EA has formally acquired Codemasters

Back in December we informed you about Codemasters being acquired by Electronic Arts. The acquisition is now formally completed for 1.2 billion dollars.

Codemasters is now officially a part of Electronic Arts. One of the most beloved publishers in the industry, and the inventors of the surprise mechanics, which every gamer adores.

According to EA’s executive vice president of strategic growth, Codemasters’ Studios will remain autonomous. “We will be treating the Codemasters’ studios as an independent group for the foreseeable future, giving them all the support they need to deliver their much-loved games and exploring all opportunities for growth as we go.”

Furthermore, the VP said that they saw further room for growth in the racing genre, which motivated the company to purchase Codemasters. “Our intent is to build on the success that Codemasters have generated, ensuring we help create a bright, brilliant and exciting future for racing fans, that’s populated by amazing games delivered into the hands of more players than ever before.”

Lastly, I’m wondering if Codemasters still own the license for Severance: Blade of Darkness. If they do, I would love to see a continuation, or even a remake. However, I do not see it happening any time soon, if ever.
