Dino Crisis 1 & 2 are now available on GOG with 4K support, improved graphics and better DirectX game renderer

Now here is a pleasant surprise. Capcom and GOG have released DRM-free enhanced editions of the first two Dino Crisis games on PC. Yep, Dino Crisis is back and fully playable on modern-day PC systems.

The GOG versions come with compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11. They also have an improved DirectX game renderer. Not only that, but you can expect improved geometry calculation, alpha transparency, more stable transformation and texturing. Plus, there is native support for 4K resolutions.

GOG also claims that these versions do not have any issues with animations, video, and music playback, or with saving. Not only that both of these games come with all the original game modes. For instance, DC1 has Original, Arrange, and Operation Wipe Out modes. On the other hand, DC2 has Easy difficulty, Dino Colosseum and Dino Duel.

In theory, these re-releases should be compatible with the mods we’ve shared for them. So, you should be able to use this AI-enhanced Texture Pack for the first game. Then we have the Preview Version of the Rex-HD Project for Dino Crisis 2. You might also be able to use the Rebirth Remaster Mod for DC1 and DC2. Rebirth brings a ton of visual improvements to these games.

It will be interesting to see whether these re-releases will spark any further interest in the franchise. DC fans have been asking for a remake for a long time. So, will Capcom finally give dino lovers what they want?

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Dino Crisis 2D backgrounds look extremely blurry at higher resolutions, and mods with upacaled textures make them look like oil paint. This is absolutely the worst way to play the game.

I prefer PSX versions on SD CRT, because on CRT even 240p backgrounds look sharp and detailed. Also, the lower resolution hides imperfections (low poly models, low quality textures, LOD transitions). The PSX version emulated in Retroarch with CRT HDR shaders also looks amazing.

      1. I still have CRT TV for my retro consoles, but even if you dont own CRT you can use CRT HDR shaders in retroarch to get even better results.

          1. i play silent hill 1 on 4k using 60fps cheat and retroarch swanstation cpu overclock to 400% to maintain 60fps. The game looks amazing if u add CRT shader on top of it, New pixie CRT shader in Duckstation is amazing CRT filter

  2. I just checked.
The graphic improvements are minimal, and you can get even better results using the emulators Duckstation or Flycast + HD texture pack.🤔
(Duckstation has the PGXP geometry correction, like these new GOG versions… Not sure about Flycast though)

And at least, you can quicksave anywhere, which is important in these unfair and frustrating games.
    Emulation wins, as always.

You can check how powerful PGXP is in the video "Dino Crisis – PS5 vs. PC Emulator (Duckstation) | Side by Side" on Youtube.

    1. Even GOG has dreams of this game and its sequel, sadly it's one hell of an IP mess between Activision, WB and Fox, Nightdive tried their luck and failed.
Fortunately there's an Install & Play abandonware package available and an unofficial patch to make it playable on modern systems without any major issues

  3. Man the Rebirth mods were amazing, so much work put into them.
I replayed all RE and Dino Crisis games with it and Apple really did a great job fixing these late PC ports by SourceNext.

  4. Off-topic but, uhh… did @StephanieBianchi:disqus block me?

I don't remember having an argument with her, nor downvoting her comments either. Maybe it was a mistake on her side? Can someone tell her to unblock me?

  5. Just tried the 1st game using GOG version… omg this looks terrible at 4k and the HD mod does not work with this version.. but damnit now I want to replay this since I haven't played it since I was a kid. Off to get the PSX rom and use CRT filters I guess.

  6. Finally, It's nice to see them officially releasing this but these games still have lot issues that are already fixed in classic rebirth version so that is still superior. For HD textures, take a look at updated rex-hd project here. He also showed updated characters in one of his videos. https://youtu.be/Mi9zpUzcsyA
