Electronic Arts has just rolled out a new update for its online distribution service, Origin. This update introduces an option via which PC gamers can finally limit their download speeds. This is a must-have option that should have been included in Origin from the get-go. So, better late than never I guess.
In addition, this update for Origin adds an FPS counter for all Origin games. Unfortunately, and as its name suggests, this counter only displays your framerate and nothing more. Still, it’s better than nothing, though we are pretty sure that most gamers – that want an FPS counter – are already using other third-party tools (such as MSI Afterburner) that work perfectly with all Origin games.
Last but not least, EA has introduced cross-game party invites. As such, players can invite their friends that are playing a different game in order to join them.
These new features are available on Origin right now!

It’s alright. Origin is slowly turning good.
I still think it won’t ever be as good as Steam because of its uninteresting game library.
And full mod support as well as semi decent sales, EA’s ones are quite laughable at times.
True
Nope, good for some s**t for some.
origin might be a good service
but the games on origin are pure $hit
At least it’s actually a usable service, unlike UPlay or UWP.
What’s wrong with UPlay?
As of recent Uplay actually works and has a couple of these feature presented here. I can play my games in offline mode too, a thing Origin sure as heck needs. Plus I like their club points system (you get points for certain achievements), and how you can use some of them to get discounts on a game purchase. Steam can actually take notes from this.
I don’t like Ubisoft as a company, but hey, credit were credit is due.
Welcome to 2015 EA =D.
Now add more games, fix your older ones (like SIm City), add mod support and frequent those sales a bit and I could end up using your client a lot more than maybe once a month.
Origin is still ahead of Uplay, so Ubisoft you got quite a ways to go.
Still preferable to Windows 10 Store though.
So is getting kicked in the head. What’s your point? 😀 😀 😀
which one?.
If it’s Uplay, I’d Rather use neither that nor WIn 10 store.
Okay, I’m playing Devil’s Advocate here, but what’s so bad about Uplay as of recent… besides Ubisoft of course. Last time I checked, I still can’t play in offline mode on Origin, while Uplay let’s me. Also, I like their club points system (you get them through achievements/game completion) and you can use them to get discounts on any game you like. I mean, that’s pretty awesome. I wish Steam or any other service would use this kind of system .
I know Ubisoft are some greedy scumbags, that I will not deny, but their service to my experience worked really well with no problems as of late. Which is more than I can say for UWP…
No Steamworks 🙁
Yeah, it’s a small thing, but I like achievements, etc. & U-BE-SOFT keeps those exclusive to its uPlay store.
Other than that, it’s also the principle of having to use two programs to access your game, if you bought the game in question on Steam, as the uPlay DRM continues to be mandatory, even almost 10 years later.
Yeah, I know, that’s annoying… As much as I like to have my games on Steam, if it requires to use their Uplay DRM, might as well get it directly via Uplay… Sacrilegious, I know and I’m going to get lynched for saying this…
On the bright side, Ubisoft games are usually cheaper on Uplay than their Steam counterparts, since I guess they have to make their store competitive somehow and for a cheapskate like me, so long as the games work, I really don’t have that much of a problem. I also mentioned that I genuinely like their club point system if only to get discounts and offline play works too.
Yeah, I would really like if Ubisoft games would put their games directly on Steam without requiring Uplay… but it is what it is. Origin is also getting better, though they still need that offline mode and they don’t offer the option to get their games on Steam at all, unlike Uplay or Battlenet.
“On the bright side, Ubisoft games are usually cheaper on Uplay than their Steam counterparts”
That, too, good point.
But yeah, f*cking EA & Origin…… Uff. Now I’ve got two Crysis games on Steam & one on Origin. Two Mass Effect games on Steam & one on Origin, one Dragon Age on Steam & one on Origin……
F*ck.
Once a month? Jesus, I barely touch them once a year 😛
Still gonna be on steam as always
can i have a 4k screen support for it too please?
still no backup and restore feature. they just do half assed works
Just put the games on Steam as well. Spent nothing on Origin, 1,555 games on Steam at the moment.
EA doesnt need steam. Their games sell just fine on Origin and they don’t have to give Valve 30%. Lets not be hypocrites. If Blizzard can have Battle net, EA can have origin.
we need competition, steam monopoly is worrisome sometime. gog is my favorite though.
I hope that the competition drives prices down quite fast and well enough, also mod support, streaming etc, all the kind of stuff that Steam has had going for a while now.
Competition should help improve things vastly within the next 2 years, hopefully not 10 years, it’s already taken origin this long so far so things don’t look all that promising.
So instead they also don’t have tor educe their prices and charge even more for season passes and they certainly don’t have to appeal to modders =D.
EA appears to be actually phasing out season passes entirely; expect free updates with the now familiar lootbox model to be their new standard.
Loot Boxes are showing up as the new goldmine these days for a myriad of MP based games these days, not what I would call a good sign.
Yeah, they finally realised how moronic Season Passes are for a Multiplayer game & thank f*ck for that.
Sales happen and other retailers sell origin games.
Not on Steam’s level for the majority of their titles, especially brand new ones.
Greenman, Humble, Amazon and more all sell Origin keys when they have big sales. I picked up the latest Mirrors Edge for $7 off amazon a few weeks ago. just look around.
I’m still waiting for that deep, deep Sims 4 sale…
$10 is what i paid. i believe gamestop had it when i bought it.
Scratch that it was Gamersgate. i swear there are too many awesome digital stores lol. i need a better way to track this stuff.
Origin did have game refunds 1st before steam. Can’t be 1st at everything hue hue hue
you guys cant play a game with out a fps counter…lmao.
Yeah we want to know in what fps our game running, unlike consoles where everyone knows that fps can’t get past 30
im to busy playing a game to worry about the fps.but enjoy you fps counter you cant live with out it..lmao.
I dont care abotu fps at all. When i bought my 1440p monitor one year ago and at that time i had Core i5 2500k 3,3ghZ 12 gb ddr3 1600 mhz gtx 970 g1 gaming i knew that it wouldnt run 60 fps max settings like it did on 1080p and that most games would run at 40+ fps. But i bought this 1440p monitor DELLP2416D because i wanted the best graphics possible and didnt care at all about if fps is 40 or 50 or 60. I just wanted the best graphics. That why in evry game when i started it just put evrythign maxed 1440p native or 4K DSR and then i start playing without checking fps. I just read only one time the becnrhmaks on gaming websites and that is.
You do know that your Xbox Wan Ex is getting an FPS counter in its front through an LED panel, right?
So, f*ck off with your FPS counter mockery, because obviously you little f*ckers want one just as bad as we do (or, at least Microsoft believes so), else you wouldn’t have convinced Microsh*ts to actually shell out the money for one, would you.
zatara how i have missed you let me count the ways…lol
#1 dont be jealous on the native 4k games on xbox one while you are still at 1080p.
#2 to busy playing the game to look at a fps counter..lmao.
#3 its a console not a pc thank gods…lol
#4 ms may want to turn the xbox in to a pc box but tha fan base wont tolerate that.
#5 there would be like 1% of xbox gamers that would use a fps counter…lol
– Native 4K? Oh, right, I forgot, you live in la-la land, where Microsoft sh*t rainbow unicorns, instead of lies, right?
– Yeah, sure. Like you won’t be sneaking glances at it, keep telling yourself that.
– Of course, plebeian be plebeian, after all.
– Correction: Microsoft wants to turn the PC into an Xbox, but we the Glorious Master Race won’t tolerate that.
– You’re assuming it actually has an off switch, nevermind an options menu.
wake up from denial land digital foundry has already confirmed native 4k/60fps ULTRA pc settings with room to spare for forza 7.
need i say more?..lmao.wake up.
A first-party title. Wow, shocking, Microsoft’s FIRST PARTY titles have 4K on the Scorpio…… Hm, let me see if that sounds familiar;
“Sony’s first-party titles will have native 4K on the Pro.”
Oh, that’s right……..
Needeth I sayeth moar? Lmao, wake up, shill.
It will be 4k low settigns or medum not pc ultra 4k. You need GTX 1070(a 400 euros card) a core i7 6700k or better(a 300 euros cpu) and 100 euros ram(like 16 gb 2800 mhz or better) so no xbox wont run 4k ultra settings of pc because with it;s 500 euro hardware that it has it dont have the power needed for that. But my ryzen 1700 16 gb ddr4 3200 mhz gtx 970 g1 gamign will run it 1440p maxed 60 fps and 4kDSR maxed close to 60 fps if not 60 fps. Also it willl not have 4k textures and 4k special efffects that the pc version will have so it will look way worse than pc version. Like mafia 3 that while iplayed it on 1440p max settings it looked like a 2005 game because even on max settings it has 512×512 textutes instead of 4k.
But i am playing 1440p since june 2016. he needs to upgrade as soon as possible! A pc gamer to play on 1080p in 2017? And he still has ancient cpu and ram while i upgraded cpu and ram 3 months ago and got monstr cpu ryzen 1700 and monster ram 16 gb ddr4 3200 mhz that destoys xboxx hardware. I kept my 970 but is still very good since it runs 1440p max settings and in some games even 4k 30 fps max settigns(but with DSR of coruse)
That’s cool but all these clients desperately need to introduce other set of features which Steam has had for a while now. Things like Big Picture mode for those who wanna play on the couch like myself (so I can access everything on the Origin client with ease, see notifications pop ups and the achievements that I unlock as I’m playing), as well as a Family Sharing service so people wouldn’t have to buy seperate copies or pirate them for their siblings or anyone else they share an accomodation with.
These features are for the niche crowd but that’s kinda the reason why I wouldn’t ever give up on Steam. They actually understand that people wanna be given many choices on how they wanna experience their games at any given time.
the problem is their client still suxs with lousy DRM. many times the client go haywire and refuse to start.
Yeah whatever. didn’t even notice this was missing. lol
It’s still consented spyware software tho
