Among Giants has revealed its new indie game that is inspired by Shadow of the Colossus, Distortions. Distortions is described as a 3D game in third person, set in a surreal atmosphere, that promises to catch the player’s attention, and below you can find its first screenshots.
In Distortions, the player has to lead a girl through a journey across a vast and lonely world, in an attempt to find the answers for the uncertainties that surround her.
“The girl carries only a violin, which she must use in creative ways to protect herself. The instrument is all she has to defeat enemies, manipulate the environment and find lost music sheets and the pages of a journal, written by a mysterious figure that could prove useful to guide her.”
Distortions will be released in chapters, and is is influenced by games like Shadow of the Colossus and Silent Hill 2, and movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Once.
The team also focused on the game’s story as one of the main features, with a script that invites the player to travel alongside the main protagonist in a surprising narrative experience.
Thiago Girello, one of the creators and developers of the game, said:
“We did a lot of research in technology and created a number of concepts in order to make a game with a design that people would consider compelling. It was also mandatory to us to write a story that would inspire people to find out more about it inside the game world. It was hard to bring those concepts to the level we wanted, and we’re happy with the result we’re achieving.”
The first chapter of Distortions is planned for a Q1 2017 release, and here are the key features of the game:
- Compelling story about broken relationships; how far would someone go in search of a memory?
- A vast open world waiting to be explored. The player has the choice of how deep he wants to go.
- A dynamic system to play a violin. Shape the world with your music in real time.
- With your violin, fight or change the environment in order to elude strange masked creatures.
- Enter a journey to tame the masked, colossal monster.
- Two worlds that coexist. You can travel between them in real-time.
- Play music together with other characters.
Enjoy!

I like when they use the term inspired.
What the hell is that thing?
You say Shadow of the Colussus and I’m in. 🙂
I watch the trailer and I’m out. 🙁
Shadow of Colossus was an overrated game, but as an experience it was great. Same can be said about Journey. I would much rather watch someone else play these kinds of artsy games than play them myself.
Everything is overrated.
Except The Witcher 3.
I’VE SAID EVERYTHING! DID I F*CKING STUTTER?
The game is about relationships, so I guess that the “Shadow of the Colossus” inspiration comes from the main motivation of the caracheter in that game and how about he couldn’t let his girl rest in peace and had to kill all those beautiful creatures… I GUESS
Is that… Unity? I think that’s Unity3D. And where is the shadow of the colossus inspiration?
Looks like an amateur work.
Interesting anime style game. Who knows, maybe the story will turn out to be interesting.
Misleading title…altough its well explained in the news contents…
But we know that majority wont even read the first paragraph…haha
