 thrown in.
They could’ve done that even with w7, but we just don’t and won’t know, but again, i saw no real proof of this stuff, but i surely noticed plenty of useless features and the infuriating, annoying phone style design.
But honestly, the performance gain is probably not worth for you but is in fact a very good reason, and don’t forget dx12 has just come out, give it time i bet it’ll get far better than it is. Linux was never an alternative, not till now, maybe vulkan, we’ll see.
Considering how Vulkan is far more flexible than DX12, I wouldn’t be surprised.
But yeah, we’ll see.
trust me man, i’d love to see ms monopoly go down, but well it’s been how much now? 25 yrs of supremacy? it’s a bit unlikely
Yeah, that’s the question, isn’t it.
IBM, Blockbuster, etc. they used to be massive, then they refused to adapt, fell behind & got left behind. Microsoft is (arguably) going to end its supremacy at some point, but question is, when? Now? In 10 years? In 15? 30?
One day, one day…
Vulkan is good API, faster than OpenGL… but it is slower than DirectX
What a conclusive conclusion to reach…… based on the findings of…… oh, one game. >.>
In DOTA 2 Vulkan is also slower than DirectX. I think that all games in Vulkan will be slower than DirectX because they aren’t optimized for single OS. Vulkan must run on many different system so it must be more generic. More generic = less optimization = slower
Vulkan will be good for Linux
DirectX for Windows
and Metal for Mac OS
Even if so, Vulkan runs on far more Operating Systems than DX12, & according to Crytek porting from Vulkan to DX12 is ridiculously simple. If so, there’s really no reason for most Developers not to start with Vulkan, & then port their coding over to DX12 for the Windows 10 people.
Go to a site like Guru3D and look at the downloads for things like Nvidia or AMD video drivers. They are all listed by OS. Windows 10 64 downloads beat Win 7 64 by a factor of 3:1. So you saying “most people” are waiting to see about Windows 10 is pure BS. Windows 10 IS NOT Vista and by and large people are liking Win 10. I understand that the forums here are full of Microsoft haters but I simply don’t get it. I agree the the limitations right now on with UWP needs to be addressed and i firmly believe that the issues will be fixed. Microsoft very obviously listens to their customers (look at what the feedback did for the XBOX ONE at launch). I am no fanboi for MS but i also don’t have an irrational hatred of the either. Bill Gates didn’t break into my house and rape my wife or beat my dog. By the way people talk in these forums i would expect that something of that magnatude happened to thrm. For Christs sake they make an OS and try to give us great entertainment. I don’t see where the hate comes from. …
….. Because most people manually download their Drivers from the Internet, instead of just letting their Nvidia GeForce Experience/AMD Catalyst Programs notify them of updates? Yes, Windows 10 is popular, it picked up a sizeable install base in the beginning, but it’s not “the next Windows 7” as it was intended to be, by a long shot.
The Xbox One thing wasn’t some sort of controversial implementation, it was a global, unified response of “f*ck you, I’m not buying your Sh*tbox with those limitations, not when Sony’s box doesn’t have them.” Microsoft literally had no choice but to back the f*ck off, or face a disastrous launch which their Console would never recover from. Hell, even after they backed off the Xbox One was still affected.
Microsoft has repeatedly screwed over their customers, & has on many occasions gone out of their way to literally force us to either do things their way, or lose out. They have spent years (not to say decades) building up their reputation as one of the most untrustworthy Tech Companies in the world, & they repeatedly continue to build a case against themselves with their shady business practices, time after time, after time.
Not that they care of course, those arrogant idiots believe they’re infallible, indestructible, & almighty, “because we’re Microsoft. We’re the best!”
“Windows 10 is popular, it picked up a sizeable install base in the beginning, but it’s not the next Windows 7”
You’re right. Windows 10 is far more popular than Windows 7. Check Steam Survey. Windows 7 is old system without DirectX 12.
Windows 7 was good but very old OS, its like Android 2.3. Many people said that Android 2.3 was best Android version but now they use Android 4 (some people even Android 5).
Haven’t we already discussed this before?
Steam Survey is a ridiculously inaccurate way to calculate such things, as it represents, at best, 70% of the World’s Gaming Population. It can show you a general trend in the PC Gaming Community, but it can’t definitively state anything.
Besides, your numbers are off;
– Windows 10 (64-bit); 38.18%. (No Win 32 version)
– Windows 7 (64-bit); 32.53% + Windows 7 (32-bit); 7.01% = 39.54%.
– Windows 8.1 (64-bit); 11.89% + Windows 8.1 (32-bit); 0.34% = 12.23%.
– Windows 8 (64-bit); 1.60% + Windows 8 (32-bit); 0.15% = 1.75%.
Also, while Windows 10 has 38.18% of the market, according to the GPU section, only 33.52% of users have Windows 10 + a DX12-compatible GPU. Regardless, I think we can agree the amount of DX12 GPU’s is only going to go up, so that’s really only worth so much.
However, on the other hand, Windows 7, 8, & 8.1 have a combined 53.52% of the market, & the “DX12 GPU & pre-Windows 10” category accounts for a whopping 37.38%. Not to mention the 12.79% of users that still fall into the “DX11 GPU & Vista+” category. Hell, even DX10 GPU’s are still popular, at a fascinating 12.66%.
In summary; While Windows 10 is indeed the single most popular OS in the Steam Userbase (since Windows 7 is broken down between 32 & 64 bit, whereas Windows 10 isn’t), it overall epically fails to seize the majority by a long shot, with DX12-compatible GPU’s trailing it even further.
Besides that, you misinterpreted what I said; Windows 7 launched to epic fanfare, & within 12 months was rampaging through adoption rates. Windows 10 opened well, but dropped off very quickly, & has fallen way behind in adoption rates the last few months. As such, while it may eventually reach a major adoption rate, it is currently by far not the next Windows 7, nor is it on track to be anytime soon.
The only OSs that really matter is the 64 bits version, because lets face it, no PC that uses a 32bit OS will run the current gen games. Its the same for computers that still uses Vista 64bits. So the only versions that really matter are Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7, all 64 bits. Considering that Windows 10 have less than a year it really got a lot of market share for current gen games. In the next year it’ll be the major OS for that no doubt.
Assuming adoption rate growth continues in sizeable numbers after the 12-month “free upgrade” period expires, which I seriously doubt.
Most people that want it have already upgraded. There’ll probably be a small “last minute” upgrade spike, but other than that, Win 10 will then be primarily reliant on people who’re waiting on new PC’s to switch over to Win 10.
Please tell me you’re hvd’s alt account
Crossbuy hasn’t been implemented yet and probably won’t be for some time.
Still a pain but it’s getting better. Now that the Vsync crap is fixed it’s playable.
Getting better? Ha. I thought are supposed to get an OS that will temp us to upgrade, not make us question it.
If its not good enough, dont release it yet. I have zero reasons to update, and nothing that screams ” UPDATE TO W10 NOWWW!”
They can only deny them Official Support for Windows 7 though, they can’t force the entire Internet to not distribute custom-made support Patches for Windows 7.
Unfortunately they’re too childish to realize that (or most likely they just don’t care), so yeah.
I truly feel you.
Simply incorrect.
Pretty much, your source is bullshit.
This is coming from digital foundry.
After patch performance is even better and I’m not even showing Fury X performance but r9 390 performance.
Seems to be just a 970 issue because the 980TI doesn’t have issues like that. People who say NVIDIA cards just bad in QB are wrong because not all do. I mean it’s just one game where performance is just crap on Ultra for some reason, while medium is runs 60FPS+.
I’m not trying to prove that Nvidia is bad, just that QB performance is definitely good for AMD.
Yeah, the GTX 970 just seems odd though, not sure if it’s VRAM related.

Upvoted for the epic GIF.
Well the comment i made was meant for the vsync patch. I’m sure you know what i’m talking about. Whatever your fps, if vsync is forced it’s garbage. Now that we can use freesync/gsync it’s much more fluid. But looking at those fps on the video you posted, performances are underwhelming indeed.
Please, I don’t want the future halo games. Give us instead the remaster collection with reach and odst. I really couldn’t care less about the 343 games even if I try.
Well I do. To each his own.
Bungie always did it better.
Why not both. Just because you liked the Bungie titles doesn’t mean we can’t also have the 343 ones. Why’s it always a pick and choose with you people.
Exactly, f*ck 343. Instead of “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” just give us “Halo: The Bungie Collection.”
Then again, either way, they’d be Windows 10-bound, so yeah…….. >.<
To me this news is nothing considering it is only viable if you are locked to Win 10 and win store.
So Halo Wars 2 then?
I think that was confirmed a bit back during one of M$’s taking PC seriously speech. Which was kind of a double whammy, first that Halo Wars 2 is in development and second that it will show up on PC
CA will making it, which means broken, DLC fest, DRMs, Win10 exclusive and winstore only.
Isn’t H5 the start of new series the Reclaimers trilogy or something? I kept up on H1 -H3 then kinda lost track as I move predominately to PC gaming. But I would think it would be good business for M$ to release the Master Chief collection followed by H5 on PC, in this way it can let those that are interested get a chance to get aquanted with the series and its history.
It doesn’t make sense to watch say LotR 3rd movie and not being able to watch the first two, so with gaming it would only make sense for us to be able to play 1-5.
If Halo 5 is actually intended as a “reboot” then no, they wouldn’t need to give you any games prior to 5.
Alternatively; If Halo 5 is actually intended as a “reboot”, then there’s no point in keeping 1-3 + Reach away from us any longer 😀
But it isn’t though, that’s the issue.
Yes your correct halo 5 is the start of the Reboot and the new trilogy. Honestly i don’t know why MS is so hesitant to put Halo5 on PC? I mean we have the Gears Reboot, QB, Forza, so why all the BS on Halo? Unless they are nervous about releasing it in a unpolished state and want to get it right the first time.’
Minimum requirement pc: Titan Pascal 12 Gb, 32 gb ram DDR4, Cpu i76700k. For a cr**p port by Microsoft
DX12 utilizes many CPU threads…so you’ll need a 6950X instead.
Beyond that, the Pascal Titan will be a 16GB card. 😛
Kotaku? lol….
Halo MCC and reach is the only games i would want anyways, everything else just felt like a desperate ploy to keep the series relevant.
Id be happier with just Halo 3. Everything after that including the MCC was utter trash. 343 suck.
Reach was already a step down from 3. 3 was the last real Halo game, everything else was just lazy cash cow milking, including that overrated FULL PRICE addon ODST. Would have been okay at half price but 60 bucks for a reskin of Halo 3 with a short campaign and a hacked together enemy wave survival game mode? Come on! When people gobbled that up and actually praised it I knew Halo was going to go downhill fast. And that’s exactly what happened. Reach was the last Bungie title, gimped the physics engine for muh particle effects, introduced lengthy melee animations, “armor abilities” in multiplayer and ruined the general aesthetics by trying to be “gritty”. And soon after a team of complete hacks took over and turned Halo into COD. Moral of the story: Even games that start on consoles get ruined because consoles.
Microsoft announced that all future xbox titles would also be coming to the pc. We dont need an article for every single game guys.
Who cares… wamp.
??????????
Seems like we’ll have to rely on Eldewrito to get a Halo game without the constraints of that wretched UWP.
xbots gonna be mad, lmao!
They’re still negotiating with us over Win10. This is their next concession. “Okay, so Halo Wars and some Halo 5 map making tools aren’t enough of a reason. Here, you can have the actual games but only on Windows 10.”
Doesn’t change a thing. Vulkan is the better path for gaming, it works on all platforms including older Windows OS. DX12 is a solution in search of a problem, and ultimately a marketing gimmick for Windows 10. And a poor one as well because it’s actually the other way around: As long as DX12 stays Win10 exclusives no games can really take advantage of it. There is no winning move for Microsoft here. They are never going to control PC gaming, that is why they hate it and now their hatred for it has gotten so bad other companies (AMD, nvidia, Valve) are preparing a lifeboat for people to leave the hostile island.
Looking forward to Doom’s Vulkan patch, hope it comes out soon.
Exactly this. If MS truly cared about PC gaming then they wouldn’t be trying to go actively out of their way to create some artificial walled garden where competition cannot thrive, where it cannot move about freely. Instead it should be supporting the entire platform along with the API working on multiple OS’s the way Vulkan is, if they don’t start supporting their previous existing OS’s and other systems then they just face being that one side that is very closed off and small with little support.
Also cannot wait for the Vulkan patch for DOOM myself, where we will get perf gains without being locked to Win 10 and this API supporting multiple OS’s to provide us with actual choice.
I feel that MS has always had this kind of hate because it’s simply been trying to take over everything it tries to keep it;s eyes on. They entered the console market a decade and a half ago and they still haven’t managed to take home a single gen outright let alone win over people from gen to gen, now they have lost this gen entirely and ruined their image on both PC and console that they feel they can just take back PC gaming by sheer brute force, it’s never going to happen and the fanboys and corp need to understand this.
Meh. These games arent really for me but more games is a good thing I suppose. I just wish Microsoft wasnt part of the package.
i cant believe it will be here until it’s really here. tell me how many times such rumors arise and the next day microsoft denies these rumours and exclusives continue to be exclusives?
Makes no sense to release Halo 6 on PC without the first one from the new trilogy.
That’s right! That’s it… just keep crawling to us!
Cant wait to a halo and gears4 on pc! I hope Microsoft sort there windows store out and get there titles out of gate as polished as Forza and Killer Instinct, they both run and looks beautiful
