Eidos Montreal’s David Anfossi: “We do not give up the narrative single-player games, stay tuned for news”

A couple of days ago, we informed you about EIDOS Montreal focusing on online gaming experiences. However, this does not mean that the team responsible for the latest Deus Ex and Tomb Raider games, will not develop any other single-player titles. As EIDOS Montreal’s head of studio, David Anfossi, unveiled, the team will keep creating such games.

In order to explain why EIDOS Montreal will now emphasize on online experiences, David Anfossi claimed that the team has to try new things to stimulate it.

David Anfossi concluded that he will have more news soon for those seeking action adventure games.

It will be interesting to see whether EIDOS Montreal’s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy games will embrace the studio’s new online direction. Moreover, it will be interesting to see what will happen with the new Tomb Raider game (that will be revealed next year), whether it will have a multiplayer mode and whether it will be plagued by microtransactions.

  1. Well I dont think anyone cares if you give up on single player games, even if they do people will move on indie story driven games or other developers

    1. Did you read the article? Can you see the tweet? Quite clearly people DO care. There are more replies to him saying exactly that. We want story driven games. Games have become interactive movies now, they draw you in far better than any film can, it’s what sets them apart from other media. If they take that away, they’re nothing more than mobile phone time-sinks.

          1. It’s really never been a problem, in fact I’ve purchased most of the games I’ve pirated at some point or another once Demo’s stopped being released.

        1. Piracy has been going on for as long as I can remember. Even back in the 80’s people were downloading cracked games from BBS’s.

It’s not stopped Publishers/Developers from making games available on PC because they make a lot of money from PC gamers.

Piracy is just not the big deal that you make it out to be.

    2. No thanks to the indie story driven games I do not want to play walking simulators.

I’m currently playing through The Evil Within 2 and it’s a masterpiece of story telling and gameplay.

          1. SOMA, Hyper Light Drifter, Transistor, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice are the first ones that come to mind.

          2. Soma is another walking sim if were honest. HLD not my kind of thing at all, Transistor like Bastion is an action rpg. Senua’s sacrifice is probably the only one on that list I would agree with you on.

          3. Torchlight 1 and 2, Grim Dawn, Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 are all indies that look and feel AAA, without the BS.

          4. All of those are also isometric. A lot of people that typically play AAA only aren’t into that. I personally loved Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2, but I cant stand Torchlioght or Grim Dawn. Not sure why..

  2. I want to believe him and I will even wait and see, but Square makes the decisions, not him. I will only buy full singleplayer games (co-op like Borderlands is okay as long as it can be played solo too).
