It looks good, but it’s too expensive, 70 euros for a digital only game.
In my country 55 euro.for shared copy PC + Xbox One. What country have 70 euro price? Maybe you check ultimate edition?
Greece. Ultimate Edition costs 99,99 euros…
Wait 2-3 weeks and you will buy this game from G2A for 10-15 euro. All games sell with Xbox One bundle are very cheap on sites like G2A, Most of console owners always sell codes from bundle to buy version on disk. Codes for Gears 4 are shared between PC and Xbox so game will be cheap on G2A and other sites
Turkey, Ultimate edition costs 120,00 effin euros here…
You are greek too? Nice!!
Where do you live? Here in greece all windows store games cost 70 euros. (i mean the aaa ones like quantum break gears 4 e.t.c. Why in your country is only 55 euro? That why i will not buy it at release date. i wont pay 70 euros for a 10 hour game. i did the mistake one time with quantum break and i wont do it again.
I’m gonna get a xbox1 copy and I believe I should get a free window’s copy then associated with my account. This way I get the best of both, A nice shiny box and disk to go on my shelf and the better version of the game on PC.
I dont think the cross buy feature is available with the physical copy. I read you need to buy the game digitally.
Geeza in the picture looks like a fat Geralt.
I thought the exact same thing.
Doesn’t look bad but I wouldn’t want to have to reinstall the Xbox “app”. I’ll just wait for Windows 10 to forcefully do it for me.
Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 and Dead Rising 4 will boost shares of Windows 10 (those games are exclusive to W10 and DX12):
You always post these same images on so many articles.
I want as many people on Win10/DX12 as possible, so the peasants on old OS’s/hardware don’t hold PC gaming back (it’s bad enough with consoles constantly doing this), but you’re getting kind of annoying.
Gee, excuse me for wanting to hold off on upgrading to the ever-more intrusive Microsoft Spyware 10 for as long as possible >.>
Not to mention, DX12 is already doing a grand job of holding itself back just fine without our “peasant” help, thank you very much.
Other than that, agreed.
As I’ve said before – considering his level of dedication, I seriously hope he’s getting paid for all these posts.
You mean Nvidia hardware is doing a good job of holding DX12 back.
AMD are seeing the benefits because their GPUs are not architecturally obsolete and support the necessary hardware features. Same reason why Vulkan sees much better improvements with AMD. This is coming from a current NV user BTW.
Even so, it’s still the quickest new DX version to be adopted by devs, even with you filthy cave man peasants running DOS on 486 PCs or whatever ;D
Are you calling my Commodore 64 obsolete? I object!
It’s got 64KB’s of RAM, don’t you know? 😛
Pfft 64K? Join the 640K Master Race.

I use that picture especially for Zatara and some others who say that after end of free period migration to Windows 10 will slowdown. One picture is better than thousand words 🙂
Finally finished my play through of Gears 1 UE on PC, I hope the same team involved on that is working on Gears 4. It started out rocky but they patched the heck out of it. I am guessing that Gears 4 should have similar performance as Gears 1 UE in which case a 970 or high should be good enough for 1080 60. I have 980s and was able to finish the game at 1440 aprox 85-90 fps on average I’m guessing
Did you try with one 980 to see how it perfoms on 1440p? I am also sure that my 970 g1 gamimg is more than enough for 1440p max settings i just want to be sure of it
Hi, to clarify it’s only utilizing 1 of my 980’s . As of right now UE games that are dx12 don’t work with sli. I at first thought this was a Win store (UWP) issue but apparently its just where the UE engine is currently at. I also have a Vive and in an excellent game called Raw Data running off UE4 the dev gave me a breakdown on why they couldn’t support sli and were waiting on an update of the main branch of the engine.
So to summarize the per I’m getting is with 980. I also need to specify that I’m ran with textures only set to high, as the max settings for texture was for 4k quality and needed more than 4gbs. But high textures (everything else max) in Gears UE looks amazing, I only like the series not love it and would call it out if I found any issues, Gears 1 UE is one of the best looking games on the market right now, I found myself just stopping to stare at the scenery, really amazing
Hi, and is your one GTX 980 or not? Does it run 1440p 60 fps max settings all the time with no framedrops even on big battles? Have you overclocked the card or not? Which gtx 980 do you have? Are 4k textures for 4k monitors only or ecen on ours 1440p monitors they will make the game look much better than high textures? When i had 1080p monitor 4k textures didnt make much of a difference compared to 1080p textures but since i got 1440p monitor 3 months ago i noticed that games with 4k textures like far cry primal rise of the tomb raider e.t.c now looks much better. However i am afraid that our 970 and 980’s will not be powerful enough to run the game with 4k textures even at 1440p. Please test it wirh 4k textures and then tell us how it looks and perfoms. My 970 is overclocked (+100 mhz core +
350 mhz memory) but i dont know if it will be stable in gears 4 because at that high overclock while in some games it working ok with no issues in some others ir crashes but it needs this high overclock in order to surpass a stock 980. If it crashes i will have to play the game at stock clocks
It’s an Evga gtx 980 SC edition so it came with a factory overclock, but not too high I think. I havn’t done any other over clocking to it.
Gpu-z tells me,
GP Clock: 1266 Boost 1367Mhz
Mem 1753 Mhz.
I don’t use vsync as I have a gsync monitor, I would say even at it’s most chaotic (multiple enemies, explosions, weather fx) I’ve seen it drop to 75 fps for a second or 2.
I think one of the issues (and do think they learned from it) is they really did build the game to run a 4k native if you set it to highest. If I run it at highest texture then I will run into drops, and a look at a monitoring log shows vram to be the culprit, like maybe dropping to 55 fps but vram is maxed. It’s a better looking and more demanding game than fc primal, but probably on the same level of Rise of the Tomb Raider, with the detriment being in RotTR I can implement sli for significant help, letting me maintain high 70’s low 80’s on max.
4K gaming with textures created to look best at native 4k is a memory beast, games as old as Shadow of Mordor will quickly max out Vram usage. I’ll probably upgrade to sli 1080 ti’s once they drop depending on vram it will come with. I am hoping 12GB’s per card as that be more than enough to run 4K and not run into mem bandwidth squelch. For right now though 1440 is good enough for me.
It’s an expensive proposition though, 4K gsync monitor that supports HDR and 2x 1080 ti’s jeez I don’t even want to think about how much it will run me haha
I am also trying to decide if i should get 1080 or wait till 2018 for Volata release and then get a 1170 or 1180 due to bad perfomance that pascal cards have in dx12. Also 4K HDR monitors dont exist yet but rumors said that they will be released in 2018. I wil buy one in 2020 because until then prices will have been dropped a lot and be more affordable. The 24” 1440p monitor that i have dellp2416d costs 290 euros now but when it was released one year and a half ago it was costing 390 euros. Same thing will happen with 4k monitors. A 4K monitor that now costs 600 euros might cost 400 euros in 3 or 4 years if not even less. 1440P is more than enough there is no big of a difference compared to 4k.
1080 here. If you have a 980ti just wait. If you are using a 980 970 the jump is gonna be big.
If you are on 1440p get a cheap 980ti
If you really want 4k like me, its not the time yet. Yes you can pull 45 and 50 fps with a single 1080 and no aa and dropping shadow quality.
But i REALLY recommend waiting for next amd gpu, or waiting for volta.
I have a gtx 1080 gainward golden sample and its the best graphic card a ever rocked with. If you really like silence, this is your card
100% usage and the fan is spinning at 1000 rpm. You CANT hear that.
No coil whine.
69C max temp
I bought 1440p monitor just 3 months ago(DELLP12416D 24” 1440P 60 HZ IPS) Compared to the 100 euros 21,5” 1080p LG22MP55 monitor that i had the improvement is huge. Games look much better now and evrything is till playble on max settings. Most games run at 45-50 fps and some on 60 fps like doom and just cause 3 for exampple. on GTX 970 G1 GAMING 4 GB. I can buy a 1080 right now if i want if i wanted i could have bought it on release date. Money is not the issue here but as i said the fact that all current nvidia cards runs bad in dx12 is what prevents me from buying a new card and wait until 2018. For 4k i am planning to buy a 4k monitor around 2020 if not later when their prices will be down. But when will they make 4k HDR monitors?
GoW: UE stutters like hell(Even the sound stutters at some points, lol) and i’m talking about the current condition of the game(With patches). I hope GoW 4 plays a lot better, otherwise they’ll get a new sh!tstorm.
Dude I’m sorry for you, what card are you running it on? I am just going by my own performance, which originally was around 55fps with tons of stutter but post patches etc has become completly smooth with an avg on 90fps. I’m playing at 1440 with settings on high very high. I run textures at high as I only have 4gb of Vram.
GTX970 max settings except(High textures cause of VRAM) at 1440P.
dam that sucks then, if you tried it lately and still getting any stutters. I actually just finished the campaign yesterday and deleted it (60gbs is huge) From what I played I’d say maybe Ryse,Rise of the Tomb Raider maybe Crysis 3 are the only games that look as good or better than gears 1 ue. I’m no defindant of MS store as Quantum Break has never run well for me, but gears at least was massivly improved. Maybe it’s something to do with how the 970’s have only 3.5 gbs usuable vram?
Anyway hope you have better luck, or getting a stronger card as it was a ton of fun
No worries, i have a GTX1070 now. Also, GTX970 has 3.5 + 0.5GB(Total 4GB of usable VRAM). And no, there are no stutters when it uses all the VRAM. Rainbow Six: Siege used ~4074MB of VRAM with the ultra-HD texture pack at 1440P and it was silky smooth.
“I am guessing that Gears 4 should have similar performance as Gears 1 UE”
Not possible. GOW4 use another engine:
Gears of War 1 Ultimate -> old Unreal Engine 3
Gears of War 4 -> custom version of Unreal Engine 4 (github fork of UE 4.12 with added DX12, HDR10, UWP)
While you are correct about the engine, Gears UE is Dx12 also. Just speaking in terms of fidelity Gears UE the texture quality looks as good as anything I’ve seen from 4.
Gears Ultimate ran on a recycled, modified Unreal Engine 3 port with a DX12 wrapper slapped around it because of Microsoft’s new DX12 policies, nothing else.
*Modified DX12, arguably.
Unreal 4 has had DX12 for a long time now (as of Unreal 4 Engine 4.4, from October 1, 2014 to be specific). If they’re really using a modified version of Unreal 4.12, then they most likely also have a modified Epic Games DX12 implementation.
Unless of course they implemented DX12 manually into an older version of Unreal 4, & then upgraded to 4.12 later, but that would require a lot of manual labour to get it in line with later versions of Epic’s Engine if they branched that far out, really, so, yeah, arguably, it’s a modified Epic Games DX12 implementation (a manual implementation of DX12 into Unreal 4 would require them to hack deep into the core Engine in order to do it properly, in order to avoid creating another crippling joke the likes of which Nixxes just released).
Also what @Tophe said about HDR.
P.S. LOL at partial HDR support. Nice. Real nice.
Please please PLEASE run well on release day..
No HDR, no buy.
U guys can complain all u want this game looks better Than all the gears games that was on the 360
Wow, what an amazing achievement.
What an epic feat of engineering!
Guys, guys, they made a game that looks better than all the X360 games that came before it!”
I mean, no, seriously – wow.
