Hacker group ShinyHunters has released the Rockstar files

A few days ago, the hacker group ShinyHunters breached Rockstar Games’ servers and obtained several files. After attempting to pressure Rockstar into paying to prevent a potential leak, the group has now released all of those files onto the Internet.

The good news for Rockstar is that the leaked files have no connection to GTA 6 or any other unannounced games. So, for most gamers, this will be a nothingburger. Still, the files do contain some interesting details about GTAO and RDRO.

According to the leaked files, Red Dead Redemption 2 Online made $26 million a year. On the other hand, GTA Online makes $500 million a year. GTA Online has about 10 million active weekly users, whereas RDR Online has about 1 million.

GTA Online’s biggest playerbase is on PS5. PS4 comes in second place, followed by Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One. Finally, the PC playerbase is at the bottom.

In terms of spending it’s PS5 is the most profitable platform for Rockstar. It is then followed by Xbox Series X, PS4, and Xbox One. PC is, once again, at the bottom of the chain. According to the files, PC spending isn’t even 30% of the Xbox One spending.

Finally, US players spend more than all other countries in the top 10 combined. Not only that, but 35% of GTA Online players are still on PS4 and Xbox One.

So there you have it. This should give you an idea of why Rockstar treats PC gamers the way it does. In the grand scheme of things, PC is nowhere close to what consoles bring to the table. It’s obvious that Rockstar’s games are played mostly by console players. And this is exactly why GTA 6 will arrive on consoles first.

As I said, the leaked files do not contain any other juicy details about Rockstar or its games. I also won’t share any download links to the leaked files. If you do share a download link in the Comment section, your comment will be deleted. So, consider this your warning. If you want to read the files, you can easily find them via a simple search on Google.

Stay tuned for more!

Kudos to Resetera for sharing these leaked details
